Bird's Nest
Our calendar is updated in real-time & our nightly rates are accurately displayed. Simply enter your desired dates and click 'Book Now!'
Bird’s Nest is located on top of a protected dune with spectacular views of Pelican Cove and the Gulf of Mexico. The fabulous views of the water can be enjoyed from the screened-in porch with outdoor dining for four or from the private hot tub where each night you can see the lighthouse light shining beneath the stars. More of a morning person? Then you will love the kitchen, as it is set up to take advantage of more views from the cozy bench seat where you can sip your morning coffee and watch the sunrise. The views continue in the main bedroom with its en-suite bathroom and large soaking tub. The home also has a loft with two twin beds and a second bathroom with a walk-in shower.
This home also has an elevator that enters from the concrete drive and opens to the main living level. Bird lovers will enjoy scanning the trees for the wide varieties of birds that call Dauphin Island home. Who knows, you may even get a chance to see the bald eagle that is often seen in the trees by Bird’s Nest. If visiting during the cooler seasons, the wood-burning stove is a great way to warm up after a winter stroll with the family dog. It doesn’t get any better than Bird’s Nest, where you can step off the deck and have nothing but sand between you and the shoreline.
A short, sandy walk to the water's edge of Bienville Beach can be enjoyed —a stroll guests have described as enjoyable and part of the experience. A place where you can splash around, swim, and play with the kids. A mile away, you'll find Ship & Shore Supplies Inc. with everything you need to keep your pantry stocked during your stay. Head two-and-a-half miles east to visit Audubon Bird Sanctuary, with maritime forest and walking trails full of spectacular wildlife. Bird lovers will enjoy scanning the trees for the many varieties of birds that call Dauphin Island home.

We had a great short vacation
4.0 / 5.0
Loved the private quiet setting and layout of the home. Elevator is life saver and the BBQ out front was great. Tons of parking, plenty of towels and wash cloths. Easy access and good location to get around the island. Would def recommend!
5.0 / 5.0
Very quiet, relaxing setting. Centrally located to all that the island has to offer. House was clean up on arrival and has a great grilling station. Elevator was a life saver and enjoyed how quiet it was. The stars are amazing at night.
1.0 / 5.0
There were problems with the elevator. Called the host and never received a response. Their instructions were incomplete. While trying to figure out how it works, had to bring up some luggage the equivalent of 4 flights of stairs. The stairs also had loose handrailing. The lockbox was unsecured when we arrived, anyone could have gotten in. Most awful experience was a “swarm” of termites INDOORS. They were everywhere flying around and getting ON OUR FAMILY. Made more calls to host, was on the phone for hours and they did nothing and there was no place to go. They said it is normal for that area. Termite swarms are normal, just not indoors. We couldn’t sleep, finally closed off part of the house with the shower and washer/dryer and put towels under the door. It stopped new ones from entering. The next day there were dead bugs everywhere, on countertops, drawers, floors. Would never recommend this place.

Loved the island. Christmas break not too many places to eat. The 3 flights of stairs to the unlighted porch in the cold was annoying. Could’nt see the lock box then had to use a flashlight on my knees to dial the code. The lock box wouldn’t open to release the keys. Called assistance 30 minutes on hold (cold dark) she couldn’t help but found the on island person. Another 30 minutes and This person was not on the island but told us how pry open the space with the keys.

Just as advertised. Will stay again.

We really enjoyed ourselves here. It was a short Sandy walk to the beach and honestly we enjoyed the walk. However, people with mobility issues or not wanting to walk in sand up and down a hill might not enjoy it as much. The house was very clean and well furnished, although the living room furniture could be more comfortable. The elevator from the parking area directly to the living room was a very nice feature. The views were nice and although there are houses close by, there is a sense of privacy from the beach side porch. The kitchen appliances and layout were very nice. In all, the house was very comfortable for us and we enjoyed our stay.

