The view from the hostel in general was really nice. If you are into surfing the hostel is a good choice. The hostel is in a more rural and very local area.
I booked a separate room with oceanview which didn’t meet my expectations. You could only see a little through a window and a little from the patio.
During our stay were constructions for a new building - we didn’t get informed and it was very loud at 6:30 in the morning.

Beautiful location, spectacular sunset.
Dorm accommodation not the best, for $13 I have slept in much more comfortable places in Nicaragua. But it’s a surf hostel with amazing view so if you don’t care about having good sleep go for it🤙🏼 Tranquiloooo todo bien amigo🤙🏼
Restaurant is a separate chapter l, I didn't like the food, only ate there twice than I gave up. The fish tacos had very little fish and a mountain of salad and were not cheap, the same for the pork bbq, small portions and not great. I spoke with William the owner and told my disappointment but he was stubborn on his position. When I told him the bbq portion were very small he told me to buy a second one ahahah he is a funny guy! Sure I am going to pay 20$ for 8oz of pork:-)
If people likes to pay for his food and portions good for him, but if the restaurant didn’t have such a beautiful view I doubt would be busy. My personal opinion.
3.5
- nice bright room, comfortable bed
- beautiful view from the terace
- amazing food for a decenz price
- the male personal was not very friendly, once refused to refill the drinking water that was offered because they said its weekend. While in the restaurant there was a big party, guess that was more important
- tiny kitchen
- the yoga area was not there at that point
- did not get back our surfboard from the ding repair as promised, missed a morning session, then the shaper just handed it out without comment
- its still 10min walk to Amarillo Beach from
The hill and it was just heavy shorebreak while we have been there. Panga drops is then 1h walking distance

The view! It’s amazing and they have a lot of places to chill that overlook the water.
The place was very cleaned and all the staff was very friendly. Bed was comfortable, fab was large and powerful. The location was between 2 beaches and close to the very small town.

Absolutely beautiful location perched up on a cliff and overlooking the ocean!
The best food we have had all stay in Nicaragua using locally grown organic produce!
Entire personal balcony overlooking another beach and a comfortable clean room!

This little hostel is located right on a cliff, with amazing views. The sunsets are stunning! There are not many options on the menu, but what they serve is made with fresh products and a lot of care. Food looks also amazing. The best thing about this hostel is that you can prepare your own food too! We bought a nice fish from one of the many fisherman in the neigbourhood and prepared it in a little seperate kitchen. The rooms are basic but sufficient with mosquitonets and ventilators. We stayed in a seperate space with a nice terace overlooking the other side of the bay and it felt very private. Also this place had a very simple kitchen, where you can prepare some basic food. It also has a fridge, just perfect. My husband took a massage on our private terrace which added to the overall relaxed atmosfere of this hidden gem!
If you are bothered by the sound of the waves slamming on the rocks than this place might be too noisy for you. Also the night we slept there, a private party in one of the privatly owned beachhouses kept us awake. But the beaches gave us the energy we needed for the next morning.

The view from the terrace is awesome, especially at sunset. It's very quiet at night and safe. Since there weren't too many guests at the time, I got a dorm for myself.
In relation to the price, I found the equipment a bit basic. However, since this region is the most expensive of Nicaragua, the prices are in line with other facilities.
They charge a 6% fee for credit card use, stating that you also would have to pay fees on cash withdrawal.
There were construction works when I arrived so that there were many workers around.
I personally didn't like the bathroom and kitchen so much.

Views of the beach are unrivalled.
The owner of the hostel was unresponsive via whatsapp on two occasions. The food was very average but the coffee decent.

Great location! Best view! Could have just sat there for hours and watch the waves! Rooms and kitchen are rather basic, but clean.

The property is in a location that you can’t beat, the view from the cliff is absolutely gorgeous. It’s also the only affordable hostel with walking access to Playa Colorado which is huge. A lot of the people that come often stay for longer periods so you get more of a community feeling than other hostels where most are staying for 1-3 days.

