PLEASE READ PRIOR TO BOOKING:
We are super easy going and strive to go above and beyond our guest's expectations to ensure you have an awesome stay! Although we have only had this property for less than 2 years, we have been Superhosts for 4+ years and the vast majority of our stays have been great hosting experiences. Unfortunately, there have been a few (very rare) issues where guests violated and damaged our home through massive parties and unapproved (poorly trained) pets so we now feel it is necessary to spell out some basic rules. Please don't take this as us being rigid and uptight hosts, we are just trying to protect ourselves from the very rare, unfortunate hosting experience. With the exception of the very important fishing rule (explained below) these will be common sense for most.
General Overview:
- No smoking in the house
- No parties (unless you request and we provide written approval). We are certainly happy to accommodate additional guests (upon request) if you want to host family or friends from the area over for a meal or something. However, there are outdoor security cameras so we will know how many people arrive. If an unauthorized party does take place there will be an a $250 fee per guest over the requested guest count. Example: if 10 people are supposed to be staying but 20 end up staying (without written approval) there will be an additional $2,500 charge to your stay. Again, having some friends/family over that aren't staying at the cabin is not why this is in place, we have unfortunately had significant damage to our property from a large "kegger" party.
- Leave the house in the same (clean) condition as when you arrived.
- All pets must be requested prior to booking and we do charge a minimum pet fee of $25 per dog per day but reserve the right to charge up to $50 per dog/per night depending on the dog/group size. If an unapproved pet comes it will be $100 per night per animal.
- Our rate is based on a max occupancy of 8 total people. There is enough bed capacity for 11-12 people as well as additional space for air mattresses or cots (which you can bring). However, we charge $40 per person/ per night for each additional person over the first 8 guests and we ask that you please be transparent with your group size.
FISHING STRICTLY PROHIBITED
*There are amazing spots to fish close by, some with a guide, others are public but the stretch of stream in front of this house is heavily regulated and not owned by us. This house is strictly a house rental, under no circumstances can you fish the water connected to the property. By booking this property you accepting full responsibility if you violate this very simple rule. Upon arrival, we have all guests sign an acknowledgement waiver agreeing to the risks/penalties if any fishing does happen. This includes but is not limited to, fines of several thousand dollars and potential legal action. As a reminder, there are outdoor security cameras and if you fish you will be caught, it is definitely not worth it. In summary DO NOT FISH in the water attached to the property *
CLEANING:
Please reference the checkout checklist prior to leaving the property. The house is professionally cleaned between guests so it will be fresh and clean upon your arrival. All we ask is that you please leave the house in the same condition as when you arrived. We will take care of all linens and trash (which you will leave in designated areas). The cleaning fee covers the linen turnover/bed making, trash removal and some minor misc. items like stocking soap, paper towels, etc. If the house is not left in the same clean condition and additional cleaning is required we may have to charge extra to cover any added cost we incur from the cleaners.
PET POLICY:
We are animal lovers and this is a "Pet Friendly" property. However, this does NOT mean we allow any and all pets. If you have a pet that you would like to bring please share details about your pet along with a request to bring them with you. For liability reasons some general information is needed; size, age, breed, temperament , etc. Additionally, we ask that you please keep your furry friends off the furniture and leave the house/property in the same condition as when you arrived (with or without pets).
We do not have a fixed pet fee as this changes depending on the animal(s) and size of group, etc. Typically we charge $25-$50 per day. This fee does NOT cover damage to the property or any mess caused by the pet. We do expect any "mess" outside or brought into the house to be cleaned up.
To clarify, pets may be welcome at this property but not until after we have given written approval (prior to your booking).

A very warm rustic stay away from home. Everything was very clean, easy find stuff for cooking, comfortable furniture, and the beds were the best to sleep on, I stay out of town a lot so it was nice to have a good night sleep. The outdoor scenery is breathtaking with the greenery & woods with a beautiful flowing spruce creek to listen too. Would most definitely recommend anyone to stay here and would rebook again in the future if available.

Property is in a beautiful location, would be great outdoor space in nice weather. Virtually impossible to find in the dark, needs better signage, lighting, specific directions, because the road signs don’t match up with any navigation apps. and it is Dark back there! Thankful for the back up heat sources because the central heating as well as Internet service (including tv streaming) were off-line for the first 24 hours until the manager returned my texts. The shared living spaces are wonderful, kitchen/dining and family room areas. Our teens enjoyed using the pool table since TV service wasn’t working. Bed and bath situation not really conducive for 10 guests as one of the bedrooms just basically fits a bed, has no privacy with glass doors, no storage and a bedroom door that doesn’t close. One bathroom is captive to the main bedroom, and the other bathroom is very tiny to be shared among eight guests. The interior is nicely decorated and well-maintained, exterior is a work in progress.

