About this house rental
a modern, casual, open plan home on a river - nature preserve across the river, nature preserve to the south as well. enjoy a dock, warmer than open ocean river, a six foot tide, herons, ospreys and maybe a sturgeon. house has a big screened porch for sunset evenings. nearby are Reid and Popham Beach State Parks with their sandy beaches and Five Islands with its dockside lobster shack. there is a main house with LR, Kitchen, DR, screened porch, woodstove, MBR and Guestroom - across a deck is the guesthouse and garage with a screened second story porch (a sleeping porch for overflow guests) and two more guest bedrooms. we have a dock about a hundred yard walk through the woods. we use the dock for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, sitting around. if you paddle acrss the river their is a picnic island with rocks to jump off at high tide.
new fiber optic internet service!! (so new I have not used it myself yet - I will post speeds as soon as I know them but expect fast!)
my sister and i designed the house and forced the builders to hire us to build it as well. we designed it for comfortable but casual living, bare feet, big meals, corners to read in or play games. the house is on Georgetown Island at the end of a mile long dirt road and is situated right on the Back River.
within ten minute drives are Reid Sate Park - beautiful mile long beach with rocks and waves and a lagoon for young children. at the end of one of their beaches is a tidal river that makes for great floating. a few minutes beyond that is Five Islands Lobster for a picture perfect (stomach perfect) lobster on a working dock.
Freeport for shopping is 25 mins away. The Maine Maritime Museum is located in Bath and is a great rainy or sunny day activity.

Great place - room for many more than the three of us. Strongly recommended.

We had the best time at this unique and lovely property! The main house and bunk house provided plenty of space and the hosts had everything you could need to have a fun time playing on the water, cook full meals, and enjoy the beautiful views of the river. They also provided a State Park Pass that allowed us to drive just 10 minutes to Reid State Park to hit the beach when the tide was low, then return to the property to paddle board, kayak, fish and swim when the tide was a bit higher. We enjoyed going to Boothbay on the one rainy day we had. We also did a few hikes in the area, we highly recommend the Morse Mountain to Seawall Beach hike, only a 40 minute drive and totally worth it for the quintessential Maine views! Bug spray is a necessity, but park of summer in the Maine woods. Our family highly recommenda staying here!

This property was nestled away in the woods away from it all but yet a short drive to anything youd want to explore. Serenity and privacy. Home was fully equipped with all the necessary items and then some you might not even think about. It far exceeded our expectations!! Use of state park pass was an added bonus!! We brought our puppo along and she had the time of her life exploring the grounds and enjoying a swim!! Thanks for sharing your home with us, most relaxing vacation ever!!

House was as advertised. Nice place with an awesome living room and screened in porch. Bunk house was fine and worked out well. The property was well kept.
The rain and mosquitoes were too much but nothing anyone could do about that. The fact that we did not hit the tides well was definetly a minus. Mud flats did not make for great fishing or swimming. The only days that would have worked it poured.
The nearby beaches were very nice on ghe two days of sunshine we had. Oyster farm across the road was awesome.

The road to get there was kind of bumpy because it is a dirt road. Once you get there though the house is right on the water. If we had better weather we would have went out in the boats. It has a nice screen porch you can sit on that overlooks the water.
Overall, we thought this house was really nice.

A wonderful family vacation spot! First time staying in this spacious, handsome, comfortable, and perfectly equipped home, while renewing our 28-year Maine coast tradition.
The home was absolutely as clean as we needed (some visitors may be slightly more picky); the wooded property is more beautiful than we anticipated; access to the dock is flat, clear, and quick. The availability of various water craft is a tremendous feature... and we only used the human-powered ones! We all loved exploring Back River--upstream and down, into the saltmarsh and across to the private picnic isthmus and the neighboring bay, filled with Snowy Egrets.
Bedrooms and baths are all generously sized; beds (as well as linents and towles) are comfortable; plentiful windows welcome beautiful light and views; pure Maine!
At the end of a warm, dry summer, the mosquitos were lighter (or their bites less long-lasting) than we expected, though multiple daily sprays helped, too.
The only drawback to the location is the very hilly 1 mile drive on a dirt/gravel road off of the main road. Easy enough to load up the car for the quick trip to the ever fascinating Reid State Park, the glorious views at Five Islands (and next spring's return of Five Islands Lobster Co.), and Eros Oysters, the new farm on the Robinhood Cove. Access to Bath is easy, and always worth a visit. And at 45 min. away, the Coastal Maine Botanical Garden is perfect for a non-beach day; it's truly of Maine's premier special attractions!
Our family looks forward to returning and making this tidal riverfront home a regular part of our family's most cherished tradition.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home, your special piece of Maine with us.

