Had a chance to stay longer this time. As before, Sugarbush exceeded our expectations. It’s a great place to relax and unwind and it’s also a great starting point to visit wineries, waterfalls, great restaurants, the pool, and the golf course. Already planning our next trip.

This place is beautiful. It is well equipped with everything you could possibly need as well as things you didn’t know you needed. The furnishings are gorgeous. Great porches for relaxing. Comfy beds. Convenient location to Highlands in one direction and Clayton in the other. Highly recommend!

Sugarbush Shalet was wonderful! From the moment we walked it, we felt welcomed. The lights were on, the electric fireplace was burning, a welcome basket was waiting for us, soft music was playing, and the whole place smelled like cinnamon.
Everything felt very clean and organized. It was as clean as we would keep our own home. It was obvious that Karen and John take pride in their cabin. The kitchen was fully stocked (I think there were 7 or 8 cutting boards alone!) and we found everything we needed. There was even a welcome binder that had tips and how-to instructions for everything in the cabin, in the resort, and in the area.
Bonus features of the house that we really enjoyed: a saltwater hot tub (so nice and it didn't burn our skin), a billiards table, a guitar, a full-body massage chair, propane fire pits on both the front porch and the covered side porch by the jacuzzi, and a golf cart to ride around the resort.
Also, the place felt very private, up high among the trees. It was a natural respite from our busy lives. Very relaxing and homey.
I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but the whole experience was enjoyable and easy. We would definitely recommend this place!

I cannot say enough about our stay at Sugarbush Shalet! It was so much more than we expected. Karen is an exemplary host and has anticipated any need a guest would have. The welcome basket was so sweet! The house is beautifully decorated and so comfortable and cozy. The covered porch is the perfect place for enjoying the sounds of nature. It’s truly one of the most relaxing vacations we’ve had. Our only regret is that we didn’t book the stay for longer. We cannot wait to book our next stay!

My husband and I recently stayed at Sugarbush Shalet for our 20th anniversary. The location is idyllic, the home is beautiful, and all of the extra touches inside and out make this a perfect tranquil retreat. It is also a great base from which to explore the beautiful mountains of GA and NC. Karen and John are wonderful hosts. They were very helpful and quick to respond to questions, and offered great restaurant recommendations. We had such a lovely time we are already looking forward to when we can return.

Sugarbush Shalet is the most PERFECT place ever!!! Seriously, it is that amazing! My girlfriends and I have been gathering, every year, for over 30 years and we all agreed that we finally have found our perfect spot! From the moment you walk through the door, relaxation engulfs you with the soft glow of the fireplace (no heat, flame only), gentle spa music playing, and the cutest gift basket of goodies to kick start your stay. Just try to find one thing wrong with this place and you can’t; it really is that excellent. The back patio is the perfect oasis to unwind. The kitchen is fully equipped with just about everything you need, even every size charcutier board you can imagine. The Beds, the Showers, the Cleanliness, the Décor….ALL OUTSTANDING! Each day we would discover something new about the place and just gush over its awesomeness. I could go on and on detailing every room but go see it for yourself and experience whatever VRBO should be like, truly perfection! Karen is a delightful host, with great recommendations, and we are counting down the days to our return!

10/10. This place has everything that makes it feel like a home. The interior is so beautiful. The landscape makes you feel like you live in a hidden fairy house! So many ways to relax from the huge high end hot tub to the cozy wood burning fire pit. This is the best VRBO we have ever stayed in. Already planning our return trip!

We spent 4 wonderful nights in March 2024. Everything was squeaky clean, inside and out. The welcome basket full of snacks and beverages was a wonderful surprise and reflects the owners attention to detail. The Sugarbush Chalet is a beautifully decorated cabin full of southern charm. We hope to be back very soon.

This was our first experience with VRBO and won't be our last. This home was absolutely incredible and the check-in process and amenities were unbeatable. We had quite a bit of family in Sky Valley during our stay - and everyone certainly thought our rental was the most gorgeous and most fun! Can't beat a pool table, hot tub, and massage chair, on-top of a simply beautiful home in a prime location. Will hope to stay here again in a future year's Christmas visit to the area!

