Another great week at Back River Cottages! Thank you!

This was both a great base for exploring the Midcoast region and a place for relaxing on rainy days. We would certainly stay here or at one of the affiliated properties in the future - this cottage is not accessible to guests with mobility issues.

Our family loved spending time at this beaucolic property, and found so much to do on - and nearby -Georgetown island. Great intro to Maine for us first-timers from California.

We had such a great stay at Sebago. Plenty of room for a family of three and dog to spread. The screen porch was such a respite during rainy days and hot days (we had both and not much in between). Great breezes too. Close to everything and a perfect home base. Also an easy on/off Route 1, which is key. And you definitely get the family-owned vibe of the entire peninsula, which was unique for our other stays in the area. Katie was great to work with. Very responsive. We already have next summer on the books!

This was our second time at this location. We loved it. It’s close to great food, nature, and the wonderful town of Bath. Highly recommended!

We stayed at this lovely cottage and were very pleased with the accommodations! This area is insanely beautiful. The screened porch is world class. We enjoyed the pass for Reid State Park. It was a great place to relax and enjoy the island!

We were able to easily find in the beginning and easy to access the main roads for other events.
Rooms are spacious, clean and all amenities are included. (Even laundry detergent!) The porch is a beautiful dream spot! We had most of our meals out there and my husband and I enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets while our boys were sleeping or enjoying device time. FYI This is a natural area and the mosquitoes are plentiful on the road and path. The house is raised so the deck, screened in porch and the campfire area were mosquitoe free. There is also plenty of hot water; We took 4 quick showers after a beach day and nobody had cold water. The restaurants in Brunswick are incredible! Also, the 5 Island Lobster restaurant is awesome- arrive early, they run out of items. Great place to begin your day in and end in.

Great Location, Needs Some Updates
The house is in a great location with a beautiful view. It was very clean upon arrival and easy to access.
We arrived in the evening, went to make a quick dinner for the kids and discovered no grill tools. There was also no cooking essentials like a sheet pan (for oven fries), a vegetable peeler, etc. Listing mentions stocked kitchen with pantry items (none, not even oil) so this threw a curve ball. By the time we got around to making the master bed (beds aren’t made upon arrival) we discovered the box spring was cracked in half and we couldn’t sleep on it. Spent the first night on the floor.
The property manager, Katie, was very kind and responsive. They fixed the bed by the following afternoon and brought over the missing kitchen items we mentioned. I will say, I was surprised after such a rough first night that the owners never reached out to apologize.
We found throughout the week that the kitchen is very lacking in essentials if you are planning to make a meal there vs dining out. They also said they provided paper towels and tp, but there was only one small roll of paper towels so we had to go out and purchase that also. Also no kitchen counter spray, etc.
The fridge had a sign saying you shouldn’t drink the water, and to use the jugs in the fridge to get you started. This was inconvenient because we didn’t know ahead of time to bring our own drinking water. We found out later the water was now drinkable thanks to a new well and to NOT drink from the jugs.
The porch is beautiful, but the chairs at the table on the porch were plastic stackable chairs that were uncomfortable and also broken and cracked along the back. Having comfortable chairs out there make the space usable- which you need if traveling with 6 because the living room area doesn’t seat 6 people.
Checkout was a bit confusing. All sheets and towels need to be washed, which we found out via text. It mentioned sheets on VRBO but not towels.
Also, the house is only accessible by stone steps and then a wooden stair case. No problem for my family, but we sometimes travel with my parents and this would have been an issue for them, so mentioning it for others. You also have to walk/drive garbage bags down the road to a dump.
This could be a great place to stay if the kitchen was stocked like the listing mentioned and they updated the furnishings so they weren’t broken. Also an updated welcome packet including checkout instructions would help a lot!

Ocean vacation
This property has a huge screened in porch that we sat on all the time. It has a view of the marsh. We saw deer, a bald eagle and lots of boats going by. The inside of the house was nice also. The bedrooms were all good sized. Two bathrooms were a plus too. Kitchen, dining room and living room were also nice. We fit five people very comfortablely in there. If you want a porch with a view, this is the place for you. Bring your binoculars.

Tranquility and together time
We absolutely loved the cottage we stayed in at Back River Bend. It had everything that we needed and everything was clean and orderly. The view from the screened in porch was spectacular. I will cherish the memories of sitting quietly out there each morning of our stay and reading, meditating, and just drinking my coffee. While the quiet time and down time was excellent, we also enjoyed walking the trail, taking the canoes and kayaks out on the river, and taking a private wooden boat ride with Captain Jonathan all the way to the Atlantic. We were sad to leave but will always have the memories to keep in our hearts and also we will be thinking about returning again before too long.

