About this cottage rental
Originally a part of the Old House of Keys, the historic former home of Manx politics, Keys Cottage is one of a collection of listed buildings in an historic area of Castletown in the south of the Isle of Man. Beautifully refurbished to a high standard, guests can expect a luxurious experience.
The tasteful combination of modern features such as motorised Velux windows while original features like the exposed wooden beams ensures the retention of its heritage. Stylish furnishings bring it all together to provide a naturally homely feeling to this property.
Sleeping four across two double bedrooms, a double sofa bed can also be made up on request in the upstairs lobby area to allow the property to sleep 6 people. It's perfect for a small group to explore the south of the island. If part of a larger group, book with either Ellan Vannin or Packet House which are just around the corner.
The comfortable open plan living area contains a well-equipped kitchen that extends through to the living area, which benefits from natural light provided by the overhead windows and the added cosiness of a log burner.
Castletown is a great base for a holiday, just 5 minutes from the airport and with a wide range of bars, restaurants and cafes close by. The historic Steam Railway runs through the town connecting it with the islands capital, Douglas and the seaside villages of Port Erin and Port St Mary.

A delightful stay in this superbly appointed cottage opposite Castle Rushen. It met and exceeded all our expectations

We stayed in Keys cottage for the Southern 100. The cottage is in a great location in the village and is very close to all the shops and pubs. There's a lot of gadgets for the heating, blinds etc... so I hope your tech savvy. We managed to work them all so they're not that complicated.
Only request i have is that there are no toilet brushes in either loo. We also weren't informed there was building work going on next door so we couldn't use the back door as there was a scaffolding pole blocking the door from opening.
We'd definitely stay here again though.

Keys Cottage proved to be an excellent base from which to explore the island. It was well equipped, comfortable and easy to live in. The welcome pack and luxury toiletries added an extra dimension and were much appreciated.
We struggled a bit during the day with the bright sun shining through the windows in the ceiling in the lounge area and would have appreciated blinds there, as well as at the window on the landing at the base of the second staircase and in the lower bathroom. These points, however, were not serious enough to spoil anything; they are merely recommendations for further improvement.
We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the cottage to others.

This was an amazing place to stay. We came over with elderly parents who can still use stairs. So this was not an issue. Everything you need is in the cottage. Location is great and quiet and reserved parking (non busy season) was always available and easy to get to. If stairs are an issue then this is not the right property for you. Beds very comfortable, showers amazing and all you need in the kitchen. TV was an issue as kept stopping. Coffee machine and milk, bread, cheese etc left for when you first get there.

After a rather rough ferry crossing we arrived into Keys Cottage. What an absolute treat. The property is furnished to a really high standard, laid out well with everything you might need, and was clean and ready for our stay. Really enjoyed meeting some of the friendly staff in the Island Escapes office which is just around the corner from the cottage. I would thoroughly recommend a stay in the wonderful cottage.

The property is located in a great place which gives you access to all of the Island via public transport. The accommodation was excellent. Well equipped with everything you need and very clean. I would highly recommend it.

By far the best holiday accommodation we’ve ever stayed in. The house interior has a really high end finish, every aspect has been thoroughly thought through. The beds were extremely comfortable and the living space is great. We instantly felt relaxed inside the house. The location is also lovely, we ate in the George pub and had a game of table tennis and played out in the square with our son. I had to pop into the Island Escapes office for something and they were super friendly and very accommodating. All in all an absolutely perfect stay for our short break, we will definitely be coming back

Our family knew we were in for a memorable stay when we arrived at Keys Cottage. The cottage exuded warmth, comfort, and a charming nostalgia that immediately won us over. As a family of four, including two adults and two children, we found the accommodation spacious and cosy.
The attention to detail at Keys Cottage was impressive. Every nook and cranny had been thoughtfully planned to ensure a hassle-free stay for guests, from the carefully curated decor to the well-appointed amenities. After our exciting adventures each day, we looked forward to returning to the cottage, which felt like our home away from home.
One of the highlights of our stay was the unbeatable central location of Keys Cottage. Everything we wanted to explore was within easy reach, making our adventures even more enjoyable. We were lucky enough to be in town during the Castletown Confetti Festival, an incredible experience for our children. The air was full of excitement, laughter, and vibrant colours as confetti filled the sky.
We also loved that Castle Rushen was just a stone's throw away from our doorstep. We enjoyed wandering through the historic corridors, soaking up the stories of the past. It felt like we had travelled back in time, and our children were thrilled by the experience.
Overall, our stay at Keys Cottage was genuinely magical. It offered the perfect combination of comfort, convenience, and cultural charm. Suppose you're considering a family trip to Castletown. In that case, we highly recommend Keys Cottage for an authentic and delightful experience. We can't wait to return!

