DO NOT STAY HERE. This hotel is horrible. Nothing about this is a "leading" hotel. We booked a "villa" that was worse than any US Airbnb you could even imagine. Beyond dated decor, terrible mold/musty smell, 1970's kitchen. Seriously, the worst. When we complained, they took us to a Grandma-style hotel room in the main house. Same smell and just overall awful. The area where the hotel is is also terrible. Do not be misled by believing this is a nice hotel. It is not. And, avoid Costa Brava generally. Do yourself a favor and drive a little further to the south of France. Or, another area of Spain. Don't make the same mistake we did.

It is a 5 star hotel that has seen better days. Its being milked. You see peeling paint on some walls and the whole inside looks tired and old. The antique furniture and that slightly musty smell does not help.
I would not stay again frankly.

The hotel was really great. The grounds were beautiful and the service was top notch. They took great care to keep our bikes stored and accessible and had great recommendations for food.

This hotel is luxurious and charming located on a beautiful part of the Costa Brava. The pool is stunning and rooms beautifully furnished. The staff went out of their way to help us get transport in flash flooding and horrendous storms this week and we are ever so grateful for their assistance.

Amazing location, a lux hotel catering to your every need, yet you ‘are free’ to do and roam as you please, great breakfast buffet. And the cream on top, dog friendly. Truly amazing.

The property is absolutely stunning. The hotel sits on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean. Beautiful salt water pool, with a close walk to the beach. The room are very traditional with antique furnishings, the beds are extremely uncomfortable making getting a good nights sleep difficult. The staff is readily available but the style of service is more formal than friendly. The breakfast buffet is included and offers a wide variety of high quality food. The other dining options on property are quite pricey and they do not offer a casual option. We found some great places on the beach, a 15 min walk away, most notably La Clova (which we frequented for dinner on several nights of our stay) that offered fresh delicious dinner options in a more relaxed environment.

Had the most wonderful, lovely romantic time at this hotel! We arrived early and because the hotel wasn’t very full (it was alsoour anniversary) we got an upgrade to a room with a sea view. It was the most incredible view with a balcony and a table and chairs to sit on overlooking the ocean. Clean and spacious room. The quality of service was excellent and the hotel were so accommodating in every single way from reception (special shout out to Patricia) to the spa (special thanks to the girls who tailored my massage and facial to my exact needs!) and to the restaurant (special shout out to Paco). The hotel sorted out bikes to hire for us which was €30 for 5 hours and we explored the entire surrounding area which was great. Before dinner we had drinks on our balcony. Candlelight restaurant was delicious and well worth the money, although actually not overpriced compared to the local restaurants in the area as sometimes you can expect. We wanted to sit outside so they opened the area up for us even though everyone else was inside. It was a beautiful setting and there was a pianist who really completed the atmosphere. The waiters were brilliant and just exactly the type of knowledgable staff you want and expect for a hotel of this standard. Great evening and the food was incredible especially the crab starter and the turbot main! The next day we had a delicious breakfast. Lots on offer Spanish, continental and British and most hot food freshly made. Outdoor pool fab. Will be back

Grand old world hotel. Had a very romantic and relaxing getaway with my husband. Highly recommend if youre looking for some R&R. Although the town that the hotel is located within is quiet, The hotel is well situated and there are plenty of towns within a 30-40 min drive that can be easily visited. Both the hotel grounds and facilities are stunning!

I would highly recommend this Hotel to anyone looking for comfort, elegance and location. The service was terrific. The location is amazing. Close to a good beach and a great waking path along the coast to a secluded second beach. We will be back!

Had a wonderful time! I was able to rest and relax. In this quiet beach town. Our hotel overlooks a lovely beach cove where the water has gentle waves that allows young children to swim easily. Nice restaurants are nearby at different price ranges. Food is good, but can be expensive along the waterfront. Enjoyed the immaculate pool and the views. Staff spoke English and were very attentive and helpful. Our room was cleaned twice a day and the staff was very prompt in addressing our needs. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone searching for a quiet, beautiful place to get away to.

You need a GPS or the instructions to find the hotel as the road signs for the hotel appear randomly along the route and not at each turn.
One arrival you feel as though you have stepped back to a gentler time. The whole feel is spacious. Although the reception desk is small it is set in a large open space. The welcome was warm and friendly showing us to the room whilst the cases were taken up by a separate route. The room which had a terrace was light an spacious. The bathroom was well appointed with a separate walk in shower.
Breakfasts were well catered with plenty of variety.
We ate in the Gaslight Grill on a couple of occasions and the food was excellent both times. On one of the nights the meals were served outside on the terrace which was particularly romantic.
We struggled to come up with an adequate word to describe the service and I settled for measured. They don't rush but not in a slacker sort of way more of it is unseemly to be seen dashing. They are are attentive and helpful.
The pool area is very impressive with an aspect over the bay with a very refreshing salt water pool with plenty of sunbeds and shade.
All in all we have a very relaxing break there.

Arriving at the hotel sets the scene for a great stay. Beach mercy to the hotel, amazing properties and a friendly security guard in a hut to finish it off. The hotel itself is just wow, with it capturing very period features and furniture, but with them looking like they were made last week. It's an extremely well looked after place and the staff were all excellent. Great pool to sit around and you even get a great view of the coast from your elevated position. We went or of season, so certainly foot good value and not people around. The only down side were the guests to be honest. A bit stuffy ans wanting to look their best all the time... It's a holiday people! It was interesting also to see several elderly gentlemen who had obviously brought along their daughters to enjoy the holiday with them. One man had brought two of his daughters... How nice :)

The hotel is at the most beautiful location and offers everything one needs for relaxation. I travelled on my own and all hotel staff was very welcoming and helpful in accommodating everything I need. Although I didn't stay in the room with a sea view, my window was overlooking a beautiful park and I was able to hear the sea at night. This was very relaxing. The room was serviced twice every day and I had beautiful fresh linen every night. Food was excellent with a choice of restaurants and a bar at the hotel, so I ended up having almost all my meals in the hotel. The Spa at the hotel offers a lot of different treatments and massage which I tried, and again this was great. I am planning to stay at the Hostal de la Gavina again soon!

The service at La Gavina is very good. However, its very expensive and much of the hotel seems quite dated.

A grand hotel, five star in all respects. The staff was helpful. Our room was large, comfortable and beautifully furnished. We loved our terrace and spent most of our evenings there, prior to going to dinner. We had dinner at the hotel, in the courtyard. The food was wonderful, the setting romantic. A wonderful experience. One note, our GPS had difficulty finding the hotel.
