The house is beautiful. The surrounding area is beautiful. The house is well stocked so everything you need, was very peaceful. We walked down to the lake and the garage/basement with all the games and things in it was an amazing asset. We had a wonderful time.

The cabin is beautiful! All our expectations were met and exceeded during our three-night stay. Four teenagers were never bored, even on a rainy day! We live within an hour's drive and will definitely return.

We had a great time at Shady Pines, with 3 generations coming together for a relaxing and fun lake weekend! The cabin was beautifully decorated and full of thoughtful details to make our stay perfect. Thanks for opening your space to us to make memories! Would love to come back!

From the minute we walked into the house, we felt welcomed. Carefully placed, hand-written cards encouraged us to enjoy all the place had to offer. The space is well-designed for a larger group. The kitchen had every thing you'd need to cook big dinners to serve around a wonderful dining room table. The home was wonderfully decorated and clean. The host was easy to reach with any questions. Our only regret is that we didn't have more time to take advantage of all there was to enjoy. We have already recommended the place to others who plan to be in the area.

Well appointed, beautiful setting! Loved all.the attention to detail both inside and outside. So welcoming and relaxing. The lake is down the hill. The stairs to the pathway are a little steep but manageable. Lake was a bit murky. There is a dock for use which is nice. Saw a couple of deer. Enjoyed everything from the hot tub to the games in the garage. A great mini vacation! Thank you for such a lovely place!

This was an incredible place to stay. Loved the old woods (incl the drive in), the house, the hot tub, the deck, fire pit. So comfortable. So many thoughtful touches. Decor was so well done but also so inviting. Our only disappointment was the weather. Our usual m.o. in nature is to be outside for everything possible. Unfortunately, most of our visit was rainy. We had so much fun as a family playing games in the basement with the garage open, tho, enjoying the sounds of rain. Enough reprieves in the weather tho to enjoy the fire pit and hot tub a few times each, and somewhat the deck, but never got to kayak. The lake was also 12’ over normal, and trying to get a kayak off the shore (too many of the trees in the way) looked like more than we could swing anyway. I seem to remember the posting for this property didn’t guarantee lake access. It’s true. If kayaking is a must, choose another property. This place is a gem otherwise. And so is the owner.

The house, deck, porch and property were wonderful and tastefully decorated and landscaped. It was so relaxing and had everything we needed down to comfy pillows and top quality bedding. It is quite a climb to go fishing but managable. There were 3 couples, we felt right at home and had a WONDERFUL time. We made great memories with great friends!!

We loved the cabin! It was fun and beautiful! The outside deck was relaxing and welcoming!
So much to do in the basement with games and ping pong! Great for children and adults! We would love to return!! Thank you!

I booked this cabin for my husband’s 36th birthday weekend. I can’t give enough great reviews to this property. Everything was immaculate. There were so many little details that made it perfect. The kitchen was fully stocked. Everything you could possibly need was already there. The beds were super comfortable. There were plenty of towels and blankets. The downstairs was a great hang out area. The spacious deck was perfect for grilling out. When we needed something during the weekend, the running joke was “I bet the cabin already has it!” Melissa was an excellent host. She checked to make sure we made it and was easily accessible all weekend. We will definitely book again! This cabin is a gem close to home we didn’t know about.

Very cute, well stocked with plenty of activities to keep a group happy. Bedding and towels were very nice. Plenty of kitchen cookwear and dishes so you don’t have to run the dishwasher after every meal! Nice cabin atmosphere but you do have some neighbors that seem to be part time. Great rental!

We stayed for a 4 day weekend and by then end of day 1 we all wished we were staying a full week.
The property was as advertised and has everything you could need, all we needed was groceries. Communication was great and very responsive. The game room in the garage was so much fun and the hot tub was super relaxing. The Mammoth Cave area is about 45 minutes drive (if you like the small roads like us). We had fun at Dinosaur World, Kentucky Down Under and exploring caves and the area in general. My 8 year old has already voted to return - to the area and the house.
This is definitely a place we would put in our VRBO 'return' list.

This is our third time back to stay at Shady Pines, and it did not disappoint! The hosts do an amazing job with personal touches, amenities, and thoughtfulness. It is a great location for any type of getaway—friends, family, etc. I know we’ll be back because we love it so much!

