One night stay. Hotel is very central, handy for pubs, restaurants and shopping. We were at the rear of the hotel so no view but it was very quiet and the bed was really comfortable so we slept well. Would definitely stay again.
4.0
Warm and welcoming, beautiful old building which could do with some updating particularly in the bedrooms, however it was clean and well stocked with everything we needed (apart from hand wash, we just used the shower gel provided), got a car park no problem and breakfast was beautiful and plentiful

Reception were very helpful when I arrived and the room was very clean and quiet.

This room was amazing, the bed was fantastic (a four poster) so much room. The shower once I sorted the controls out was great. Hair dryer brilliant. Everything was superb. Shame we didn’t stay longer
4.0
Nice comfortable room the only negative is the heavy spring on the doors which meant I was awakened early by other guests being. Inconsiderate & banging their doors

It was a good stay although the room was a little small and the view was of the back of the hotel and various pipes! Unfortunately there are a lot of roadworks going on direcrly outside the entrance so that is not very convenient. The centre of Carlisle is all being worked on at the moment and for the next several months.

The hotel, has a lovely reception and quite grand, the bar area quite cosy too, the reception process to check in a little slow, I was told I was in a refurbed room, quite nice twin room with a new TV and looks like some new chairs / paint, the bathroom it looked like they forgot to renovate still looks like the previous one, it was clean and tidy, but room 117 is right beside an alley and you can hear everyone go through it during the night so hard to sleep, also the walls between the rooms are quite thin, the hotel has a small pool and jacuzzi, i think I would be in two minds to stay here again

This is a really, really lovely hotel. It is a little bit of a step back in time, but in a lovely way. A really grand building that has been well kept whilst it is still possible to imagine how grand it would have appeared to people when first built. It made me smile whenever I was walking around it. I was there on business, but Carlisle seems like a very interesting place ... I will be back to both Carlisle and the Crown and Mitre!

Receptionist left us standing there for a while before acknowledging that we were there, rather rude I felt. The welcome was not warm and not at all friendly, I would not recommend this hotel, it is old fashioned and the staff not really the best in hospitality.

Hot water was not available until after
10 PM due to high volume of guests. Also, stayed in a building were rooms were next to cathedral and bells were chiming throughout the night until late evening around 11 PM. Also heavy construction is occurring throughout the city center were the hotel is located. Be Aware!

It’s a cool hotel on the interior of a little dated. There is construction happening in the pedestrian area out front so it was a bit noisy.

Great location in the city, staff where exceptional and very friendly

A lot of construction going on at the square in front of the hotel, but that isn’t the hotel’s fault, of course. Otherwise, it was all good — very friendly staff and our room was clean and lovely.

A good old style hotel with lots of character right in the centre of Carlisle. Easy access to the castle and cathedral and the shopping area of Carlisle. Unfortunately there was considerable reconstruction work on the square in front of the hotel, but not a fault with the hotel, just took away a bit of the atmosphere of Carlisle. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Very hard to find parking. Staff friendly but scruffy a bit like the hotel .. well past its prime

The hotel is tired in some places, work has been done on one part of the hotel to refurbish the rooms, which i would describe as a light touch up as fixtures, fittings and thr shower is still dated. Hotel room was very clean and the bed was comfortable.
The main issue is around the breakfast booking through hotels.com you have to pay 22.50 for it even if the room is for one person. However on the day the breakfast can be brought for 10.50. The breakfast is not the best very average.

You have to walk through the hotel, out the back door, through the car park next to the dumpsters to get to the room.
Worn carpet, missing carpet, dirty carpet, curtains, woodwork with mars and large pieces missing, sheet with stains on them, lamp shades coming apart, hole in the wall and so on.

Booked as listed with EV charging.
On arrival was told the car park was full and had to pay to park in a local public car park.

Staff were excellent, manager superb and customer service beyond call of duty

Good location in the centre of town, hotel building was nice and our room was very comfortable and clean. We were in the annexe, which was a bit noisy from lorries early in the morning, and some odd noises from the plumbing, but overall a good stay.

Church bell on the hour and every hour , no good when it’s 1am , 2am, 3am ….. and so on
8.0
The hotel room was clean and spacious, the bath and shower were clean but the bathroom was a little dated. The breakfast in the morning was nice and the staff kept it topped up however the service was a little slow and if you asked for something it was a while before the staff would come back to you with it, EG milk. The “continental” breakfast was next to nothing bar some options for cereals and one or two pastries. I wouldn’t let it put me off tho as the location of the hotel was ideal and it was quiet during the night. The bells on the Sunday morning were horrendous tho they went on far too long but I realise this is out with the control of the hotel.

You need to call when close by to get directions to carpark at rear of the motel.

Nice hotel, room was small but bed was comfortable. We enjoyed dinner and a lovely cooked breakfast. Staff were friendly.

Overall we had a good stay.
Great points: Comfy beds, excellent customer service, excellent breakfast. Swimming pool and jacuzzi.
Not so great bits: full car park, only two EV car chargers and one of them had been “ICE’d”, i.e. internal combustion engine car blocking the charger.

The service was poor. People seem not to be trained.

We loved this hotel -beautiful Edwardian building with nice rooms and a gorgeous pool. The location is fabulous - opens onto a large pedestrian square with great shopping. Also, next to the Carlisle Cathedral (don't miss this!). The best part of the stay were the kindness and good humour of the hosts- Maggie and Alistair. We couldn't find the hotel parking and Alistair actually drove us there (otherwise, we would never have found it!). We would highly recommend a stay at the Crown and Mitre.
8.0
Historic hotel with character. Unfortunately our room was near the kitchen and very noisy early and late since we needed windows open because no AC. Showers were a challenge to figure out which resulted in some cold surprises!

We had 2 one night stays with breakfast one morning. Staff are very friendly, room in both cases was roomy with a very comfortable bed and great bathroom facilities. This is a lovely old building so some areas are a little tired but there's obviously a renovation programme ongoing. Only slight criticism was continental breakfast could have been more expansive but cooked breakfast very good.
4.0
Breakfast was very disappointing, with overcooked bacon and solid fried eggs. On our second day - a fairly quiet Saturday - there was no buffet breakfast and we asked for soft eggs - 3 out of 4 still arrived solid. I felt the waitress taking our order was not very accommodating and hadn't specified "soft". We waited about 45 minutes for food to arrive. We were there on business and didn't anticipate spending an hour at breakfast! Lovely hotel, but if we stay there again we'll have breakfast elsewhere.