We really enjoyed this property. Very clean, cozy and comfortable

This was exactly the little winter getaway we needed! The house overlooks the dunes and is just a little walk down to the water. The deck was my favorites part!
The bed is super firm, which we loved but might be too firm for some. The cookware is in desperate need of replacement, but in our experience that seems to be pretty common in vacation rentals. Overall - can't wait to book again next year!

The two showers didn't work, only the overhead in the far bathroom.
The hot tub didn't get hot enough.
And the mirrors above the vanities were too high for me as I'm a short person.

Absolutely breathtaking views and gorgeous design. Love whoever decorated this beautiful modern secret hideaway

Our stay was great! Beautiful property! The only negative was that we couldn’t get the vents to work in the master bedroom. Otherwise wonderful place!

I want to move into this house! I loved seeing the lighthouse, the lagoon, the Gulf, sunrises and sunsets. The kitchen, bath, and laundry are new and fancy! The whole house was beautiful, well-appointed, and clean. There's something magical about this place.

The house was spotless. It was well decorated and comfortable. The design walking across the deck to the very private dune was perfect for my wife and my 10 test old German Shepard. Her, the dog and I had coffee went morning on the dunes right just steps from the house. It was so quiet and peaceful we could not have asked for anything more. The house had all amenities one could ask for regarding kitchen equipment, appliances and toiletries. The elevator made it do easy to ascend to the house in front when bringing our gear up and ourselves. It is a real elevator not just a gear lift and worked perfectly. There was much to do in the area even though it was after labor day. We will return again and again and see going to plan another trip here soon. Thank you very much for such a well planned, equipped and located get away.

The property itself was nice and clean. The trash was overflowing and hadn’t been taken out to the curb in a while. This made it impossible to take our trash out. We were also taken aback by the squirrels that have taken over underneath the home and in the roof. They were constant throughout the nighttime and pretty active during the day too. It finally became unbearable for us and our dog. We contacted Vacasa and did not hear back until the next morning. We had decided to check out to enjoy the rest of our time off best we could. We talked with the property manager who didn’t seem too concerned by the infestation. Definitely disappointed. Have been trying to receive a refund for the unused days/days they worked on infestation but cannot get response from them.

The house is cute. Older than it looks in the pictures but not at all in disrepair. The elevator is a life saver because there are a LOT of stairs.
We loved that there are no size restrictions on dogs. We have two gentle giants and they are never allowed anywhere. The bad part is they have to go down the elevator or all the stairs to potty because the back door is the dunes and the burrs are relentless.
Inside the house there really isn’t anywhere comfortable to sit around and hang out. The inlet that you can walk to over the dunes is pretty far, you definitely have to like walking to get to the beach! If you want the gulf you will have to drive to a public beach and pay to go. The fridge is not full size and while there is plenty of room there is no ice.
Over all the house is nice, however this is the most expensive rental I have ever stayed in and the value for what this place costs just was not there for us.
4.0 / 5.0
Pros: great view, quiet location, hot tub, nice kitchen, elevator is awesome, great washer and dryer, AC blows nice and cold, lots of ceiling fans
Cons: furniture and master bed very uncomfortable, killed 3 roaches in house during stay, no blackout shades in master so neighbors porch light shined in all night and early sunrise wakes you up, not much parking on street so guys next door with boats made navigating into the property difficult, slippery master tub so bring a mat,

This house is tucked away from all the island activity and is great for relaxing and watching the migrating birds. There’s also a cove close by for fishing and beach access a little bit further out. You’ll definitely get your steps in climbing up and down the sand dunes to get to the water, but it’s good exercise and well worth it. The house is well organized with lots of windows to enjoy the views, and the elevator supports easy loading and unloading of your supplies.

