I was impressed by the beautiful architecture and history of this hotel. So far the best hotel stay at Berkeley. Friendly staff and complimentary breakfast. Will come back for another stay.

Loved the historic charm!

Beautiful historical building and grounds. Lousy area kind of, and parking is terrible …cool rooms, if very small.

Clean very comfortable atmosphere. My only complaint is checking was 3pm. I arrived at 3:15pm and room was not ready until close to 4:30pm.

The property is beautiful! The staff was very welcoming. The person that checked me in was very friendly and helpful after I arrived way too early. They made sure my bags were stored so I could go grab food. They also picked out a room with a view of the Golden Gate.

I truly enjoyed my stay at Berkeley City Club Hotel! As a solo traveler that spends lots of weeks on the road, this was a beautiful, safe, and classy place to stay. The history of the building shines through its character. There are lots of activities happening throughout the hotel -- I often heard someone playing the piano as I walked downstairs, or music lessons going on. The parking lot is incredibly convenient, and the staff are caring and welcoming. I grabbed a drink at the hotel bar, Morgan's, and loved the atmosphere. The hotel is right by the Cal campus, so there were students roaming up and down the streets on occasion. Overall, an incredible experience -- if you are in the area and looking for somewhere to stay, this is it!

Fabulous Julia Morgan building! There is a wonderful old tranquility about the place. Operable windows are so nice to have in a hotel. Breakfast was very good as well.

What a hidden gem! This is a beautiful hotel with a rich history. Safe onsite parking and walking distance to Berkeley campus and the Greek theater. Friendly staff and volunteers. Only downside was the bar/lounge and restaurant was closed when we were there (Sunday/Monday) which I get but I think if there are guests, you should be open. But the lounge was open so we brough our own drinks and enjoyed the ambiance. Wonderful continental breakfast included in stay. Highly recommend and can't wait to go back!

The hotel is amazing! Historical and cultural! Loved it!!
The night we stayed was a wedding and play , the Resturaunt was overwhelmed and unable to seat us , the bar was as overwhelmed,,
There was a lot going on and we couldn’t view some of the areas
The complimentary breakfast was very pleasant the next day and the hotel it was much quieter!
I do recommend it, but maybe not on a Saturday night with a wedding and play going on!

This is a historique and charming building. Although it doesn’t have tv or ac, it is a wonderful place to step back in time and relax. The courtyard is lovely and shady. Our room was comfortable and clean and lovely. We would definitely return here!

This is such a beautiful historic hotel! The bed was really comfortable and the shower had great water pressure. Room 408 has a nice view of the Golden Gate Bridge. And bring a bathing suit because their indoor pool is magical.

This is a beautiful historic property which is also a private club. Built in 1929 so this gorgeous structure has some aging issues. You know that as a guest. No TV, and no AC. You can deal. But as an owner you need to be responsible. So when the bathroom sink leaked and the closet light didn't work, we reported those things as we left for a 4 hour hospital treatment. When we returned nothing had been done. They miscommunicated about the maintenance and didn't have another room. So we decided to leave. At departure they then offered an upgrade to another room, but couldn't refund the night we hadn't used although we were checking out before 1:00pm. I won't stay again, but you must see the building because it is a treasure. Not the management, but the building.

The perfect place to stay for a lover of History architecture and uniqueness. We got to stay on the top floor with a great City View . I picked this place for the historical pool and loved everything else . The breakfast food was outstanding and the dining hall delightful as well. We walked to a concert at the Greek Theater and found a late night food court on the way home. I will spend more time in the hotel next time I stay here!
If you are finicky about needing a place to feel overly sanitized and super updated than maybe stay somewhere else. If you want to stay in an unforgettable whimsical fascinating spot this is it!

Beautiful iconic hotel with delightful amenities. Gorgeous structures, amazing gardens and pool plus the perfect location. The staff is wonderful, courteous and helpful and the breakfast was delicious so much better than the standard hotel breakfast - elegant and tasty. Outstanding!

we had a 6th floor room with amazing views of the Golden gate Bridge ( hiding in the fog)and University of Berkeley.
We could walk out onto a roof terrace.
The breakfast was good and we used the parking.
also took a yoga class in the Library and swam in the marvellous pool.

A good stay in a historic building. I loved the convenience of being able to walk anywhere on Cal’s campus. The included continental breakfast was well worth the price of the hotel stay. Fresh quiches and fresh bread and pastries were awesome! However, if you are used to the more spacious amenities of more modern hotels this isn’t for you. Only a few USB ports in the room, beds and rooms are on the smaller side. You have an actual metal key to get into your hotel room. No rfid cards here. My only complaint was a $100 charge on my room. The hotel did call me to confirm the charge was actually mine. Not sure if another guest mistakenly used my room number. Overall, if you are looking for a place to campus and don’t need all the modern conveniences it is a great option. I love history and would definitely stay again. Thank you!

Very nice older hotel. Much provenance. A bit dusty and dark but a classic hotel and beautiful in design. Staff was very good. Food was very nice. Location was outstanding for access to the University.

This is a historic building. The room we have is quite small as expected. The building is beautiful. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating.

Small, musty and very basic room ... particularly surprising considering the price. The hotel is a great historic location in Berkeley and reasonably close to Cal campus and downtown attractions, but the space and amenities need some serious updating. Parking is extra challenging and an extra charge if you have a car.

Such a gem this historic building from 1930. While providing a journey back in time, this great piece of architecture provides for a comfortable stay as all facilities are well preserved and fully functional.
Definitely check out the pool.

Beautiful historic hotel. Lots of history. The dining room is gorgeous and the breakfast was really good. Rooms are small but that was expected. They are nicely decorated in the era of the building. There was a space type heater in the room which worked fine. Maybe the radiator doesn’t work anymore..Shower was strong and water was warm. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and had the added benefit of learning about the history of the building and the architect, Julia Morgan.

Great place for those who are fans of historic properties. The breakfast offerings (e.g. mini crustless quiche, whole fruit, breads, yogurt) were delicious. The furnishings are not the same in every room so make sure you ask for a room with a desk if you will need one.
2.5 / 5.0
For the amount of rooms the hotel has there is no where near enough parking for guests. Other than that is was a good stay.

This place is special kind of beautiful. It’s a castle. The service is excellent. There are interesting people everywhere. The bartenders are especially interesting and friendly. The front desk is friendly and always helpful.

This is a unique property for people who like old world charm and aren't looking for every modern convenience (ie no tvs or mini fridges in the rooms). The property is stunning in a 1930's way, and will be appreciated by those who are looking for something that is not cookie cutter. The large, deco-tiled pool is a special treat for swimmers.