We really enjoyed our stay at this a very spacious and comfortable cottage. The fittings and equipment are very modern and top quality. Best of all is the location right in the centre of Castletown. All the facilities of the town are only a short walk away. The railway station was a bit further. The available parking spaces are very close by. The Island Escapes team were really helpful during our stay.

A very pleasurable stay in Keys Cottage. Clearly recently renovated and everything clean & tidy and working well. Would suggest minor grouting issues in top floor bathroom shower are dealt with sooner rather than later.

Beautiful property 2 minutes walk from cafes, pubs and restaurants. Bus stop around the corner, free car park almost on back door step. High spec fixtures, furnishings and essentials. Welcome basics much appreciated. Couldn’t be better and would certainly stay again.

Had a great time, thanks to all. Cottage is lovely. Well appointed with quality linen, duvets, mattresses, sheets etc which makes a huge difference.
The courtyard lets it down in appearance, the gate needs fixing and the cottage looks a little tired externally but overall we were delighted with it.
Thanks to Island Escapes for helping us with extending our departure time and for being so attentive.
We will be back and probably to Keys Cottage. We loved Castletown as a location.

This cottage immaculately presented and is equipped to a very high standard.
All appliances are high spec and very good quality.
I would say that some form of "idiots guide" be provided for the less tech-savy.
Only used the bedroom on the top floor, bed was huge and mega comfy.
Cottage is very close to the sea, you can hear the waves, at night, with the loft windows open.
Parking Pass is provided for carpark at rear of property. Ideal for bringing luggage in via back door
Short walk to shops, coffee shop and a traditional boozer.
Castle Rushen is 2 minutes away and is a must to visit.
Locating the carpark was a little problematic due to some road closures in the town centre.

I rented Keys Cottage for a visit by two Portuguese friends. They were extremely pleased with the property, and commented that they could have believed they were the first occupants, such was the standard of cleanliness and the quality of the fittings.

Keys Cottage had everything needed for a comfortable stay. All appliances and furniture are of a high standard and cleanliness is excellent. Castletown is an ideal base for exploring the island and has a decent choice of pubs and restaurants for its size. All in all a great week away from home!

This is without a doubt one of the nicest cottages (house really) we’ve stayed in, and in a fantastic, historical & beautiful location. Recommend it very highly!

Perfect location for watching the Southern 100 Motorcycle races
This is our 3rd time using Island Escapes and as before we were not disappointed, the house was as new in a fantastic location in central Castletown, perfect for what we wanted. The house was as described and the pre arrival communication from IE was good.
A couple of things that can be easily rectified hence condition score of 4 not 5. The dishwasher door would not open properly due to poor fitting it catches on the base unit, which was already broken by others having to force the door open. The second floor wet room certainly was a ‘wet’ room when showering, the water doesn't drain away quick enough so the floor floods, so you have to make sure everything you want to keep dry is outside, You need to dry the floor with towels after a shower.
There is a lot of renovation work going on around the property, all the workmen were friendly and courteous but there was a lot of works vehicles directly outside the property during our stay so privacy was not great, we kept the front blinds closed because of this, also their workday started around 8am so any chance of a lie wasn't possible. Not the workman’s fault but maybe should have been highlighted by Island Escapes.
Had to log into the TV using our amazon prime account as in previous properties, not a major issue but could be better.

Fortnight of a Lifetime
We selected this property because it was a wonderfully updated renovation of a historic building in the heart of Castletown. It was everything we dreamed it would be a more! Very clean, comfortable and spacious for three people for a fortnight. It was truly the trip of a lifetime.

High spec, recently renovated cottage in a great location.
High spec, recently renovated cottage in a great location.
We stayed last year and were pleased to see that one of our suggested improvements had been carried out (blinds on small windows in 2nd floor bedroom). Thank you!
Convenient for everything in Castletown. Easy parking.
Well equipped kitchen. Nice log burner. Comfortable beds. Good bathrooms.
4 seats rather than 2 near the log burner would be good. The heating system is so complicated that it can be difficult to control - simpler probably better in a rental cottage.
We loved the cottage and would be very happy to return. Recommended!

Comfortable and spotless town house
Very clean, comfortable spacious house in the center of Castletown. Inbetween the sea and the castle, close to shops, cafès and public transport.
We particularly liked the fully equipped kitchen, the fireplace and the warm floors in the modern bathrooms.
The only minor flaw is that there is no bin for recycleable waste.

Visit 29 April - 6 May
The accommodation was very much to our liking and fulfilled everything we needed.
The cottage is well equipped throughout and is ideally located to the town of Castletown with very good restaurants close by or close in proximity to outer restaurants in Gansey and Peel.
It was not easy to navigate given road closures in and around the cottage on Parliament Square but having worked around these once it became easy to circumnavigate.
We would certainly recommend the cottage and look forward to staying once again in the Autumn.