I hesitate to write this review...because everyone will want to stay at this awesome property! This rental is spacious, comfortable and a true Maine camp. This house was designed to be enjoyed. Situated in the woods, it is peaceful, natural and relaxing. The water view of the river is captivating and we never get tired of watching nature unfold right outside the screened-in porch. The kitchen is well stocked for any cooking adventures you might have in mind and the beds are comfortable. You are in the deep woods, so do plan accordingly for mosquitos and other bugs. This is our second visit to this lovely property, and we can't wait to return.

the house was fantastic and the location was really beautiful. The house was very well equipped and my whole group had a great time.... Reid State Park (a few miles away... and free pass with the house) is a spectacular park - we caught some very nice mackerel from the rocks ....

This is a beautiful open home with modern yet rustic feel with lots of windows viewing the Back River filtered through pine and birch trees. Docks and boats are available to enjoy though during our stay we chose to paint the surrounding scenery instead. The pictures don’t do it justice. We are 90% of our meals in the house and enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzle, and critiques of our daily paintings. We would love to come back.

Lovely property and location in mid-coast Maine
Our family had a lovely time in Georgetown and environs. The house is lovely - great space for our group of two parents, our adult children, their partners, and a couple family friends who joined for short stays. We enjoyed the beautiful setting, delightful sunsets, nearby conservation areas and state parks for hikes and beaches, and coastal communities (Bath, Brunswick, Phippsburg, Boothbay, etc.) to explore. Property is spacious, well-equipped and thoughtfully designed.

Wonderful Place on the Water
If you want an iconic Maine vacation stay here. You will have the benefit of a wonderful house with interesting architecture. The split between the main and guest house allows 2 groups space and privacy. The location on the tidal water is beautiful and very private and you have access to a dock to access the water. Hope our travels bring us here again.

Comfy family house on tidal river
We had a wonderful time at this Georgetown house! The house is very well stocked with kitchen staples, cookware, towels, books, puzzles, beach toys, etc. We had a couple days with no breeze so the mosquitoes and greenies enjoyed feasting on us but we used the bug spray and/or retreated to the screened porch. We took some day trips to the botanical gardens, railway village, Reid State Park and Five Islands Lobster Co. We also explored some local trails, played in the mud and canoed up the Back River. Very quiet and relaxing spot. Thanks for a lovely time!

It was perfect!
We were lucky to stay here for four whole weeks in September. The house is lovely. It has all the amenities we needed: nice kitchen full of cookware and utensils; linens, bedding, blankets, and towels; even small toys for our youngest visitors.
The dock was stocked with a paddle board, several kayaks, a canoe, two row boats, and a motor boat. Who could ask for more? At high tide our tallest kids (5’ 10”) could swim without touching bottom at the dock and at low tide the deep (DEEP!) mud was fantastic to play in!
The setting is lovely and intimate. The house is toward the end of a long, dirt road with few neighbors. It’s quite

A perfect retreat into nature away from the craziness and business of day to day life!
We had an amazing time at this house. The house is very thoughtfully sited allowing visitors to see the beauty all around them at every turn. The house itself is wonderful. We loved the main room and the stonewall. We loved the large table in the common room to draw, journal and play games on. Outside we enjoyed all that the property had to offer. We spent a great deal of our time just hanging out on the dock. We fished, kayaked, canoed and paddled around everyday. Our kids played in the tidal mud daily enjoying all that it had to offer in terms of letting their inner wild out. We enjoyed visits from seals and watching a bald eagle fly overhead daily. This is a truly magical and special place. We enjoyed every minute of our time at this beautiful oasis! We miss it! As for the owner he was great at getting back to us when we had questions. I hope that we can visit again it is exactly what we needed as a family! Many thanks!

Perfect Maine experience
Great atmosphere in this home; host was perfect ..quick to respond and completely unobtrusive; located on the river, close to nature and tidal flows, private dock for paddle sports and swimming; the state park with great beach and lagoon for kids is quite close, as is the classic lobster place. Treat it with care, it is a special place.

Beautiful spot
The house is lovely and unique, and the location is right on the water, very secluded and quiet. Definitely bring your bug spray. The water is warm for Maine, but there isn't any at low tide, so plan your days around the tides.