We enjoyed our stay at the cabin and was what we were looking for. A place to relax, enjoy the surroundings, and unwind. Our host was terrific as well - engaging to ensure we enjoyed our time here.

Must See Fantastic House, very clean and stocked with everything needed for a family get away.
We enjoyed spending time in the large family room and sitting out by the fire and listening to the creek .

I come to Spruce Creek each year bringing a group of friends to fish. This house is ideal. Great kitchen, great recreation room and beds and bedrooms are really comfortable.

Beautiful area. Love how quiet it was. The creek running by made morning so relaxing. And to have the fire outside was great. It was great for a small college friend reunion. The house was clean. Well kept. We would rent it again. Loved the higher beds. Felt like home.

Beautiful view of the mountains, creek running through was great to hang out side with the fire. Really enjoyed spending time in the great room with the pool table and plenty of seating so we could all spend time together! Owners are very attentive, my son lost his phone there and they so kindly offered to meet us to return! Will definitely come again.

Really nice place. Perfect for a large family gathering. Stayed there with our family for the PSU vs MD game. Convenient drive to football tailgating lots on north side of Beaver Stadium.

Great property for getting together with family/friends. Very spacious with cabin feel inside. Beds were comfortable and there was plenty of seating. Large selection of DVDs. Large kitchen…but could use new pots/pans… there were no baking dishes or cookie sheets. Family room was large and pool table was enjoyable. Outside area was not as private as we had hoped, but view out back was great… loved the large creek running right behind the property. Enjoyed hiking, but most trails were fairly steep and rocky… just something to know ahead of time. Internet is very spotty so plan on being without technology while staying here. Fenced in area for the dogs was very convenient. Overall it was a nice rental with the cabin gel we were seeking!

My husband and I took our kids and little pug here for Christmas. Of course we pick the coldest weekend in 30 years!! It was -6 degrees. The pipes froze but the owner drove out on Christmas Eve to thaw them and no problems after that. The kids had fun in the snow until they froze. It's in a pretty area with a river in the back and a fenced in area for the dog. It was a quiet space and didn't feel like there was anyone else around. The kitchen was well stocked. The place was clean. The owners were very responsive and truly wanted us to enjoy our stay.

My parents, wife and kids all stayed for about a week and had a wonderful time. Plenty of space and quiet location, yet close to town. We saw bald eagles from the windows almost every day. Kids loved shooting pool. Just be prepared to have limited cell and Wi-Fi connectivity, we didn’t mind. We would definitely stay again.

Our family had a wonderful time here. It was clean and very cozy. Very nice sitting in the living room in front of the fireplace and also having the pool table there to enjoy. The internet was spotty, which we knew going in, so if that's a critical thing for you then do consider that. Hosts very nice. Would go here again!

Nice family get away
The house is set up with large kitchen/ dining area in the center with a very large Family Room on one side and the bedroom wing on the other. The creek is very close and the rushing water sound was nice. The side yard was also very large and the family enjoyed being out on the property. It accommodated 10 sleeping pretty well.

Spacious Cabin for Perfect Getaway Weekend
Enjoyed a nice long weekend with my spouse and a friend from college (WE ARE!) and her family at this cabin on Spruce Creek. Both the wifi and cell service were very limited and spotty, but it made it nice to just be able to disconnect for a little while and enjoy the company and the outdoors. The creek in the back made for the perfect serene backdrop. The inside of the house absolutely met expectations from the pictures and was very clean. The only reason I took one star off for cleanliness was due to what appeared to be remodeling materials including a discarded counter left outside on the far side of the house, but we didn't venture over there very often for it to make any noticeable impact on our stay.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and Brendyn and Becca were great hosts. Would absolutely consider coming back in the future.
NOTE: Don't use Google Maps to get there. Use Waze instead, it got us there perfectly and matched the instructions that Brendyn and Becca sent to us.

Wonderful stay in this lodge-like waterfront place!
Although it was a rainy weekend, we were able to thoroughly enjoy this well appointed home with pool table and plenty of space for all. The rustic wood panel interior and fishing theme and hunting theme touches were great. The moose head was a big hit!
The beds were very comfortable and the new heating/cooling system allowed everyone to set there bedroom temperature. The kitchen was well appointed and plenty of DVDs to watch or board games. The bathrooms were clean and plenty of hot water for the family showers to start the day.
Great fire pit out back along the stream but rain hampered our use! Highly recommend!