I had everything I could possibly need and it was so relaxing! You had complete privacy and your back deck.
2.0 / 5.0
The views of the sand dunes and ocean are gorgeous. Best spot to watch the sunset. The island is very nice but not a lot to do and they only have 2 decent restaurants to go to (while we were there).
The house needs a lot of work such as a decent paint job with much needed repairs to the damaged walls and the house is covered with mold because of the wood finish not being treated. Windows were filthy and no screens to open to capture the wonderful ocean breeze.
We made the best of our stay and ended up leaving a day early.

Elevator doesn’t work and lots of steps to get to the house super long walk to the beach with a super steep hill and roof leaks right over bath tub and house wasn’t even clean dog hair even on the pillows soda cans ok back deck

We are a family of 4- 2 twenty somethings and 2 fifty somethings. We brought our 2 dogs, the oldest is 13 and has some mobility issues. They were fascinated by the elevator(which was very helpful to get them in and out). I think they thought of it as a magic room. Step in one place, walk out someplace totally different . The house was great, loved the jacuzzi. Very convenient having a washer/dryer. Reasonable distance to the beach, our group had a great time fishing! Loved Dauphine Island and would stay at this location again in a heartbeat, perfect distance from everything.
5.0 / 5.0
This was an easy 5 star review for us. We truly enjoyed our stay. The house is even better than advertised. We spent 5 nights at the Bird's Nest.
Some of the things we loved:
It's a very clean, bright, airy welcoming home decorated with cute beach décor.
The views of the dunes, treetops and Pelican Bay out the back windows and bedroom windows were fantastic.
The dunes were great for exploring and seeing wildlife.
The beds were comfortable, and the air conditioning did an excellent job keeping the house cool on some very hot days.
The elevator worked great, which was a blessing because this house is on stilts and it must be about 50 or so steps to get to the front door. The back of the house is level with the top of the 20 foot dunes, which can be a bit unnerving to climb down (and back up) when you go out exploring or head to the bay or beach.
The house feels tucked-away and secluded even though there are a couple of houses nearby. You hardly notice they’re there and you feel like you’re the only ones on the island.
The house has a small private office. It has beautiful built in shelves filled with a variety of books. It also has its own ceiling fan. It was the perfect place for our son to enjoy his computer in peace.
The nearby Lighthouse Bakery is a delight. The pastries and sandwiches were fresh and delicious and the staff was super friendly.
We recommend bringing flashlights. You’ll find hundreds of ghost crabs on the beach after sundown. However, when it gets dark there are absolutely no lights on the pier and it’s pitch black out there. Find some way to remind you where the trail to the pier is before it gets dark, we got lost the first night out.
Some things we learned:
The house was near the beach and the beach it beautiful, but accessing it is a bit of a nightmare. This isn’t a criticism of the house – more a criticism of Dauphin Island. With a small bit of effort the town could make the beach MUCH more accessible. You can get there from the house, but it’s not a short walk and the walk is down sand dunes and through acres of thick brush on tiny little overgrown dirt paths. It’s not easy but the beach is worth it.
Bring sneakers. The brush is filled with those annoying little stickers that will cover your socks and shoes. The terrain isn’t for flip-flops though.
The house didn’t have a vegetable peeler. This may seem silly, but it was the one thing we needed and we didn’t have one. In fact, we went to three different stores in a half hour radius – and they didn’t have one either so we had to improvise.
The television remote controls were a bit of a frustration. There are four – and it took us quite a while to figure out which one was for which room and TV/Roku/DVD player, etc. Labeling them would save some frustration.
Finally, and most importantly, bring plenty of mosquito repellent. The mosquitoes are fierce. You step outside the house and they swarm you. No bug issues inside the home, but you have to be prepared before you step outside. We were fine with repellent.
Most of the ‘things we learned’ are related to the area as opposed to the house, but anyone staying at The Birds Nest should be prepared. A little preparation will ensure your stay is amazing as ours was. We wouldn’t hesitate to return to The Bird’s Nest again. We just loved it.

