About this apartment rental
Rent your own 1 bedroom cottage in back of a cute house in Albany. The cottage has been completely renovated with new kitchen cabinets, granite, completely new faux finish walls with vaulted ceilings. COMES WITH IT'S OWN PRIVATE BATHROOM, a smallish bedroom that contains a captains bed with four drawers. The bedroom and the bathroom are tiled. Comes with well equipped Kitchen, 49 inch 4K TV with many streaming services and Netflix free. Captains bed has four drawers and there is also a small five drawer chest of drawers in the bedroom. Completely private and separate from the main house where I live. Comfortable bed in the bedroom but its a very small room so there is no room to get out of the bed except crawling over your bed partner and also the bed is higher than a normal bed so I have been advised that older guests might not take to this so well. and very comfortable sofa bed in the living room. There is also a loft with a full size bed. Safe neighborhood, lots of on street parking, very near Solano ave which has tons of businesses and restaurants. Bart station about ten to fifteen minutes walk. As the space is very near the house and sound travels easily please no loud parties! The space couldn't comfortably accommodate 4 people although 7 people can sleep there but it would be very crowded.

The only two things that I would mention as a negative, is, one, as far as dog friendly, just know the yard is not conducive to taking your dog out for a bathroom break! You will need to walk down the block! With Poop bags, which not everyone uses! And two, the kitchen drawers and under the sink, and the floor between the fridge and counter’s could use a good cleaning! But, that being said, the important things were spotless! Ie, the bathroom and floors and counters! Maybe some fresh white towels and sheets and pillow protectors would be nice! The place has an eclectic charm that I appreciate! I’m not one for the institutional look! I walked everywhere and felt very safe, in the unit and outside of it!

This property met our needs. We appreciated that we were allowed to bring our dog and everything we needed to do was conveniently located.
It was a quick weekend so we didn’t have a lot of time to just hang out in the cottage. Our overall impression with it was kind of cute and funky, but could have been a little cleaner.

I enjoyed the amenities, full kitchen, living room with TV, bathroom and bedroom. The only thing I didn't like was the bedding, pillows, and comforter. Just had a bad smell sort of like old cheese. I would recommend a waterproof mattress covering for general cleanliness and perhaps that the pillows and comforter be washed along with the sheets after each guest.

The cottage was a comfortable, cheerful refuge for my daughter and myself when we had emergency construction on our home.

It is conveniently located near Solano Avenue, and the host has provided many conveniences. The location is quiet and comfortable.

We have stayed here before; it is convenient to relatives we were visiting. Clean, quiet, very comfortable.

Super cute, and the loft was a big draw for our kiddos, who found the whole place quite enchanting. Thanks for a great stay, in a great location!

Great location, responsive owner.

This is an older property with some unique features. The loft is unique, and adds extra space. Our son slept there in previous visit.
Robin is great host, friendly, and super fast with response to any questions, issues.
Kitchen area is furnished with extras, such as coffee, and even some foods furnished! There were some canned goods and various items.
Space is small, but cosy and comfy.

Stayed here for 1 week as it is close to family. Robin was easy to work with and provided excellent instructions for entry, use of the heater, and other useful information during our stay. We only saw him once but he told us he had knocked a few times to introduce himself but we were not there. His phone number is on the instruction sheet if we needed anything. The bed was very comfortable and plenty of hot water for showers. The kitchen was stocked with sufficient plates, silverware, etc. if you wanted to cook. However, in our opinion this is not your typical VRBO rental and could use some improvements. Advertised as sleeping up to 7 but that would be crowded. Rugs appeared to be old, sliding glass door in the bedroom did not lock (there is a wooden fence around the outside of the slider but could not see if it was accessible or if it had another door that locked). In the kitchen, the refrigerator had a carton of milk left behind and a package of expired frozen chicken in the freezer. The cupboards also had lots of food and some of it was opened. It was easy to find the location and there are security lights if you come and go early morning or late evening. It was quiet in the area and we got a good nights sleep every night.