A real piece of Calm and Tranquility!
This was our 1st time staying in the Georgetown/Bath area and it was a real pleasure. We enjoyed exploring new sites and partook in the excellent variety of food experiences!
When we weren't sightseeing or eating, we loved the peacefulness of sitting on the porch enjoying nature and the company of family!

Peaceful, relaxing & hot.
The cottage was exactly as described and was a quiet and peaceful base for our family vacation. It comfortably slept 6 people and provided plenty of space for everyone to hang out. The screened porch is perfect for relaxing mornings and after busy days at the beach, hiking and exploring. Our stay was during a 90 degree heat wave and the upstairs bedrooms were extremely hot even with the fans that were provided. We knew there was no ac and took a chance anyway. Once, the temperature broke it was an ideal spot.

Conveniently located, well maintained property
We had a good one week stay here with our family, friends, and our dog. Everything worked well and as advertised. Our group size varied during the week. As many as 6 stayed comfortably, but it was also good for just 2 of us. We used the cottage as a base for our visit and that worked well. Drive times: 15 minutes to Reid State Park; 10 minutes to Bath; 20 minutes to Brunswick; allow an hour for Portland. Screened in porch was a big plus. Internet was reliable with speed typical for non-business service. If you are looking for a main coast vacation "base station" this is a good option. Owners were very friendly and helpful. No issues there. We recommend this property.

Great stay. Wonderful screened porch!! Comfortable cottage. Fantastic vacation!
Pretty hot and muggy weather for Maine but the screened porch and the fans provided by the owners made everything work!! Very comfortable cottage.

Lovely wood beamed cottage for fanilies
We enjoyed our time together during our stay at Sebago- all three generations of one family! The master bedroom is large with high ceilings and upstairs rooms are just right, too. The owners are extremely helpful and accommodating- lending us a can opener, quickly getting us extra keys when we temporarily misplaced ours.. and lots of advice on where to go to swim, kayak, etc. our toddler could visit the boatyard and the baby sat with us on the screened porch all afternoon. Thank you!

Always hits the spot!
We’ve been vacationing in Maine since 2013 and the properties at BackRiver Bend boatyard have never failed to deliver. All of your basics are covered and you have the peace of mind of having owners/family nearby that are eager to help if/when needed. Close to all of the places we love and just enough off the beaten path to get away from it all.

Great house, great price
We recently rented for a week after our wedding. Very cute, clean house. We would rent again. Loved that we could bring our dog.
Loved having a washer and dryer.
Ruth and Sam were great.
Would maybe recommend having more fans in house it did get hot a few days.

Beautiful!
Wonderful view, especially from the screened in deck safe from the mosquitos. Ideal location close to Bath, yet seems like you're a hundred miles away. Very nice, and the state park pass was a great bonus!

Lovely setting, comfortable house, quiet area, super friendly owners
Four adults and two children stayed here during 4th of July week.
The owners, particularly Ruth, were more than accommodating: emails ahead of the stay were often answered the same day or by the next day, at the latest. The washing machine broke down during the week were there and once Ruth was informed she called a repairman to examine it, he determined a new one was needed and the next day a brand new washing machine was installed. Those of you who do not use the dishwasher during the week: it can fill up with water within a few days. Just press the "drain" button on the machine and the water will get drained out.
The house does look older than what the photos show on the website. But there is plenty of room, the screened-in porch is often very comfortably breezy and the views toward the water are nice though perhaps a few trees could be thinned out for a better view.
The downstairs queen bed is very comfortable, the couple in the upstairs queen bedroom found the mattress a bit hard, the kids liked the twin beds very much. The water is well water, not really drinkable and water pressure is not too strong in the downstairs shower. But the owners kindly provide two jugs of bottled water in the refrigerator to start your visit. We cooked most of our dinners in the house and found most everything we needed for our meals.
There's a trail that goes behind the house and goes perhaps a 1/3 of a mile back toward the roadway with some nice overlooks. We rented a canoe for the week and found that it would be best to take the canoe out as high tide is nearing and go up the Back River for an hour or so and then return as the tide begins to go out. Very nice and serene settings as you canoe or kayak up the river, well worth at least one canoe or kayak ride.
There's a pass to Reid State Park: a beautiful state beach, well worth a visit. Ruth will also tell you where there is a local watering hole 5 minutes away with a rope swing: the water was extremely clean and relatively warm for early July. Five Islands is about 15 minutes away where you can get a great lobster meal. Bath has most amenities if you need a grocery store and there is a Wal-Mart in Brunswick.
If you're there during 4th of July week ask Ruth where you can watch the fireworks in Bath. She'll let you know where there is a prime spot to watch them.
If you like quiet and some time away from the bustling world, you can't find a better place than this. Highly recommended!