Very nice view
I have booked a private deluxe room. It is not Nice to call it a deluxe room as it is really really basic. And very expensive. So at least they should change the ñame of the room. At least to be faire With customers

The hostel is overlooking the beach and has beautiful views. We had their Sunday special meal which was lovely and the calala juice was our fave.
Nice vibe at the hostel with lots of hammocks to chill in although think the big deck in the photo is private space now.
The kitchen was quite small and only one job worked.

Amazing view and great food!
Sometimes the kitchen was dirty.

The best view you will get in Nicaragua, awesome if you want to surf Colorado and if want to stay in a place with a good vibe. Food and coffee are incredible. Stop looking for another place and go there.

best views in town, food and drinks from the restaurants are super tasty, great value for money, the kitchen is tiny but it‘s been cleaned by the staff everyday so it works out pretty well. would definitely recommend and stay there again
there’s a picture of a yoga deck that doesn‘t excist anymore, it‘s been turned into a private room
unfortunately they don‘t rent beginner boards, those are kept for lessons

The views at this hostel are undeniably the best thing about it. You have the best view to watch the surfers at Playa Amarillo and the sunset from the hammocks or from the bar. The staff are lovely and the hostel is kept really clean and tidy. There is food and drinks available at a decent price and twice a week a special dinner of Caribbean curry/ grilled pork (vegetarian options available). Its great value for money and the perfect place to chill out and relax
Playa Gigante is a very small town with very few shops and no ATM so you need to bring enough cash but also do some food shopping before. There are a few local buses from Rivas every day (not on a Sunday), otherwise you pay $20-30 for a taxi. I had a few small problems with my room - the mosquito net had holes in it so I got bitten pretty bad and in the on-suite bathroom to my 3 bed dorm the light switch and curtain rail was broken.

this hostel is the most amazing place you can stay at - the sunsets are magic wirh a direct view on the surf spot amarillo. very chill atmosphere and a laid back crowd. would definitely reccommend
its very nice but be aware that it is basic - don‘t expect luxury but ejoy the flow

Everything! Best hostel we’ve stayed at yet, 10/10 for location, the views are incredible. 10/10 for staff and atomasphere, everyone is so friendly and the vibe is so relaxing and chilled. They also had some great surf boards to rent and without a doubt one of the best fish curries I’ve ever had, the food is amazing and reasonably priced. We loved it here and miss it already. Thank you Monkey House for a great week.
honestly nothing!!

This place is one of the most beautiful places we have stayed so far in Central America. The views, the food, the coffee, vibe and staff are amazing. They have boards for rent or sale, kitchen is well equipped, path down the cliff to the beach, and comfortable beds. We loved that William really took the time to talk to and get to know us on our stay. So good that we didn’t want to leave!

The Monkey House is the best hostel in Nicaragua. It has the best view looking over Playa Amarillo and you can walk to Playa Colorado or Pangas if you are looking to surf. William is a wonderful host and curry + pork nights are a must for food. It is very clean, well maintained and the staff is super friendly. There are boards to rent and a separate kitchen for guests to cook in. My highest recommendation

The owner showed up at 8am drunk and started bothering the clients! Unacceptable!

The room smelled like an outhouse.

What a hidden gem. Beautiful views, plenty of space to relax. Rooms were simple but clean. (Try to get the one room with the open view towards the beach that is located above the restaurant, that one is breathtaking and huge). Food is very good and cheap in the restaurant and the town is cute. Internet is pretty good most of the time. William is a cool guy who created a dream place, we ended up staying 7 days!

the location and view out of a picture.

Great place to stay! Best views in town! Curry and grill nights were anazing! William and Donald were great with helping us from the start our trip!!! recommend!

The view is simply amazing! Laying in the hammock or enjoying a meal while watching the bay is just beautiful. Donald and the whole staff were very kind and helpful. Also the restaurant makes great food at a good price.
4.5
Amazing location, good food in the restaurant. Helpful and friendly staff. Calm vibe at night (bar closes 8.30pm usually). Free drinkinh water available
Booked a dorm without releasing it (the triple room is a small 3 bed dorm) so that should be changed on here. I switched to a private which was incredible.
