The location is beautiful and is the main attraction about the property. The views are incredible and the house is on an amazing road that leads to the most beautiful scenic drive. The house is surrounded by other houses though, and the condition of the road leading to the house is terrible. A 4x4 would be handy for this road!!
There are so many things about this house that need upgrading/modernising. There’s no dishwasher or clothes dryer, so prepare to spend your stay hand washing dishes and attempting to dry laundry for a family on one tiny clothes horse! There’s no hooks/rail for wet towels, the beds are creaky and noisy, and the pillows are lumpy. The bed linen and towels smell VERY strongly of laundry detergent, it’s overwhelming. There’s only one bin for all rubbish/recycling, no separation of waste. There’s no plug for the kitchen sink. There’s no coffee machine or cafetière or ANYTHING to make a coffee with. There’s no blinds/curtains on the primary bedroom windows so the room is effectively unusable. The upstairs electric shower doesn’t work, so only the shower downstairs works off an old fashioned immersion system (ie, no spontaneous showers, you need to plan out how to wash a family of 5 people). The gate doesn’t stay closed so all the sheep get into the property and you need to keep moving them out to avoid getting droppings all around the paths. There’s no outdoor table and chairs for eating in the garden in good weather. The sliding door next to the dining table doesn’t open so you can’t open the door to what would be a beautiful sun spot in the kitchen in the evening sun.

The house was very spacious, all the rooms are big with lots of wardrobe space etc and en-suite in the main bedroom, the beds are very comfortable with crisp white linen provided. We found the house very clean and in good condition. It was functional with all you need for your stay, there is a washing machine and clothes horse, microwave, stove.
We had never stayed in Achill before so I wasn’t familiar with the location of the house. It is located 15 minutes from Achill sound, 20 minutes from Keel and approximately 30 minutes from Keem strand. It was a bit too far from amenities for us to be honest with the kids etc but we had our car and basically used the house as a base most days. The nearest shop is Achill sound (15 minutes drive) or the Circle K petrol shop (also 15 minutes drive) beside Teds Bar which by the way provided us with most of our evening entertainment for the kids during our stay….bingo, table quizzes, trad nights and the food is lovely. There is a bar 5 minutes drive from the house but we found it only really opened at the weekend.
Getting back to the house, there is 2 things I want to mention! The main bedroom needs blinds on the skylights- we were awake at 5am most mornings! And the shower/bath upstairs in the main bathroom doesn’t seem to have hot water, it’s an electric shower and we tried many times but couldn’t get it hot. So the en-suite is the only means of showering with hot water.

Great location, remote and peaceful. House was great, with plenty of space. There are no street lights, so at night it is pitch black and so silent, brilliant!
Property was difficult to find. There was a problem with the gate and as a result some sheep entered the grounds. The washing machine was faulty.

The location is magnificent. Our hosts Jane and Greg were so lovely to deal with and readily accommodated a last minute change to our travel arrangements due to COVID restrictions. The house has beautiful views and is spacious and warm with well laid out accommodation and was very well suited to our needs. The lovely gesture of wine and beer waiting for us on arrival was very welcoming and much appreciated.
Appreciate that our stay was in deep winter, but a starter pack of fuel for the living room stove would have been much appreciated given the long drive to get to the property and the fact that everywhere was closed on arrival. A dishwasher and some tea towels would also be a great addition to the kitchen. We did purchase a number of items such as tea towels ,glasses and some kitchen utensils and left to be enjoyed by others! We could have done with better instruction on the disposal of rubbish and recyclables.