Cannot praise this place enough
I was rather jealous, having booked this place for my friends to stay in while I stayed around the corner, although my place was also magnificent. The central seating area/dining room/breakfast bar was ideal for entertaining and keeping the cook involved while they made dinner. The rooms were spectacular and the flexibility of the first floor pull out bed came in handy when we needed a few extra days with an extra person before the group descended. Island Escapes also kindly tacked that extra time on to my existing booking to keep the price down, a much appreciated adjustment that they made with absolutely no fuss.
All in all, it was beautifully presented, wonderfully located (if the wind bothers you, Keys Cottage was about 20m from the seafront and huddled amongst some other houses so the storms didn't seem to be particularly audible from there) and ideal for entertaining.

A beautifully fitted out property with a few niggles.
This property had been repurposed and furnished to a very high standard. The facilities are cutting edge -
the drawback being that your average punter had difficulty in knowing how to operate them. I encountered problems in two areas:
1.The heating was too complicated for me to manage. On the first night I was cold and had to warp myself in a duvet to watch tv. I sought help and John came out to help the next day but even so I never fully mastered the system - multi zones, each with its own controls etc. . More information could be given in the handbook. For instance a simple statement such as: ''The ground floor heating is under floor' would have helped. In the absence of radiators I assumed that I was reliant on the solid fuel stove. I found the small instruction card on operating the various heating controls difficult to follow.
2. Similarly I had difficulty operating the hob. Another statement in the hand book stating 'This is an induction hob and will only operate with pans in place' might have unravelled the mystery of why it failed to operate.
3. A third point is unrelated to technology. To provide privacy I would have appreciated some net curtains on the first floor bedroom windows and also on the street side window on the first landing. They were provided on windows on the rear of the house, why not at the front?
I would recommend this property to others with the caveat that my suggestions are acted upon.

Not a great stay
First impression was impressive, good solid refurbishment. But, for luxury accommodation it was missing a few accessories, for example no shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom, and no hairdryer these are usual standard items in any accommodation house. The weekend that we stayed was a bitterly cold weekend and the downstairs lounge was freezing, the gale that was blowing through the closed back door was unbearable, the curtains were blowing in the air. The heating thermostat was reading mostly 12 -13 degrees, there weren't any radiators in the downstairs area at all. There was a log heater at the other end of the room, no logs provided, we bought a bag of logs which warmed the kitchen/dining area but didn't stretch to the seating area at the rear. We ended up watching TV with the bed covers wrapped around us. Having stayed last year in a similar refurbished cottage which was excellent, with a beautiful outlook overlooking the harbour, we decided to try another luxury cottage this year, but very dissappointed with our stay this time.

Very attractive cottage in a brilliant location. Restaurants in easy walking distance and a parking permit for the convenient car park was provided along with a welcome pack of essentials.

Wonderful
We had 4 nights here, right in the centre of Castletown, a great location. We are 2 couples, there is plenty of room, the bedrooms and bathrooms are very comfortable. This is a very well appointed house, everything is perfect, high end quality. The kitchen has everything and more. Parking is at the back of the building, no problem at all. All in all a great place to stay. AAA+

We loved the situation of Keys Cottage, close to the sea and facilities in Castletown.Parking was easy. There is a permit provided for the car park at the rear of the house and accessible from the back door. The downstairs kitchen/lounge/diner was stylish and worked very well. Useful to have a utility room with washer dryer.1st floor bedroom has a comfortable king-size bed and a shower room across the landing.Top floor bedroom is huge with superking bed and ensuite shower room. The lower windows do not have curtains, so we ended up blocking the light out with bags and spare pillows. This needs sorting out.Would stay again.

Perfect Staycation!
I’ve recently spent an amazing few days at the lovely Keys Cottage in Castletown with family and had a great time. The cottage is homely, extremely clean and provides everything you could possibly need. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in Castletown it is a great location with bus routes, train station, shops, pubs, cafes/restaurants and attractions on your doorstep.

Lovely smart clean cottage, very convenient for the village.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and all the cottage furnishings were excellent quality and we had everything we needed. The South of the Island has so much to offer, it is a perfect base.
Our only comment is that the mattress was not very comfortable, the pillows too soft, and the bedding was too hot. Lower tog bedding with a blanket available would be better. Of course, this is just our preference!

Outstanding stay at Keys Cottage Castletown
Fabulous cottage, high quality accommodation and incredibly high spec premises. Highly recommended! All bed linen, towels, toiletries are the white company . All appliances and equipment is John Lewis and it has all the mod cons. Netflix, automatic Blinds, auto closing roof windows if it rains! A dyson hoover and hand held version. Quality throughout and very spacious.