Georgetown, Maine cottage
We had a great two week stay here. We loved the views of Back River Bend from the screened in porch and the cottage's convenient location close to Popham Beach and Reid State Park. It was also close to other attractions in the Portland, Monhegan Island and Camden areas for day trips. We highly recommend it.

Beautiful cottage with river view
We truly enjoyed our stay at the Sebago Cottage. It was very clean and well appointed with everything that we needed. We met Ruth, the owner on the day we arrived and she was very helpful with suggestions on places to go, restaurants etc. The location of the cottage is centrally located to all of the things that we love to do when we are in Maine and the view from the screen porch overlooking the river is beautiful. We visited many of the sites in the area including Boothbay Harbor and Reid State Park which are 2 of our favorites. There are so many wonderful seafood places that it is hard to decide which one is best! We loved Red's Eats for Lobster Rolls and Five Islands which was nearby, was our favorite all around place for all seafood. The view from Five Islands was spectacular! Overall it was a wonderful time in Maine for all of us.

Excellent facility and would highly recommend!
Very comfortable. Pleasant surrounding and Sam and Ruth made sure that any needs we had were met. Padding on the river was fun and relaxing. Would highly recommend, ideal for a family on couples. We went up there with three generations.

Great Base for Canoeing and Biking
We spent a week in Sebago Cottage as part of a cycling vacation in Maine. It is well-situated for cyclists, as it is only 7 miles from a large supermarket, 6 from a smaller supermarket and a health food store, and comes with a complete kitchen. Owners Ruth and Sam are also most helpful, and offered more than once to pick things up for us or bring us with them on one of their many trips into town, though we did not need to take them up on the offer. Biking in is also safe, as there is a decent shoulder on the first few miles of highway 127. Although the shoulder disappears halfway to Back River Bend, you can turn onto Old Stage Road before that happens, and have a pleasant ride down a quiet road with little traffic that is only half a mile longer.
The main attraction of Back River Bend is the canoeing and kayaking. Novices can find interesting side channels running off Back River nearby to explore, though this should be done at or close to high tide as they become quite shallow at low tide. More experienced boaters can go up Back River on an incoming tide and explore Hockomock Bay, which you enter 3 miles from the dock. It has miles of bays and coves to explore. Very experienced boaters can go south on an outgoing tide into the Kennebec River and reach Fort Popham and Popham Beach, about 7 miles away, and return on the incoming tide.
While there is not extensive biking in this area, Reid State Park is 8 1/2 miles away and has some great trails as well as two large beaches, and Five Islands is even closer and has a lobster pound that will cook you a lobster and provide you the fixings to have a picnic on their dock. Be aware that, like most places in Maine that are off the beaten track, the roads don't have shoulders and can be hilly at times.
We shared Sebago Cottage with another couple, one of us taking the master bedroom on the main floor, the other couple taking the two bedrooms upstairs as their private suite. Although there is a large table next to the kitchen, we had every meal out on the screened porch, which overlooks Back River. It is very quiet and private. It was a great week, and we plan to return.

Great cottage, nice location.
We found this cottage to be a nice, central location to the Bath area.
Sebago was clean and well stocked. Once we'd covered some screen holes, the bug free porch was very peaceful in the evening.

Sebago at Back River Bend
We have been visiting Back River Bend in Maine for 10 years now. Each time we visit continues to build on our fond memories of each of our previous stays. It is tough to pick a favorite cottage at Back River Bend, Each is unique in its own way but provides a similar level of release and feeling of relaxation that is hard to find in the daily grind of life. Sebago in my opinion is a great option for that family gathering that has all the conveniences of a home away from home but so much more included. I could go on in great detail of the offerings this area of Maine provides. Everyone who visits can find something to do. Great beaches, golf, fishing, boating, site seeing and of course the food experience. What sets Back River Bend apart from the rest is the hospitality. You will not find more gracious hosts than Sam & Ruth. I'll admit I'm jealous of the great life they have made for themselves at Back River Bend. But there is no reason to be jealous as Sam and Ruth are always willing to share that great life and the beautiful surroundings they have built with everyone they meet. My wife and I are privileged we have met them and been able to share some great memories these past 10 years. We will be back to visit again this summer and I cannot begin to explain how eagerly I hope the next few weeks go by until I find myself sitting on the deck of the Sebago Cottage thinking there cannot be a better place to be at this moment.
