Absolutely loved our stay at the National Exchange in Nevada City. Fabulous room and patio area. Clean. Great facilities. Great staff.

Whats not to like.. My wife and I loved the Kings Suite! The room was perfect! We loved the interior decor through out the entire hotel. The restaurant and bar was awesome as well. We give it a 10 out of 10!
No complaints whatsoever!

Pros: Perfect downtown location and such a vibe! Dog friendly, adorable lounge area with free coffee, tea and breakfast in the morning. Would absolutely stay again.
Cons: While it’s a beautiful historical building, the sink was kinda clogged (old pipes) and there was a lot of dust - I get the charm piece, but when there’s cob webs on the light fixtures, it’s really more of a lack of cleaning/maintaining. I was fine, but someone with allergies might want to stay elsewhere.

Great location! Staff did not share information. We only got info because we asked. Had to wait a significant time to check in and out. Could not give an accurate receipt when checking out. The room was so small our carry on had no place to stay. Had an ice bucket but had no instructions on where to get the ice.
More helpful staff. Clear written instructions on where to find things and restaurants and their availability. Also parking was very limited.

hotel was amazing. great location

My wife and I loved the location, the service was great and the staff were helpful and understanding when strange situations arose like there was no parking in the lot and we alerted the desk clerk and she told us about a spot that was opening right at that moment. Plus, the retro Victorian decor was thrilling and we kept searching for ghosts.
The rooms were a little cramped for my taste, plus I like to watch the news, but with no televisions in any of the rooms, the provided retro Victrola radio helped me catch up on local news. It would have been appreciated if we were alerted about that fact beforehand.

Old world but modernised - gorgeous property with friendly staff
Long wait for cake in the morning !

The hotel is lovely. The balcony in the evening was charming.
The complimentary coffee setup in the $500 room is terrible. And the complimentary brewed coffee on the 2nd floor wasn’t much better. The shower had little pressure and kind of like using a weak garden hose. The hike to the third floor rooms is quite daunting with luggage and our violins

they were amazing the little anniversary surprise was fabulous!

It was a perfect mix of modern and antique. The shower was heavenly. We loved the decor and attention to detail.
The walls are thin, you can hear all of the hallway foot traffic.

breakfast was a disappointment. Coffee was lukewarm and the muffins weren't ready, though we arrived about 45 minutes after the opening time. Muffins were undercooked. Location was great. Fruit was good.
What I stated above....the service was very slow, the muffins we waited for so long arrived undercooked and the coffee was lukewarm, though we were there fairly early. The host in the breakfast area was polite and sort of friendly....they need to work on their breakfast service!

Our two-night stay at the National Exchange was divine! It was like staying at a friend's house! The rooms were so beautifully decorated and comfortable. We had a room with a clawfoot tub, and it was so relaxing after a day of hiking and exploring the area! In the morning, they provided a fresh and light breakfast of yogurt and strawberries, hard-boiled eggs, and delicious coffee in their grand lounge on the second floor; so stunning! At night the hotel was quiet and relaxing. There is a great restaurant downstairs, but we ate out both nights; when we return, we will eat at the restaurant!
No T.V., but it did not ruin our stay one bit! It felt good to be unplugged :)

We loved that the gold rush era hotel has been beautifully restored to its original glory, but with modern updates. Our room was very clean and comfortable and there was a nice continental breakfast included with some of the best granola I have ever tasted. It is right on the main street, so the whole downtown shopping district is right outside your door.
Everything was fine.

The hotel’s recent remodel is beautiful. I loved all the vintage details that were a part of it. The included breakfast was delicious.

This is a classic gold rush-era hotel that is restored to a nice standard. It is located in the heart of everything in Nevada City. Staff was friendly and the large balcony overlooking the main street of town was a great place to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning or evening. The room itself was a little small but well appointed with a comfortable bed and nice chair to sit in. The bathroom has a nice shower and was very clean. Breakfast was delicious and the breakfast area is nice. I really don't know why anyone would stay at a different hotel in Nevada City.
Not having an elevator might be a challenge if you stayed on the 3rd floor. Parking (which is free) can be a little tight if you use your car.
