About this house rental
You can't beat the location: Kuau Makai is just a few steps away from Mama's Beach in a quaint and quiet neighborhood where it is still a pleasure to walk about. The house is on 2 levels: there are 4 bedrooms and 2 bathroom downstairs and 2 more rooms, both King size with bathroom attached on the second story. Gourmet kitchen, dining and living room and a 1/2 bathroom are also upstairs and so is the lanai with a partial ocean view, perfect to sit in the evenings just shooting the breeze. Outdoors the house is surrounded by a tropical yard with a hot/cold water outdoor shower, a BBQ and laundry area, with 2 washer/dryer sets, in the back . Hale Makai is the perfect setting for a reunion of a large family or a group of friends. Children and adults alike will love watching small fish in the tide pools at Mama' s Beach as well as turtles swimming in the bay.
In 5 minutes you can drive to Ho'okipa Beach Park and watch world-class windsurfers and kite surfers. Even if you are not into water sports it's an amazing spectacle, not to be missed! If you are into water sports, you can surf from the neighborhood beach (intermediate or expert), windsurf, wing surf, SUP, etc.
Mama's Fish House is definitely an experience to be had at least once when on Maui! in the town of Paia, less than a mile from the house, you will find several small restaurants and boutiques and get your groceries at one of best natural food stores on the island, Mana Foods.
We have beautiful trade winds and ceiling fans, but no AC.
A weekly mid-stay clean is mandatory for stays of 2 weeks or longer
Parking space off street for 4 cars.

Had a wonderful stay in Paia. The location, the house, the weather were all perfect.

This house is even more stunning in person. There was more than enough room to accomodate 5 couples on our family vacation. The views were breathtaking- from one kitchen window you can see the ocean and from another kitchen window you could see the mountains. There was a short walk to the beach where we saw sea turtles sunbathing daily. The property manager was very responsive to our requests and the neighbors were nice as well. Well worh ever penny!

There were 6 adults and 1 child and we all had plenty of room. This property is set up as 1 studio, 1 2 bedroom unit and 1 3 bedroom unit, but when you rent the house you get all areas. The condition of the house is in need of a little TLC, neither garbage disposal worked. There are 3 TV's, one worked, one did not even turn on and 1 had limited channels. Some of the windows were very hard to open and close and some of the locks were broken. The wifi/internet went out and could not be fixed while we were there (last 4 days) but they did offer us a small refund for the inconvenience. For the price we paid I expected it to be in better condition. Overall though, the spaciousness was really nice. We all had areas where we could hang out for some privacy. It is close to Mama's beach where we did see turtles on the beach. It is a good location for exploring the central and east side of the island.

The property was nice for our group of 8 and could have comfortably accommodated more. We liked the area and the neighborhood felt safe and welcoming. A few minor issues were quickly addressed. Kitchens were well supplied. Overall a good experience.

The most important thing to take away from this review is that the hosts don’t do it justice when explaining just how close the beach is to the house. It’s the beach behind Mama’s Fish House and it is literally across the driveway. It was honestly our favorite beach of any beach we visited in Maui. It was perfect for little kids, no big waves just chill waters but also fun for older kids to snorkel around. Sea turtles are always swimming there and come up on the beach so it was a fun extra treat. The house is worth renting alone just for the beach. It’s essentially your own private beach.
The home was perfect for our extended family group to be able to share one home together. The layout of the house is a tad funky at first glance but is actually really nice having it split up the way it is for larger groups/separate families. There are two kitchens and two living rooms which again is nice to be able to split up a bit and have some space so not everyone has to be together the whole time. There are so many doors and balconies to slip out to it never feels crowded in this home. The greenery around the house is so tropical and the view is beautiful!!
The neighborhood was so cute and quaint. It’s a very short walk to the little market down the street to get breakfast, poke, smoothies, and other random food items.
Craig was a wonderful host and very attentive.
If you want to stay in Paia, this place is 10/10.

This larger property is located in a beautiful residential area with a sheltered cove and beach just a few dozen steps away. The house easily accommodates a large family with 6 bedrooms and 4-1/2 bathrooms. It is like a triplex with two larger kitchen and living room areas and a smaller master suite with a kitchenette. This was perfect for our family: mom and dad, three adult children with spouses, and a total of three grandchildren. Each family had their own private space. We all enjoyed the two larger communal spaces and kitchens. Everything was clean and the property manager responded to our requests quickly. The grandkids enjoyed the ocean toys provided. Two washers and dryers meant no waiting for an available washer. We would be happy to rent this place again.

Lots of room for my adult children, spouses and grandson to gather, yet get away for some private time too. We enjoyed the very short walk to the beach and easy access to the highway into town. House was also well equipped with beach gear. House manager and owner were quick to respond to answer questions and take care of our needs.

This is a confluence of three rental units that can be combined for larger groups. There is a duplex--each side two stories--with living areas upstairs with verandas and views to the ocean. Then there is a "sky bridge" to an upstairs over-garage suite with separate entrance that has more privacy. Windows, verandas, views everywhere--lovely. Too many balconies to count. Colorful tropical landscaping. Refreshing trade winds through all rooms. Plenty bathrooms. Adequate kitchens. Outdoor shower. Lots of snorkeling gear, beach chairs, towels. Two, new, huge washer-dryer sets.
Short path between neighboring properties to intimate beach with sea turtles. Adjacent to Mama's Fish House complex (high-end restaurant and a couple nice rental houses). Walk to Ho'okipa Beach Park, and short drive to groceries, shops, and eateries in Paia.
If you like North Shore, and have a large group, this place is hard to beat.

Perfect location for a week in Maui
We really enjoyed staying in this area. We felt it has more to offer than vacation resorts. Paia is more quaint with some really great ice cream, shaved ice, and restaurants. In fact, the poke in the little general store, just around the corner from the house, is the freshest we had on the island. Upcountry, farms, and hiking are easier to access from here. And the cove next to the house was ideal for the kids to play since it's protected and doesn't get busy. They were out there almost every day. The house itself is a little dated, but it's very spacious and fit our group of 11 with room to spare. And even on very hot and humid days, it's still breezy enough that it felt comfortable. It's also well stocked. All the essentials were provided. The only thing I wish it had is a coffee grinder since we bought various local coffees to try and then found out we didn't have a grinder.

Great rental for large family gatherings and amazing location!
We rented this house for our extended family gathering of 10 people total. The house is HUGE and worked great for our family while still allowing privacy. The location is AMAZING! Steps to Kuau beach and a short walk to the Kuau Store. Would definitely rent again in the future!
