A sidewalk is just across the street for walking to the adorable Mentone village. If you love spending time in our gorgeous eclectic town, but don't want to spend time driving in the car to get there, this is the perfect place for you. Settle in to our 1,100 sq ft quaint and cozy cottage, complete with a newly renovated kitchen, new bathroom, and authentic eclectic décor. We had a wonderful time. The home was clean and really cute. The beds were very comfortable. We asked for a keurig coffee maker and it was supplied. While sitting on the front porch a black dog came from across the road and layed down outside the door and just visited with us. It was so sweet. Mentone is just the right spot between Fort Payne and Chattanooga. The town was so cute and the market has awesome cheese cake, a must try. Would love to stay there again.

So happy we booked a stay here. The place was exactly like the pictures and it truly felt like the host thought of everything. There was so much detail in all the decoration and the house felt so cozy and cute immediately as you walked in. Loved the huge kitchen, that was a big plus for us to cook. Was super close to Mentone and an easy drive to DeSoto State Park and Fort Payne. I would love to go back!

My wife & I stayed here with our 4 & 5 year olds. The kids didn’t want to leave! The beds were very comfortable & we would definitely stay here again.

After a Chattanooga vrbo rental cancelled on us, we had a week to book a new property. We chose Mentone, and we couldn't have been more pleased! This house gets high marks for the comfort of the mattresses and linens as well as the lighting -- we were crafting/scrapbooking, and good lighting is a must! We also did some digital scrapbooking, and the internet was speedy and reliable. (Verizon cell coverage was spotty!) We really enjoyed the artsy splashes in this house and the overall comfort. There was some road noise, but we were so snug and happy it didn't bother us. There's so much charm and nature in this area, we are already planning a return trip...and we've got no reason to shop for any other house! Yay!

This was our first time visiting Mentone. We relaxed at your Mountain Shanty. Early one morning we spotted a doe out the kitchen window. We enjoyed a delicious meal at The Wildflower Cafe. We took a hike to DeSoto Falls by way of the Bluf trail & took in some Awesome sights along the way. We loved sitting on the front porch in the mornings while drinking our coffee. This quaint cottage was just perfect for us! Its location is ideal! It is very clean and decorated so nicely. This trip to see the fall color was a check off on my bucket list. And this little cottage just made it more wonderful!

A great place to relax, very cozy and clean. The beds were super comfortable, with soft pillows. It was furnished with everything we needed to have a wonderful mini vacation. We all agreed we’d stay here again and recommend it to friends.

Our family of four had a wonderful trip to Mentone recently! We had plenty of room and loved that the girls had space to play. There were extension cords everywhere which made plugging up all of our chargers, monitors, and sound machines a breeze. Would definitely recommend this property to others!

This is my third time visiting the Mentone/Fort Payne area. God's hand is clearly visible in all the natural beauties found in this region. Previously we have always stayed in some of the more secluded cabins buried deep in the forest, which have been perfect for when we were craving complete solitude. I brought my elderly parents on this trip and so convenience was key. We choose this shanty because it was in walking distance to town, yet still afforded us the privacy we would lose at a B&B. Yes, as previously posted the photos posted are high gloss, but no more so than any other real estate showing. They were still very true to what you will experience at the cabin. This country girl and her family loved the eclectic style of each room and the ease of finding the essentials needed. I appreciated the echos and creaks of each footstep as we walked through the shanty, as they made me feel nostalgic to the house my grandfather built my grandmother. The 'secret' connector door from the second to third bedroom, made this trip for my little one. There was a nice sized area behind the cabin to run around with my daughter to play and in the cabin there were several children books for my daughter to peruse. Inside, the big farmhouse style sink in the kitchen was EVERYTHING to me, and quickly became a todo item on my own home improvement list. The house is right off the main road which was convenient when we wanted to just get up and go. The bulk of the places we visted were a mere 10-20minute drive away. We loved having the local Dollar General (equipped with grocery section) just 6 minutes down the road. At night, you will hear the steady stream of cars traveling by, but after the first night, it just becomes background noise. The host Shannon was quick to respond to all my messages throughout the trip and was sure to check in on us after we settled in. They left several local brochures with hiking info and etc. She even entertained my family's crazy plant exchange tradition 😜 Thank you Bakers for being such wonderful hosts. The shanty truly was a refuge.

This was my first time to Mentone. I was looking for a solo retreat to recharge. It was a last minute booking and the owner was so quick to reply, very thorough and reassured me it was a perfect place to land. Google Maps brought we right to the property with ease. The check in process was seamless - a simple code to let myself in. I walked in and it was like a breath of fresh air. Hanging on the wall was a sign that said Mentone Mountain Shanty - A soul's refuge. I knew I was in the right place! The house was decorated so cute and it was extremely clean with a light, airy feeling all around. I absolutely loved the kitchen and the natural light in this room. My biggest issue was trying to decide which of the beautiful rooms to sleep in! I loved the cottage's eclectic style. You could tell the owner's truly wanted you to feel at home. I loved the little hidden touches of love in each room - like the affirmation cards in the bathroom. The house is a 10 min walk from downtown. There is a sidewalk across the street that takes you right to the downtown - lots of shops. The Mentone Market was a great stopping point! I also took a 10 min drive to Desoto Falls - all of the which the owner helped me coordinate. I will definitely be back! Thank you Shanty for holding me in a time I really needed it the most. Average at best. The glossy images online can be deceiving. I was a bit disappointed when I stepped in and went back to check the pictures that were online. Same furniture, but to me comparing the pictures to the actual place resulted in a big letdown. I went to open the door of the front bedroom, and the door knob fell off. That happened every time we attempted to open the door. So, I had to end up getting my tools out to manipulate it to stay on. Of course, I won’t be returning.

We rented this for our son and fiancé that we’re getting married in Mentone. It was conveniently located and a great base for all of the festivities! Shannon communicated well and we appreciate the heads up! We own a cabin here and love our little town of Mentone as does our family. Thanks so much for sharing your home with our family!

Our kids weren’t home for Christmas so we met my mom, aunt, and cousin in Mentone. Mind you, this was during Elliot when it was soooo cold. I don’t think the hvac system was able to keep up against the cold but I brought a dish heater and it warmed everything up nicely. The location was convenient and the house was sweet. The kitchen is really nice. We had a nice time and the owner communicated well with us.

Cute cottage just seconds from downtown on same road. Cute and cozy but updated! Strong water pressure in shower!!! Comfy screened in porch to drink my coffee and read the Bible every morning. Washer and dryer leads to back porch where we saw deer and other wildlife. Comfortable stay and easy host to communicate with. Thank you for hosting! Jane

1 There was no toaster. I bought one and left it for you. 2 The ceiling fan in the front most bedroom shook violently and made loud noises when it ran making it unusable. 3 The ceiling fan in the rearmost bedroom would not run at all. I also left some coffee filters for the next group that might want to have their breakfast in the unit. More care should be given to checking the proper operation of the equipment in this unit before renting it. in the future.