Spent Christmas with my family and we had an amazing time. The house was perfect, lots of charm and plenty of room. Huge kitchen and dual dining area. Recommend this place to anyone wanting so real R&R.

Repeat winter stay
This was our second stay at this beautiful property. All of the comforts of home and more! A wonderful getaway. The stars at night were beautiful. Our dog loves it here: fenced yard, surrounding property safe for leisurely sniffing, nearby rails to trails path, neighborhood walks, the forest nearby, and lying in front of the gas fireplace/stove. The humans hope to come back during warmer weather to enjoy more of the outdoors.

Enjoyable time with family
The house is comfortable, the inside is charming. The sound of the creek was soothing and we saw an eagle resting in the tree in the yard by the creek.

Place was good, but hard to find
Overall the location was beautiful and spacious. Fit all 8 of us comfortably, but just note, couches will be used if big groups. Our only problem was finding the place the first day. The address on the listing for some reason does not lead you to the right location, so make sure you get directions from host. The main reason it took us so long to find the place was that there is no signal in or around the area except for small spots of luck, so be prepared for that. Other than that, if you are looking for a place that will distance you from technology and have some well needed bonding time, I recommend this place.

Great house in an amazing setting
The pictures on VRBO do not do this house justice. Great space indoor and out. Sitting around the fire pit next to the stream was the best. Plenty of firewood provided by the owner. The house was super clean and had everything we needed for our weekend stay. Kitchen is well stocked, which is important to us, because when we're doing a short stay, we don't want to have to buy spices, plastic wrap, etc. We loved it and hated to leave. We were in town for PSU football game so didn't get to spend as much time as we would have liked at the house. Would definitely book again, but for a few extra days next time. Thank you, Brendyn

Beautiful setting - Spacious property!
The property owner really DOES go above and beyond. I texted with him over the weekend and he was very attentive and responsive to text.
Any fan of the outdoors will love this property. Even if you're a homebody - You can curl up with a good book near the moose while the outdoorsy can explore the creak, go hiking, or just lounge in or next to the creak.
The fire pit was used every evening to do pie-iron meals. I right of passage for any kiddo (and some adults!)! There are pie irons there (doubles too!) to use if you forget yours.
The kitchen and living room are very spacious. Plenty of room for everyone to enjoy a movie, or watch others play pool. The pool table is in GREAT condition. The Que sticks are all fairly well kept for strangers using them regularly.
A few notes to avoid "uh ohs":
Unless you have Verizon (in our experience) - you would need WIFI calling and use the internet. The internet worked great for me and I also have Verizon but others had issues making calls and needed to use WIFI calling. If you don't have WIFI calling - expect to be left in peace :)
The bedroom descriptions are probably a bit restrictive so the way it's described with the room boxes can be confusing.
First bedroom in hall (master) has a 2person bed - full bath,
second bedroom in hall has a 2person bed with a single bunk above it
Third bedroom in hall has a 2person bed
A small den/bedroom has a futon that can sleep 2 people shorter than roughly 5'5".
The great/living room has 2 pull out sofa beds.
Everyone had a fantastic time and loved every second of our trip!

Perfect Nature Retreat
We had the pleasure of spending a few days at this property and completely enjoyed our stay. When we arrived the house was spotless. The interior is very spacious, has comfortable furniture, and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything needed to cook.
The outside is even better than inside. The stream and view is amazing, the fire pit is right by the stream, there is comfortable seating and plenty of firewood.
I would love to come back and would definitely recommend this property.

Great Family Weekend Getaway
Excellent place for a getaway. Super cute and spacious on the inside. Peaceful property. We enjoyed the nature around us. The flowing of the creek was peaceful in itself with the woods right behind it. My dog loved having the space to be free within the gated area attached to the patio and kitchen. The owners were fantastic with communication. I am excited to see what they do with the exterior of the house. It is going to be absolutely beautiful when they get done to doing what they shared with us; in the meantime, it is a great place to come back to after a day of hiking and fishing. We loved having hiking trails nearby and the Lincoln Caverns was a cool place to check out, as well (only about 15 min from the cabin).

Great getaway!
If you’re looking to relax, this is the place! I went with a group of close friends and this property had plenty of space for people who wanted to sit by the fire, eat on the back patio, hang out in the lounge area and play pool, or sit in the kitchen and chat. The fire pit was great at night and we had great views of the sky and could hear the creek that was right next to us. Beautiful mountain views!
The owner was great at communicating. There were responses to my emails within hours, and a phone number was provided for texting during our stay. I would recommend this property to any friend.