This property was bigger than we needed but was the right location and we were able to bring our fur baby. It was clean and spacious. Will rent again.
5.0 / 5.0
Great choice! Need step stool fotr anyone under 7 ft tall. Also should describe better how and where to find key lockbox. Due to missing roof vents, you likely have squirrels in the attic!
5.0 / 5.0
Beautifully unique home situated at the top of the dunes. Loved the gulf view and the hot tub on the private back deck.
4.0 / 5.0
There were some good and some bad qualities here. It is cozy and feels like a home away from home. When we arrived we had drove from Tennessee about 8 hours drive. We get there and the elevator was broken. So, after 8 hours of being in a vehicle we now had to carry luggage up about 4 stories of steps. It took us a bit to even find where the key was in the dark (FYI at the top of the stairs on the post facing the door is a little locked key holder). The house is in front of sand dunes but that beach barely has enough sand to set up, mostly only fisherman there. We had to load everything up go down the road about half a mile unload and then walk about a mile to the beach. They finally came and fixed the elevator by about the 5th day of being there thankfully because my husband has back trouble and the elevator was one of the reasons we picked this place. If you have any type of ailments such as back trouble, I would not suggest this place on the off chance the elevator isn't working and you get stuck carrying luggage up 4 flights of stairs. The loft beds were very comfortable but the master bedroom mattress was as stiff as a board. I did enjoy the hot tub and it does have most everything you would need in the kitchen except seafood utensils.

This house is convenient to public beach and restaurants (short walk/bike/drive). Stargazing is amazing from deck. Great sunrise and sunset views from the dune. The house was clean upon our arrival and kitchen had more than enough cookware and bakeware to prepare meals.
5.0 / 5.0
House is nicely decorated and comfortable, even nicer in person than in the photos. Location on top of a dune offered great views of Pelican Point and the Gulf beyond. Very quiet neighborhood. We will be back.

This was a perfect romantic setting for us! It was clean, all amenities were there. You want be disappointed!

This beach house was the perfect getaway location! Dauphin Island is beautiful and everyone we encountered was so nice and helpful. This house is a little walk away from the shoreline (wear shoes if you walk straight there to avoid the burrs!) and was a couple minute drive from all 3 public beaches on the island. The house was clean and comfortable and the hot tub was a perfect place to stare at the stars after dark. I highly recommend this house for anyone looking for a comfortable beach stay.
5.0 / 5.0
The amenities were exquisite and felt very comfortable. We had a lot of rain on our trip, but we didn’t mind staying in and enjoying the house.
5.0 / 5.0
The house, the location, the locals! All just incredible. My husband drove down for a short getaway to the beach with our pups and it was quite possibly the best mini vacay we’ve done yet! I will definitely book this house again. The hosts were super helpful and we didn’t lack for anything and the house was just a dream. A fairytale cottage on the beach that I never wanted to leave. I will definitely book with them again! No complaints

We enjoyed the home. It’s location on the dunes and close to the beach was as advertised. Our dogs loved being able to run around in the sand. The elevator is a god send! Recommend this location to anyone who wants some quiet time.
5.0 / 5.0
The place was really nice and cozy. Very clean. Just didn’t know the water was so far away to walk. Sand dunes made it hard for us to go down and especially walk up. We’re in our later 70’s . Being able to have dog with us was a plus. Pirates restaurant really close and they did have a pool we could use.

Relaxing Getaway
Birds Nest was the perfect location for my husband to relax & enjoy the few local restaurants, off-shore fishing (Show n Tail LLC) & delay our return home from Destin/Miramar Beach by a few more days.

Great house
Great house, very clean. Had a little trouble with the key box but other than that it was a good time.

Amazing!
This house was amazing! It was in a good location and you are able to walk to the beach if you want too. Also not far from Mobile, so you can drive there in about 40 minutes if you want to visit any of their attractions. Loved the hot tub and the telescope. Also loved the fact that when you are on the island, you are away from the hussle of the city. Enjoyed our stay very much!