Our family stayed for Thanksgiving week. Everything was as shown on website. Cabin was spotless and ready on time. Kitchen was completely stocked with everything you need to cook and eat. The coffee bar was nice in the adjacent dining room from the kitchen. The managers let us know there was an electric roaster in the pantry and we cooked our turkey in it. Our daughters were really impressed with the quality of the towels and bedding. We had 6 people and there was plenty of bedrooms. We played games and puzzles on the long dining room table. We played ping pong and air hockey in the basement. We even enjoyed a record on the turn table. (Had to explain the concept to the teens as they had not seen a record player) we even made ice cream. Beautiful views from great room and deck. Hot tub worked great as did the WiFi. Managers were wonderful, answered all our questions and provided great directions to the cabin. Was a fabulous stay and we wholeheartedly recommend. We hope to book here again. Maybe in spring/summer next time.

Having stayed in many places around the country as well as the Caribbean, Central and South America, you have your ups and downs when scheduling a trip to an unknown place. Whether it’s location, the property itself, value/pricing, communication with owners, supplies on-hand or a combo of some/all of the aforementioned, some meet expectations while others fail. Rarely does one exceed on all fronts.
We can’t express just how great “The Shady Pine” experience was. My wife and I - and our 17 and 10 year old boys - were looking for just a short 4 night/5 day getaway in a “fall setting”. Not having stayed in Kentucky or Tennessee or the surrounding area in many years, we thought the kids would enjoy this section of the country. TSP (“The Shady Pine”) popped up on our search and looked like a nice place. Little did we know it would not only be a beautiful home away from home, but it was in an ideal setting with stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
It was furnished superbly with delicate taste, clean and stocked perfectly for our stay. Plenty of cookware, great WiFi (a must when so remote), a thoughtful welcome basket, great bedrooms, plenty of towels, etc. Even the coffee bar knocked our socks off; full complement of mugs, creamers and sweeteners (which were FACED by the way, talk about attention to detail).
Bottom line, Melissa & Mary are great hosts, and you know they care. Highly recommend.

We stayed at Shady Pine on Barren River for a small weekend getaway for a friend to celebrate her getting married in October. The cabin was beautiful inside and out! The rooms were amazing and the beds were so comfy! It was such a fun and cozy place. It felt like being in Gatlinburg without traveling very far! The cabin had everything you would need and activities, such a corn-hole boards, pingpong tables, and air hockey! They blankets for the fire were great and there was even a s’mores kit left for us. Also had little notes throughout the cabin explaining things. The list could go on for how amazing the stay was. I will definitely recommend this cabin and hope to stay again in the future! ☺️

The property was beautiful. The house was immaculate and had everything you would need. The owners were very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The house is a little off the beaten path, but perfect for our stay.

This is probably one of the most well appointed vacation homes we’ve ever stayed in! It’s beautifully decorated with tons of personality and charm. The owners go the extra mile to make your stay special. Our kids (ranging from 4-15) had fun in the game room every day. The adults loved hanging in the hot tub at night and listening to the cicadas. We visited Mammoth Cave, Barren River Lake State Park, and Dinosaur World during our trip. We’ll be back!

Absolutely wonderful experience. Plenty of things to do and plenty of extras in case we forgot anything. Pictures of the location doesn’t do it justice. Clean and better than advertised. Owner readily available with any questions. Will definitely come again.

Just spent a week with my grown family in this secluded, very comfortable and well stocked cabin (really a fully functional home) in southern Kentucky. Had a great time using this as a central base to visit the area - including a day in Nashville. The place is spacious, gorgeous and comes with everything you could possibly need - from a fully stocked kitchen, to all the necessary electronic gadgets including hi-speed internet as well as having plenty of towels, blankets and other incidentals. Beds are very comfortable, as is the living area seating. Loved having morning coffee reading a book on the deck while sitting in the hot tub listening to nature. Later ending the day in the game room downstairs with a game of ping pong - or sipping bourbon acquired from one of the visited distilleries as we played one of the many provided board games around the ginormous, live edge dining table. Really hated to say goodbye - had an awesome time staying here. I would add that the owners are super responsive and go out of their way to make you feel at home. Definitely a 5 star location and one everyone should strongly consider if you find yourself in the area.

I loved everything about The Shady Pine. My family and I enjoyed it so much that the day we checked out was bittersweet! The beds were comfortable- better than any hotel we could have stayed at. It was clean, beautifully prepared and designed. The attention to detail was amazing. All of the amenities are amazing. Melissa was always prompt with communication and any questions I had. She left a personalized note with the house manual when we arrived. We can’t wait to book our stay for next year and hope to start making the Shady Pine a family tradition!