Not all pictures are listed to describe property accurately
Definitely NOT as clean as you would like, esp during COVID. We left the am after checking in instead of staying for our week long reservation. Property owner was great about communication UNTIL there was a problem. Prior guests food still in fridge/freezer. We are still dealing with Covid, do you really want someone else’s half used food and leftovers in the fridge? When I originally told owner about the food in fridge he said that’s not their standards at all. While on conference call with VRBO, that suddenly became food he left for us upon check in. White claw, Miller Lite, open margarita mix and open condiments were left for us during a pandemic? Food on toaster, crumbs all over counter, in microwave and fridge. Toothpaste on bathroom mirror and absolutely no way to tell if bathrooms were clean because iron stains in toilets, tub and shower were atrocious. A clear shower curtain that was hanging was completely orange from iron stains. Was it clean? Who knows, the kitchen wasn’t! I tried cleaning myself, but have asthma that stress that major cleaning agitated. The owner failed to follow up so I contacted VRBO. When VRBO connected us in a call, owner was clearly no longer a nice guy, but turned into an insult hurling person when confronted with the issues we encountered. Suddenly my initial call to him upon check-in regarding water pouring from the ceiling mounted ac unit and puddling on his wood floors became...”so you want a refund because the air conditioning was up too high”, then he said you must have left because your family couldn’t join you, or you left because your husband couldn’t fish on the property. Ridiculous accusations, backed up messages thru VRBO before checkin. We have stayed at many rustic places in the past with absolutely no issues with cleanliness or with the hosts. Really disappointed in his reaction as a host, truly never expected that, but he clearly has no intention of taking responsibility. Just a warning I wish someone would have left for us, ask for pics of tub, shower and toilet before booking. Be prepared to do some cleaning on arrival if you are not cool with prior guests food being in the fridge and a less than clean kitchen/bathrooms. I have the pics and would love to post. VRBO has been provided with copies of the photos and hopefully they encourage the owner to post accurate pics of bathrooms for future guests, and to up cleanliness standards. At least empty/clean the fridge!

A riverside retreat
This was a beautiful location and close (easy ride!) to State College. The back/side area was an outdoor enthusiast’s dream and inside was cozy, welcoming, and spacious. Our host was communicative and very very helpful throughout the process.

Perfect Cabin to Reset, Recharge, Reconnect
There are so many positive things to say about "Spruce Creek Cabin". I will not be able to fit them all in this write up. Upon our arrival, we found the cabin spotless, cozy, comfortable and welcoming. We immediately headed out for a hike which was a minute away. We could have walked to the trail head by crossing the creek but simply didn't realize. We had an exhilarating hike to the overlook which was the perfect prep for a happy hour and game of pool with the moose keeping score. At dinnertime, the kitchen had everything we needed for preparing full course meals. One of my favorite things was enjoying coffee in front of the fire in the mornings while reading and watching our pup in the dog yard (ideal!). It was hard to get any reading done, because the view off the kitchen was so beautiful! Every day we found lovely state parks to hike in which were all within an hours drive. There were a lot of hikes/parks close to the cabin, but we set out each day with an explorer's mentality. At night, we found the master bedroom with ensuite very comfortable, inviting and stocked with all we needed. Our goal was to spend time away with great hikes and comfortable accommodations. Spruce Creek Cabin was the perfect stay in regards to comfort, location and Brendyn could not have been more responsive and helpful from first inquiry to last. If you like nature and are looking for a quiet, fun get-away, GO TO SPRUCE CREEK CABIN!

Beautiful Fall Family Weekend
We just returned from a lovely weekend at this great property! It’s right on the banks of Spruce Creek and has wonderful outdoor space for bonfires and grilling out! It was so peaceful to sit by the bonfire and listen to the water rushing by. Short drive to wineries, breweries and distilleries! Very clean and nice accommodations. The pool table was a nice added perk! Brendyn was very helpful and responsive, and very accommodating. I can’t wait to go back again!

The property’s host was easy to reach for concerns, and instructions were clear on the house guidelines. We found the home clean, quiet, and easy to locate from the road. Because of the Coronavirus the nearby bakery was closed. Local store 20 minute drive away, though we had brought all necessary food with us because of the pandemic. Wish the weather had been warmer to take advantage ...relaxing on the stone porch by the stream. Being indoors playing billiards was fun. Hiking in the area is available, though research should be done before hand to access the difficulty of the hike. A drive to Raystown Lake is worth the trip for the area is well maintained and the walking path is easily reachable. Our dog enjoyed the walk as well. There are other dogs around the property, so keeping your dog leashed is a must. Longer stay next time....
