About this house rental
Avoid the trek into Cheddar from the lodge parks! Highcroft Cottage is a luxury 2 bed cottage in the very centre of Cheddar with the most spectacular views of Cheddar Gorge from its own private balcony. Check out the photos! Located at the foot of Cheddar Gorge (but in an elevated position to take full advantage of the views) this pretty, stone built cottage could not be better situated to explore all that Cheddar (and the rest of Somerset) has to offer. It also has free Wifi.
Weekly bookings are available during the peak summer season of June - September inclusive (changeover day is Saturday) and short breaks may also be available (outside of the peak summer season) for a minimum of 3 x nights. Please enquire before booking for short breaks and also for prices at Christmas.
If you want to, you can just park up and leave the car as all of the cafes, tearooms, pubs and shops of Cheddar (as well as the Gorge itself) are within a few minutes walk. Axbridge village, with its pretty medieval square, is within walking distance too. (You will need a car or other form of private transport to travel further afield)
Bath, Bristol, Glastonbury and Taunton are just a short drive away, as is the picturesque Chew Valley and its surrounding villages.
Perfect for ramblers, cyclists, fishing enthusiasts (with Chew Valley lake and Blagdon lake nearby), bird watchers, rock climbers or photographers (the ever-changing scenery is fascinating) - or just relaxing in total comfort - Highcroft has all you need for a wonderful break from the norm. And do feel free to bring man's best friend! Up to 2 well-behaved dogs are welcome; with country walks starting just a stone's throw from the door, your doggy companions will be in heaven.
Sleeping 4 people, Highcroft will suit couples, small families (children must be over 12 years old, please) or a group of friends (of course, solo holidaymakers are very welcome too!) Please note however that, because of its elevated position, Highcroft is not suitable for those with limited mobility.
Downstairs, this lovely property has a modern sitting room (with comfortable sofa bed), a bright kitchen diner, an understairs storage cupboard and a cloakroom (toilet and hand-basin). Upstairs you will find 1 x double bedroom, 1 x single bedroom and a shower room. There is plenty of cupboard space to store your clothes and belongings.
Both the kitchen and the sitting room have french doors opening out onto the decked balcony where those stunning views over Cheddar Gorge will become apparent - there really is no better place to watch the sun popping up over the Mendips, first thing in the morning.
Highcroft also has its own private, enclosed, patio garden with waterfall and small pond - quite the nicest spot for a lazy lunch or to sit with a glass of wine (or three!) in the evenings.
Parking for one car is available on the owner's drive with on-street parking available a short walk away. The cottage has its own private pedestrian access.

The property has a lounge and kitchen dinner, two bedrooms, downstairs toilet and upstairs bathroom. Very well equipped. There is a lovely veranda to sit on and two other areas to sit in. There is carparking. It is very central with lovely views of Cheddar Gorge. The hosts were great and very helpful. We hired the cottage so we could attend our daughters wedding and be around to be with family. I would highly recommend.

Cottage as described. Owners helpful. Well equipped and very comfortable base to explore the area. Fab views over Cheddar. Would definitely recommend.

Balcony was a big plus. Morning coffee and breakfast overlooking the perfumed garden, with wider views into Cheddar Gorge. There are multiple walks within easy reach, ranging from 3.5 to 9 miles round trip. Cheddar itself boasts multiple good pubs, restaurants and takeaways. We hardly needed the car all week which is what we hoped when booking.
Evening sun floods the lower terrace, situated next to an ornamental waterfall and pond. Ideal for eating evening meals or just reading.
Helen was extremely helpful, with a good knowledge of local walks. Her welcome package provided us with breakfast and snacks for most of the week! Very generous. I have already recommended this venue to friends.

Beautifully decorated, comfortable, cosy, well equipped cottage with a little decking round it giving Beautiful views. Kitchen had all items we needed to cook & eat. Great to have complimentary tea & coffee, bread, crumpets, butter, jam, biscuits, OJ, & milk. Garden steps steep but nice to have free range of garden & furniture & plenty of parking space. Pretty pond, but had to keep dogs on lead to avoid accident (they aren't used to ponds). Loads of room for 2 people & 2 small dogs. Good to have throws for sofa for dogs. Comfy beds & extra blankets, fluffy towels. Radiators heated up quickly when chilly at night/ in morning (October). Easy access through side gate to middle of village with pubs, gift shops & cafes (2 min walk) & gorge caves/walks just 2 minutes further. Friendly hosts who introduced themselves & seemed very approachable for any advice on area. Would definitely stay again if anywhere near area.

A very clean property with everything you need for both humans and dogs! The owners live on site but gave us complete privacy.
The location is a couple of minutes walk from Cheddar’s famous Gorge, Caves, and tourist attractions, and about 10 minutes walk from local supermarket and shopping.
There are some lovely dog walks right on the doorstep - be prepared to walk up hills though, the fantastic views are worth it!
We’ve had a wonderful week just walking our spaniels up the hills and relaxing on the veranda admiring the view of the Gorge.
We will be back!

Very attractive accommodation
We totally agree with all the five-star reviews. Charming cottage and thoughtfully equipped with everything you could possibly need. We received a very warm welcome from Helen and Andy who really were the perfect hosts in that they were on hand for any queries, but also respected our privacy. We were delighted to find the kitchen stocked with essential items on arrival after a long day’s travel by train. We spent many relaxing hours on the terrace in the evening enjoying the view of the Gorge. During the day we explored the local walking/hiking trails. All the information for the area is provided in the accommodation as well as for the accommodation itself. And after a day’s rambling over the hills the very comfortable bed was bliss!

Nothing to fault. Very friendly yet discrete hosts, pretty gardens, and cosy, really interesting accommodation with super walking from the door. It was not just “dogs accepted” but “dogs really welcome”. Would definitely book again. Loved it. .

We selected the cottage for its location. It was better than described with a great view of the Gorge from the veranda. Owners sent directions, let us know that the cottage was ready and that the driveway gates were open.
The cottage was as per photos, clean, well furnished and a welcome food hamper waiting for us. There were little things like cling film, wine cooler, proper chef’s knives etc that made it that little bit special.
The owners were friendly, helpful without being intrusive. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back.

Returning to stay here and I'm sure we will return again. It is such a beautiful property. The photos and description doesn't do it justice. The location is in the centre of Cheddar so you can walk everywhere however you feel like you are staying in the middle of nowhere as it is so peaceful and quiet. Would highly recommend staying here. Andrew and Helen are the perfect hosts and couldn't ask for more.

A special kind of place!
This trip was so special. I stayed a few days on my own and then I was joined by my daughter and her cockapoo Nessie. The beauty of the cottage is that although set right in the middle of Cheddar you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. I didn’t use my car the whole time I was there. The view up the gorge from the balcony is simply stunning and my daughter and I enjoyed a glass of wine whilst playing backgammon long into the night, we could have been anywhere. Andy and Helen, the hosts were incredible and I have been to a few places and they were truly lovely and went above and beyond to tell you about the local area and even leaving a package on the balcony with croissants and jam. They live next door and are on hand for anything you need. However did not impose. I can’t put into words how great this place is especially if you are looking for somewhere to escape and you won’t be disappointed. We will certainly be going back soon.
