About this house rental

Midholm Chapel is a characterful former church hall and historic local landmark. Originally built c1880, it has been lovingly converted to provide a bright, contemporary living space with all the home comforts you could wish for.

The Chapel is walking distance to the charming fishing port of Brixham, with easy access to the South Coast Path and a number of secluded coves and beaches. The delights of Dartmouth and Torbay are a short drive away.

The Chapel has a quirky 'upside down' layout with a double height entrance hallway, 3 bedrooms (1 en-suite), a family bathroom and garden room on the ground floor, and a sociable, open-plan first floor space which is flooded with light from the original chapel windows. The private courtyard garden is a sun trap in the afternoon (great for BBQs) and there is bench in the front courtyard which provides the perfect spot to watch the world go by.

Upon arrival the chapel stands out, towering above the road, it’s an utterly gorgeous building. Check in was so easy as was check out. A truly beautiful space inside and outside. The space really suited us as a family of 4 (kids ages 13 & 3) as we each had a bedroom and our teenager had the snug space upstairs and loved it. There were a few niggles however, including, that we just didn’t feel the cleanliness was of the standard of a place where you are spending quite a bit per night. There were many cobwebs around and we found rubbish and old socks under one of the sofas in the snug. The table cloth I’m not sure had been wiped between guests and my daughter’s white socks came off black after running around for the afternoon! Not sure the dishwasher is working 100% either as most things needed a wash upon getting them from the cupboards. We noticed that there were no cupboards for putting our food in so it just sat on the worktop. Sadly we couldn’t open the conservatory door as the smell of damp was just so strong! Cleanliness aside, the building itself is lovely but maybe could just do with a really good spring clean!

All was excellent, and comfortable. Very impressed with the layout, rooms, furnishings, fixtures and fittings. Some minor items (En suite WC leaks, and a broken drawer) need repair. We will return!

We had a lovely time
We had a lovely time
It was a lovely house and we stayed there for 5days. The location was good that we've walked to town a couple of times (took around 15mins). There is SPAR supermarket, a local pub, Chinese & Indian takeaway nearby. We were lucky to park opposite the hse for a couple of days then we parked at the road behind the hse afterward so it was ok. We were a group of 9 people so it was a bit of strech as 2 sofa beds upstairs in the snug wasn't an enclosed room (so no privacy and not as comfortable). And I would suggest it may need a bit of cleaning of the sofabed cushions, when opened there were quite a lots of dog hairs and same as the turquoise carpet. The house was lovely and warm and cosy with loads of hot water for showers even with 9 people. The three toilets came in useful. All in all Brixham was a great town to visit and it was a lovely property and a very enjoyable place to Stay.