The house was amazing, very clean, lots of space for our group. Owners were very easy to communicate with, provided tons of info for stuff to do locally along with detailed accommodations and house lists so we knew exactly what to bring with us (not much because the house had everything)! Would recommend The Shady Pine to anyone (and have)!

Where should I start…this cabin is by far the best we’ve ever stayed in. The location was awesome, best place to escape the hustle and bustle. Surrounded by tall trees, close access to the lake, the jacuzzi, outdoor sitting area and dinning and also the fire pit with chairs and blankets! There is even a guitar in the house!
The decor of the cabin is just perfect: cozy, warm, comfortable, with lots of small touch that makes the cabin so special.
Big table to eat inside and a very well stocked kitchen with a big fridge.
Washer and dryer, 2 bathrooms.
The bedrooms were awesome too, everyone of our family felt at home instantly.
Entertainment?more than you can wish for : lots of board games, and the basement: ping pong, air hockey, corn hole and an xbox, Nintendo and lots of dvd!
The wifi is great too, in case you don’t want to totally disconnect with the world.
And you can find tiny notes everywhere to explain this or that, very special touch.
Cherry on top, the owner gift us a s’more basket with marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate! What a thoughtful attention.

I loved staying in this house with my family and good friend. We had everything we needed to prepare great meals in the kitchen. Everyone loved gathering around the large dining table surrounded by windows and all appreciated the nice coffee bar with mini fridges, which we stocked full of adult beverages. The outdoor sitting areas were comfortable and relaxing, and we spent a great deal of time utilizing the areas. Although we didn't kayak, we did walk the stairs and walkway for exercise. Very nice, quiet neighborhood. 4 crazy women had so much fun playing Ping-Pong. One afternoon we rented a pontoon from Narrows Marina to venture out on the lake. It was a great time for everyone, and although the boat was very nice and comfortable we all jumped into the lake and floated around in the freshing summer pool.

We’ve stayed here twice and love this property! Beautiful scenery, well stocked kitchen, and lots of thoughtful little touches everywhere. Our kids love exploring in the woods and down by the water, and when they are tired of nature they love the game room downstairs.

This place is exactly like the pictures show! So beautifully decorated and very clean. They really think of everything! The beds are very comfortable and the kitchen has everything. The hot tub worked great!
So much fun playing ping pong and some video games. If I could have one suggestion I’d say maybe put some bean bags in the basement area for more space to sit. But that did not hinder any fun. I will definitely come back again and recommend this place.

Easy to find and check in, very nice high end bedding at least as good as We have at home was a nice surprise. Helpful notes explained the few things that needed them and things were right where you’d expect them

Beautiful cabin, fully stocked and all the amenities, very well kept and decorated. My family enjoyed the hot tub, walking down the boardwalk to the cove, and proximity to our tours. Perfect stay for visiting Mammoth Cave NP, Kentucky Down Under and the National Corvette Museum.

Another perfect stay at The Shady Pine. We just love this cabin. This was our second trip here and we will be back. I just love all the cozy spaces, the beautiful surroundings, etc. We love all the special touches like towels for the hot-tub, coffee bar, blankets for cuddling on the couch and blankets for the campfire. The basement was such a fun place to hang out too - especially for my preteen son who found the XBOX! Perfect spot for kids/teenagers.
We will be back!

We love this place so much! It’s our second time staying here because it’s so lovely. The hosts are super helpful, responsive, and thoughtful. This place has everything you need with so many really thoughtful touches. It’s a cabin, but they’ve made it so cozy and warm. We love walking around the area—it’s beautiful! We’re already thinking of our next trip to get back here!

Our group had 6 adults staying here, this was a wonderful cabin very clean and well thought out. They had everything that we needed and even gave ideas where to eat and where to get things from. You can stay active outside especially in summer months or you can relax all day inside in the winter months like we did.

We love coming here for Christmas. It’s a beautiful property with all the amenities you could think of. It’s very clean and cozy, with plenty of room for the whole family. Melissa was so kind to work with us, due to the snow coming in. I absolutely love coming here!

Gorgeous cabin in a scenic, quiet area with a couple other cabins on the path. Cabin was beautifully decorated and filled with all the amenities. Coffee bar was fully stocked, along with water. We made our Thanksgiving meal there and had no trouble, everything you need was there. Beds were more comfortable than my own at home. Bathrooms clean. Living room very comfortable and plenty of room for everyone. My kids loved all the games. Communication from owner was quick and very helpful. We arrived at night and definitely needed the extra tips she sent us on directions in addition to gps. Nothing negative about our stay. Book this cabin you won’t regret it!
