About this house rental
If you are looking for an experience that reflects the Maine of your childhood…a simpler time, with no cruise ships full of tourists, no bumper to bumper traffic, no tourist trap restaurants or gift shops full of Made in China souvenirs then read on….
This is your opportunity to escape climate change, when you come to Lubec it will be 75 degrees while the rest of the country is 100 degrees. Clean, salty, crisp ocean breeze keeps Lubec temperate and naturally comfortable.
Lubec's night sky explodes with the Milky Way, 25 million light years away in a sky literally filled with millions of stars on a typical clear night.
Boot Cove is located near the idyllic town of Lubec, Maine…the land that time forgot and the easternmost town in the United States. A small fishing village perched on the Atlantic Ocean in the northern reaches of Maine…Lubec is a tiny hamlet of colorful historic cottages settled on a hill overlooking the Bay of Fundy and the wild Atlantic beyond. A tiny main street provides all the basic necessities…a coffee shop, several restaurants, a couple of classic Maine seafood shacks, and a quaint grocery store. Lubec was recently rated as one of America’s top 10 beach towns by Town and Leisure. You can catch a passenger ferry at the town pier to visit Eastport for a fun day trip or you can opt for a fascinating day of whale watching…to experience the abundance of whales, multitudes of birds, seals and dolphin that populate the native waters. Or you can take the short bridge from Lubec to Canada and explore the sites of Campobello Island, including the summer home of FDR. Naturalists from all over the world consider this part of Maine the most untouched in the Northeast. And your home sits in one of the most beautiful stretches of the Atlantic coast in Washington County.
Boot Cove is 2.5 hours from Bangor Airport and 2 hours from Bar Harbor Airport. Private flights can be arranged at private airports in Easport (45 minutes from Boot Cove) or Machias (40 minutes from Boot Cove)
Just a 12 minute (beautiful) drive from town, Boot Cove is perched on a dramatic 46-acre bluff overlooking the astounding vastness of the Atlantic Ocean. This extremely private compound is surrounded on all sides by miles of wildlife preserves that populate the property with rare bird species, an abundance of eagles, hawks, owl, white tailed deer, adorable fisher, lynx, wild turkey, pheasant…and if you are lucky…the enigmatic moose.
You enter the property at magnificent stone outcropping with gate and travel down a 1/2 mile winding drive to the main house which is perched 100 feet above the ocean with views across the sea. A wrap around deck leads you to world class views uncluttered by ANY other houses. In fact your closest neighbor is invisible…and a half of a mile away. With an abundance of comfortable luxury outdoor seating you will be mesmerized by the constant influx of whales, seal, eagles and cormorants from their surrounding habitats. This is the place to contemplate life, read a book, rest and be at peace.
SPOILER ALERT!!! The open concept kitchen is all new and beautiful...and the kitchen windows overlook the OCEAN!! Watch seals and bald eagles from the kitchen while you are creating wonderful meals with local ingredients!!!
Your home was built in 2014 in the style of a classic down east Maine cape. Cedar shingles and red mullioned windows hint at the classic luxury within. Entry through the front door basically takes your breath away as your eyes are drawn immediately to the spectacular ocean views from every point in the open concept living/dining room and kitchen. Super comfortable furnishings include an extra deep wrap around couch and modern swivel chairs covered in luxury Italian velvets and Belgian linens in colors that reflect the ocean and the sky. To stay connected to the world…if you choose, the house is outfitted with Wi-Fi and DirecTV, with large flat screens in 2 of the 4 bedrooms and a media room with an 86" TV. Beautiful soft colors of blue, grey and cream with luxury wool carpets and fine linens make this house a serene respite.
The first floor master suite has direct access to the ocean front deck and views of the ever changing ocean from every window. The 20x30 foot room is spacious and peaceful. An ensuite bathroom has a claw foot tub with soaking views of the ocean and a modest shower with a walk in closet.
Climb up the spectacular cherry staircase to the second floor and you will find 2 additional master bedrooms and one guest room…all with ocean views.
The North bedroom is 20x20 with a French antique armoire, Belgian linen upholstered seating and a luxury king bed. The ensuite bathroom has a luxury walk in shower and walk in closet.
The massive South bedroom is 20x40 with a comfortable seating area, a large flat screen TV and super comfortable king bed. This room is as big as an entire apartment in NYC and the vistas from the windows rival Big Sur, Monterey, and any other rocky coast in the world.
A beautiful, well-appointed bathroom with tub is shared by the South bedroom and the adjacent guest bedroom.
The guest bedroom is the most modestly sized bedroom in the house with a comfortable queen bed and a luxury Rubelli clad chaise lounge.
The media room on the lower level is a naturally cooled media cave with cloud sofa seating and Clarence House swivel rockers to enjoy the 86" flat screen.
A 5 minute hike away, the Guest House, which sleeps 7, is perched on a small hill with a lovely wooded path leading to the main house. As the original farmhouse structure to the property, this simple and private home has been updated with fresh finishes and a tasteful mixture of modern comforts and French antiques with touches of Maine. It has 2 beautiful, new bathrooms with marble vanities, a crisp new shower and a luxury soaking tub. The Guest House has a separate driveway and enjoys a roof top deck with ocean views.
Once exploring your new house is done you have an abundance of nature to immerse your senses. Over 2 miles of PRIVATE hiking trails meander through the property. Bring your hiking shoes!!! Bring a picnic!!! (but we BEG you please leave this pristine paradise as you found it!!!) All trails lead to the spectacular Boot Cove shoreline and cliffs. They are unspeakably beautiful and in some spots treacherous… so please exercise extreme caution in these areas. Children must be supervised at all times and adults need to be super careful too. This is wildest that the bold coast of Maine has to offer.
Off property within a 5-10 minute ride, you will find a multitude of nature preserves with hiking trails unlike any other spot in the world. Hiking, kayaking, biking, whale watching, birding tours, and Puffin habitats are just a few of the options of activities in and around Lubec.
Your culinary experience can be in the home’s gourmet kitchen or outside on the gas grill with local ingredients from the Saturday farmers market, the roadside stands and the very charming Lyons IGA in the village of Lubec. Your favorite will undoubtedly be the Lobster Pound in Cutler and Lubec where the lobsters are caught literally in the waters off Boot Cove. A great option is to engage one of our favorite local chefs…who will tailor a wonderful and stress free Maine feast. She specializes in local cuisine with ONLY local ingredients. She can easily orchestrate your outdoor lobster feast!! All you have to do is show up with your glass of wine and every detail is done (We ask that all lobster/clam bakes etc. are held outside on the deck adjacent to the kitchen. This area is specially created for these messy and joyful celebrations.).
Concierge services such as grocery shopping, more frequent house-keeping, airport transfers can be arranged on an as available basis (sufficient advance notice required).
Remember those hiking boots!!! Bring your binoculars, your telescope, your camera, your night sky app, your drone!!!!! Bring your fishing poles!...fish off of the town breakwater, Lake Gardner, a multitude of park areas or right off of our private waters.
Bring your bikes!!!! The roads are safe, plentiful and incredibly scenic. Bring your golf clubs!!! Nine hole waterfront golf course on Campobello Island or travel a bit to Saint Andrews for an elite and beautiful golf experience.
Perfect retreat for girls trips, boys trips, business strategy meetings, family reunions, eco-tourism, bicycling enthusiasts. Kayakers/canoers, hikers, intimate weddings, special family gatherings, all on your own private nature reserve (for larger gatherings - written permission is required and additional fees may apply).
Al fresco lobster dinners are an absolute must during your stay…we have created a beautiful outdoor spot for 8-10 on the deck overlooking the ocean. For a larger group…please inquire. We ask that all seafood feasts remain strictly outdoors. Additionally, all breaking down of seafood including fresh caught fish remain outdoors.
**Families with children must be aware that this property is located in a wilderness area surrounded by ocean and cliffs which can be treacherous. The private trails are dangerous and unsuitable for children. The home is surrounded by a deck which allows unencumbered ocean views and few railings.

