About this cottage rental
Our bedrooms have been individually designed to retain all the rustic vibes of the castle while still spoiling guests with the comforts of luxurious modern living. Large lush beds, 400 thread count linen, huge oversized rain showers and free standing baths.
Kilmartin Castle was built in 1550 for John Carswell, the Rector of Kilmartin, later Bishop of the Isles. It was held by the Campbell Clan, then abandoned for 200 years. Now, a luxury retreat for walkers, history lovers, couples, families & friends who enjoy discovering unique places to stay.
Guests say 'We wish we had stayed longer.'
An authentic castle retreat, welcoming and warm, rustic and honest. The castle walls and floors have been deliberately left with their original aged patina. Interiors are a mix of antique furniture and original artworks and objects that we have lovingly collected over time. The kitchen is well equipped with two Bosch ovens, Neff induction hob, fridge freezer and a dishwasher so no-one has to draw the short straw there. The dining room sits 8-10 guests and the grand hall is a fabulous place to gather around the fire. A HD projectpr allows you to pull down a hidden screen and enjoy a movie together. The whisky snug is an excellent place to sneak off to with a good read. All five en suite bedrooms have been individually designed including wood burning stoves, extravagant walk in showers, roll top copper baths and luxury bedding.
Our gardens have been recently landsacped to include a raised lawn, orchard, sunken fire-pit, dining table and sitting area with wood buring stove. The outdoor kitchen is full equipped with crockery, cutlery and sink with hot running water. There is a large Kamado Joe, a BBQ and a pizza oven. We grow our own organic fruits, herbs and vegetables at the castle which you are welcome to enjoy. We also have a wild swimming pond which is fantastic on a sunny day. A stone shed has become outside toilets, complete with wood burner. In early 2023 we will be building a glasshouse which will become a dining room in the garden providing shelter should there be a Scottish rain shower whilst you are barbecueing.

The castle was beautiful and very comfortable. Ali did a fantastic job of cooking for us and taking care of all of us for the three days.

We hired the whole place for 3 nights for us and our family for our tiny wedding. The castle was perfect, warm and cosy, comfy beds, beautiful rooms, very well appointed and lovely gardens with gorgeous views over the Glen where we had our ceremony. The castle is even better in real life, with lots of little nooks and quirky details that make it special and unique.
We used the recommended photographer, chef and celebrant who were also all fantastic. All in all - better than we could imagine!

A real pleasure spending two nights in this character-filled structure. Enough old to let you know it's steeped in age, and all of the luxuries of a high end hotel. Plus real soul, not just decorated. Love our stay here.

We had an excellent stay at Kilmartin Castle, it was a unique experience. We felt very welcomed and our guests were enchanted by the castle experience. The interior design is of good taste and greatly contributed to the positive experience. We never were cold, despite the really poor weather we sometimes had. There are also plenty of beautiful places that are easily reached from Kilmartin, as well as nearby groceryshops, which makes Kilmartin a convenient location.
