There are two queen bedrooms and another full bathroom upstairs with custom tiled shower. A full sized bedroom is just off of the living room on the first floor.
The Nezinscott Cottage was built in 1896 by 10 families from Turner, Maine. The club was formed by the ten Turner Center people. Reverend John Kimball were owners of the lot at Bailey Island and they chose nine others to go and build the cottage. Black and white photos from its construction adorn the new shiplap white walls. The lumber for the structure was obtained from the woods and milled in al local saw mill. It was then hauled by horses and loaded on cars and shipped by rail to Portland. It was then transferred to a boat and taken the 20 miles from there to the Island. An ox team drew it to the cottage site. The group went in August of that year along the same route which the lumber had been taken and camped in tents (captured in pictures on the wall of Nezinscott) while the cottage was being erected. This was prior the world's only cribstone bridge that was built in 1925 giving Bailey great accessibility. The following year, the group went down again and divided the building into a bedroom for each of the ten owners. This was changed with this renovation to a massive Primary Bedroom and bath and two bedrooms and full bath upstairs. At that time, there were very few cottages and has since become a very popular summer place. The Johnson Family purchased the cottage and for over 60 years has had many rental visitors prior to this renovation nearing completion. We love history so we hope you enjoy our historic sea home on the best accessible island in Maine.

Beautiful house and even more beautiful view - a few glitches
I can not say enough about the view from this property - it is spectacular! And the house itself has just been redone and is also beautiful. The furnishings are all new and comfortable - actually everything in the place was new. Magazine ready, I would say. Kitchen was well stocked and the beds were comfortable. We used the kayak and the beach and enjoyed it all. We had a few problems during our stay but we were the first renters so there were glitches to iron out.
We were told beach towels were provided but they forget to get them. There was no bannister on the stairs that made it a little tricky - admittedly, most problems came after a glass of wine or two. Dom said he had someone coming to install the bannister soon. The single bed in the loft was accessed by a steel outdoor ladder (the actual ladder was on back order) - and VERY VERY VERY high up. My 55 year old friend who was suppose to sleep in that bed, decided the couch was a safer bet.
Sheets were very wet on one bed( from spilled windex according to Dom) and a bunch of broken glass was found in one of the bedrooms.
The biggest problem was that we ran out of water. Dom was clear ahead of time that water is a valuable resource on the island. And fixed the problem within half a day. Not the end of the world. I think if we knew how to read the water level, maybe we could have prevented it by alerting Dom sooner. We didn't use much water (no cooking, and only 4 showers - mostly toilet use) but perhaps there was a problem to begin with. Once it was filled, we had no problem for the rest of the weekend. At no point did the water noticeably go down.
All in all, we really enjoyed our stay. I think once the kinks are worked out and the place is totally finished, I would stay there again. If they had offered us a first-time renters discount and let us know about the unfinished items, it would have been less of a problem.