Everything about this property was outstanding. A private call from the owner as we expressed interest in renting was a wonderful personal touch. The property is even better than the photos. Kitchen is fully stocked and the pantry was full which was very helpful. The Gardner
was there briefly on a day and pointed out all the vegetables that were ready to enjoy. We hiked the trails, swam in the chilly waters of the Atlantic and were a phone call away from the manager of the property if we needed anything. All bedrooms mattresses and linens were complete luxury as were the bathrooms. We enjoyed the fire circle in the evenings Only drawback going home!

If you're seeking the ultimate coastal getaway that combines luxury, tranquility, and breathtaking views, look no further. This property offered an unparalleled experience for our family last October.
This property is in a perfect location - perfect for family gatherings with something for everyone. The proximity to the ocean was incredible with several resident otters and dolphins to enjoy. This property was also nearby some of the most beautiful hikes we've ever done!
The accommodation itself surpassed all expectations. Impeccably designed and tastefully furnished, every detail exuded elegance and comfort. The deck was the perfect spot for a lobster boil or to unwind with a glass of wine while soaking in the panoramic ocean views.

Three generations of our family gathered for the first time in 3 years in this thoughtfully designed and beautifully constructed residence. The view features thousands of flowering lupines, birch and pine cascading down towards a long-range view of the water, punctuated with the colossal rocks of the coast. The scenery changed every day with the weather and the phase of the moon, and the lack of light pollution meant the dome of stars was brilliant. We had a campfire in the firepit surrounded by Adirondack chairs, accompanied by family musicians on their guitars, played Kubb on the lawn surrounded by fearless bright-eyed rabbits, picked wild raspberries, cloudberries and blueberries in the abundant woods surrounding. The house is full of views and light, with elegant finishes and wonderful patina in the architectural salvage used for the wide floorboards and interior doors. Beds are very comfortable with excellent linens, and the bathrooms and kitchen were spotless and up-to-date. The house functions extremely well for a group of 10 (with 3 in the guest house, which is also lovely). We were able to dine together, cook together, play games together, but yet still found all the privacy we needed.
The house is larger than it looks in the photos, and has many lovely small corners for reading or noodling on the guitar.
Outside the house the nature trails are full of gorgeous panoramas and hidden coves, spongy moss and fragrant balsam. We took a whale watch from Eastport and saw Minkes and porpoises, harbor seals and blad eagles. Seals regularly swam in front of the house, too.
Sarah Rose, the property manager, was kind and responsive and sent us loads of information beforehand.
We would absolutely love to come here again.

Our family - 3 generations - stayed at this spectacular home with fantastic gardens, amazing vistas, some rugged terrain, and beautiful trails. There were endless opportunities for all ages to enjoy themselves both inside and outside. Everyone we encountered, from the owner to onsite personnel was accommadating, kind and so helpful. We could not have asked for more. Thank you all, for creating such a terrific getaway for others to enjoy.

Gorgeous and peaceful
This is a beautiful, quiet place for people looking to get away from it all. Watching the ocean, spotting bald eagles, exploring all the hikes, reading in one of the many nooks around the property. We can't wait to return.
