Italy’s greatest lake, without a doubt, is Lago di Como. And with little wonder. Even before a certain George Clooney made it a superstar destination, its spring climate, water that ripples like silk, spectacular architecture and medieval cobbled-street towns have always been popular. So much so that it can be hard to find somewhere to escape the hubbub. But tucked away in Como, on the southern shores of the lake, waits this historic coach house apartment. It is a gloriously rustic oasis, with exposed stone walls and ancient wooden beams in the ceiling that add character. The styling of the home is simple and elegant – white walls, bedding and furniture create a calming feel, and the odd pop of pastel colours (from the blue table lamp and peach coloured cushions) add a dash of warmth. The kitchen is a foodie’s dream, with its brand-new stainless steel appliances, and clear perspex Eames chairs add a contemporary feel around the reclaimed wooden dining table. And if you want to eat out, you’re only moments away from the lake and the trattorias of Como. Well, you are in Italy after all.
