convenient location with large clean house
6.0 / 10.0
The views are perfect for both sunrises and sunsets. Very roomy gazebo for gatherings. Rooms, furniture and dining table in the house were large and spacious. Perfect house for large groups with various ages. Elevator was very convenient. Kitchen has 2 refrigerators and 2 dishwashers which was well used with our party of 14. Several maintenance issues were reported - no propane for grill, no internet until 3rd day, both hot tub and dishwasher stopped working due to filters needing attention. Response from Guest service usually quick but they expected the guests to fix the issues before sending someone out. Overall good time and memories were made.

The size and comfort of the home was apparent from the start. The home was very clean and with a well stocked kitchen and plenty of room to spread out or congregate in the kitchen . All we had to do was buy groceries!. There beds and linens were clean and comfortable. The view was the best! I intend to try and be a repeat customer as often as we can in the future when planning a get-away with the family.

Location at Hatteras. Nice House. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for 10 people. Elevator was a lifesaver. Downstairs heat either did not work or we could not figure out. Fireplace did not work. No instructions.

5 Knots provides a huge house with a great floor plan with plenty of space for a large group. By far the highlight of this house is location, location, location!! The sound front property provides stunning views...with spectacular sunrise and sunset photo ops. Aside from a few minor housekeeping/maintenance issues this beach house provided a wonderful stay for our beach getaway!

The Sound view is fantastic. The fenced yard, which was secure, was loved by my dog. North Carolina has a new law concerning elevator doors so this house's elevator is currently out of commission, which is a huge loss. Overall, though, we love the house. It is roomy and has a well-stocked kitchen. We rented this house 6 or 7 years ago and it was clear in this February, 2023 stay that the owner has kept the property up. Since our previous stay we noted that the owner has installed 2 new washer/dryer sets, 2 new wall ovens, 2 new dishwashers, and new flooring. The owner also replaced concrete that was previously cracked. The hot tub was moved from the ground floor to the second floor in a much nicer location. The house was super-clean and all beds were made and towels were supplied. This was our first experience with Vacasa and we were impressed with the company. The cleaning fee is high ($350 this week) but the dog fee was very reasonable. We would happily rent this house again.

The view and the number of master bedrooms

Best parts of this rental are the location and view - that is all. Excellent sound views, the tiki style structure at the end of the pier is fantastic for fishing or just relaxing, love the proximity to the marina for lots of boat watching, and the Pamlico Sound sunsets of NEVER disappoint. Unfortunately, this house has not been properly maintained and the Vacasa cleaning staff need serious lessons in how to properly clean a house. Of all the Hatteras homes we’ve rented every single summer for years, this was by far the worst yet it was the most expensive we’ve paid for since we had many family members with us and two family dogs. I’m also not a picky person! But when you walk in and find toothpaste still on the bathroom mirror, a broken chair stacked up in the corner of the dining area and then learn that NEITHER of the double ovens close properly to even use them for family meals, I was pretty disgusted.

The house has wonderful amenities for all to enjoy. It was clean, comfortable and had more than enough space for people to hang out around the house. Fenced are for the dogs, pet bags in the community, instant sound access and gorgeous sunsets. The area was very quaint with an easy bike ride to the beach, markets and general store. There were several house maintenance issues that were minor but could be addressed to provide a better guest experience ( broken: chairs, toilet paper holders and ice machine, closed gap in the fence, fix outdoor shower door, pest control-small ants a few roaches but not uncommon on the island but house was clean). Bring bug spray-mosquitos are bad if there is no breeze. Value lies in the space, amenities, sound access, area and overall home is nice but needs maintenance.

House is in need of repairs and updates, carpet stains, furniture is stained or torn, pool lounge chairs dry rotted out, lamp shade torn off support, upstairs washer very dirty, oven door broken. ect. ect. Certainly not worth what you pay

The house was big, the view outstanding, the elevator a life saver.

There were a couple issues with the house (not the fault of Vacasa/or the owners but the renters who do not report the problems) so each time I called Vacasa/Hatteras Island Realty with a problem the person who I spoke with were very attentive, and had our issues resolved. There customer service skills were amazing. We had another memorable vacation !!!

What a gorgeous home with gorgeous views! Pool pad was great too with some grassy areas. There’s 2 washers and dryers! Plenty of kitchen space and space to call your own if you aren’t feeling social. It needs some updated work (lights, pool umbrella broke, broken door, curtain rods- to name a few) but overall a really great home.

We loved the location, pool and elevator. Disappointed in the extremely poor clothes dryers and washers. Easily 80 degrees upstairs in the PM. Oven doors would not close completely. Basic maintenance has largely been ignored.

You won't be disappointed. Love where it has a boat dock, walking distance to stores and bait shop

Great place!
We have been vacationing in the Outer Banks several times a year for the last 15 years. We have stayed in some really great houses, from Hatteras up to Waves. This is definitely one of our favorites! The house is well maintained, has a great layout for large groups, and is in a great location. We will definitely stay here again!

5 Knots stay
The house & location were both wonderful. A little lacking in parking though for so many bedrooms. Oh well. The gazebo was also a big hit!

Lovely location
The location is perfect! For the amount of money you have to pay to rent this home it needs lots of work. Some things that needed repair were still the same as the year before

Beautiful sunset view from the back deck, nice deck chairs, and lots of activity to watch in the sound. The neighborhood was peaceful and quiet, and we liked being able to walk across the boardwalk and cross Hwy 12 to be at the ocean. Other than that, the house was unfortunately a disappointment. Most of the recessed lights were burned out, the upstairs ice maker was not working (and had black mold inside!), some screen doors were torn, (making them useless). Some living room furniture was stained/worn, and one dining room chair was broken. Most sliding glass doors were very difficult to slide open, thankfully we had some WD-40 in our truck which helped. We enjoyed playing pool in the basement, but some of the accessories were broken. The pool was nice, and had plenty of chairs around it for laying in the sun, but the pool skimmer had holes in it and the pool ladder was MIA, just holes in the cement where it should be. We had our dog with us, and were excited about the fenced in back yard but quickly found out a big hole in the back near the edge of the fence which we had to try and conceal by laying pool chairs around. (Thankfully we didn’t have small kids with us!). The walkway out to the gazebo had lights, which didn’t work. A day into our stay a maintenance person came and installed a new microwave, (we assume it had been reported by a previous guest, as we hadn’t yet used it so didn’t know it was broken). Hatteras Realty: your cleaning crew did an extremely poor job, even though it took them “extra” time, and we couldn’t get in the house till 5:30. Our basket of “starter supplies” consisted of lots of powdered laundry detergent, a half used bottle of dish soap and a half used bottle of hand soap. There were drinking glass rings on the glass top coffee table, popcorn kernels still under the table in the living room, mold on a shower curtain, trash on the floor in one of the closets and a previous guests clothes still in one bedroom drawer (we left them right where we found them). I don’t feel like normal cleaning expectations were meet, much less their “COVID-19 cleaning protocols”. Homeowners: please do some much needed maintenance! At the same time, add some small trash cans to each room (we had shopping bags hanging from knobs for trash), and put in some towel rods/hooks in the master bath. We all felt like this has the potential to be a beautiful home if someone gave it some proper attention, but for the price, there is no way we would choose this home again.

Great rental for groups
Pool area was wonderful. We had plenty of living space and bedrooms for our entire group, never felt cramped. Location is amazing too, with being able to take the walkway to the shops at Hatteras Village.