Me and my GF were just overwhelmed with how nice this place was. Cleaner than expected. So cozy and perfect. They even had it decorated for Christmas. had a white noise machine in the bedroom and a Alexa, that operated the fireplace and some lights. Will definitely come back. Location is perfect if you like going into highlands for shopping and dinner.

We had a wonderful stay at this amazing home! Upon arrival, we found a lovely basket filled with goodies. Our son played golf several times and loved the course. We enjoyed all the amenities this home offered, especially the hot tub which was superb. Evenings sitting by one of multiple fireplaces was šo relaxing. Friday night out in Highlands (a short beautiful drive away) was very enjoyable - listening to Cy Timmons at the Old Edwards Inn followed by dinner at Paoletti’s never disappoints. I’ve been vacationing in this area for 45 years and this is one of the (if not the) nicest homes we’ve ever stayed.

This was a such a charming and cozy stay! We came here for our mini-moon, and it was the PERFECT choice. The location was phenomenal, and the property has been thoughtfully designed and maintained. It’s one of those places that you walk into and immediate know that you’ll have to come again.

The owners have thought of everything that will make your stay the best possible! The place is beautifully decorated, comfortable, very clean, and full of surprises! We embarked on some gorgeous hikes with the most breathtaking changing of leaves colors at (Muddy Creek Falls and Glen Falls) and really enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub afterwards. We also had a blast playing pool! I really enjoyed the rocking chairs out front as that was my go-to with my coffee each morning. We will definitely be back! Thank you, Karen & John, for the thoughtful gift basket full of goodies and great communication throughout our stay! You have a gem!

Great time !
The only problem we had was the back porch fire place ran out of gas and we found the other tak but couldn’t get the top off. But that was on the last night so wasn’t to bad.

One of the most charming and well appointed VRBO's we have visited. The Longs are wonderful hosts, always a prompt response. We needed to modify our plans several times, and they were always flexible and pleasant. We loved the covered space with the best hot tub ever. The beds were so comfortable. We are golfers and the generous gift basket was greatly appreciated. Everything worked as it should.

The 5-star reviews for this gem were all spot on! We loved our stay and appreciate the little things the owners did to make our stay (and their home) so special. We will 100% be back, next time with friends. Lots to do within a short drive, but staying in and just relaxing was equally wonderful. All VRBO experiences should be this good. The hosts did not miss a beat at this place!! From the numerous wonderful seating areas outside to the decor and amenities and thoughtful extras inside, this place had it all!! Upon walking inside, there was a great, unexpected welcome basket, filled with all sorts of goodies! Another nice touch. We really enjoyed taking the golf cart all around the neighborhood! While doing so, we came across a hidden gem of a beautiful waterfall and a great hiking trail. Would definitely recommend taking the drive down there to check it out! The location is really ideal too. You are way up in the mountains yet only 15-25 min from 3 different cities where you can find just about anything you need or want! I would say Karen n John have been the most gracious hosts we’ve had the pleasure of staying with!! Would highly recommend staying here for sure! You wont be disappointed! We will definitely be back!! ♥️

This property was absolutely wonderful. All the amenities were top of the line and had everything you would need for comfort and enjoyment. They really work hard to make your stay just like home. It was very clean and well taken care of. Highly recommend this beautiful chalet.

Karen and John have thought of everything. This was the perfect getaway to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The home comfortable and has everything you could need. Karen has done a beautiful job decorating the place. There is plenty of room for 2 couples. The outdoor spaces are great for relaxing with your morning coffee or evening glass of wine.

We loved how cozy this place was. Perfect size for us 2, or if we had brought another couple w us. Very comfortable and welcoming. Great location for nearby towns, hiking, and 2 minutes from Sky Valley golf course. This was our 2nd trip to Sky Valley, which we really enjoy. Would definitely stay here again. We did not take advantage of the jacuzzi given we were out hiking or golfing most every day, but if/when back here again, will make a point to try it out.