The best thing about this cottage is its location, it really can't be beat if you are looking for a nice quiet place to stay in the east bay thats walking distance to things. Robin was easy to communicate with as well. The one note to prospective guests I have is though technically it can sleep more, four people is the max this cottage can hold if you want to comfortably use it. Overall we really enjoyed ourselves and recommend it.

Nice place, bit chilly.

This was an especially nice place for just one person. Looks small but very roomy inside. Bright and cheerful. Easy walking to Solano, CVS, and a Safeway grocery. I disagree with the reviewer who said the bed was too high. I am 73, have arthritis, and had no trouble getting in or out. There are light switches in the bedroom for ceiling lights, so it wasn’t dark at all. Only problem I had was reaching drinking glasses above the refrigerator. Would definitely stay here again.

My family and I had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful cottage. It’s located right near Solano Avenue and within walking distance to a great family park near Albany High School. The owner of the cottage, Robin, was easy to communicate with and very courteous. We will be recommending this place to friends and family who travel through the Bay Area.

this place is near the wonderful SOLANO STREET [] great restaurants and FLOWERLAND [an amazing flower nursery and High wire coffee patio} .its a good location .
.THE main room has lovely high ceilings and banana leaves seen from high windows ,,ITs a happy room.
Very sLow hot water in the bathroom,. The bathroom needs the shower grout attended to . The kitchen has nice light but the oven must be lit with a match .
The bedroom is very dark and the bed is not comfortable or easy to get in or out ..IT is not a comfortable place for people 60 or older`~ .
its good for younger people and a great location..

Fabulous week
We loved staying at Robin’s place! Adorable, well decorated fun little cottage with a high ladder loft my 8 year old loved. Had all the amenities we needed. Loved the fans especially when it got a little warm and cooled down nicely at night.. Cottage is on a wonderful street in a great area, walking distance to many cute shops, restaurants and a couple of blocks from Safeway. We found a wonderful playground a few blocks in the opposite direction. Loved that it was a 20 min, pleasant drive to Oakland and Berkeley. You have to check out Tokyo Fish Market about 6 min away if you love Japanese food. My only suggestions would be to possibly move the dishes from above the fridge to above the stove or provide a step stool for shorter visitors like me.:) A few Tupperware and extra dish towels would also be helpful additions. Robin was amazing. Super responsive, patient and helpful. I stayed there with my kids ages 14, 8 and my husband along with our dog. Was so helpful to have a pet friendly place. Thanks so much Robin! We hope to be back.

Location was great for our needs. The quirky design with small bedroom was a bit challenging. Also, would've appreciated the outside table and chairs to have been cleaned as well as the refrigerator to have been less full of other people's food. Check in was easy as was checking out.

Great spot!
Felt very homey! Had everything we needed. Easy to find. Will stay again!

This cottage has a lot going for it, starting with the neighborhood. Inside, it has a lot of potential but for the first time, I can’t recommend it at all for these reasons, among others:
1. It’s over-priced.
2. It has several worrisome hazards:
(1) the bedroom-bathroom “suite” has a power problem, so that the breakers switch off if a hair dryer or a space heater is used: I was told to use the space heaters on the lowest temperature. It was 48 outside, “feels like 44”, and I’m supposed to keep the heaters on low? That’s what I’m paying for? I don’t think so. This episode happened four times during my 2 1/2 week stay.
(2) The bathtub is not only in dire need of an overhaul, it is dangerously slippery: it lacks non-slip grips, a no-slip bath mat and has nothing to hold on to.
(3) The gas stove has weird instructions and needs a lighter to ignite. It takes quite a few tries to start a burner and by then the gas fumes are dizzying.
Aside from the hazards, the place has a very negligent upkeep: things like the coffee maker, the dish rack and a few other appliances are filthy. The sink is having drain problems. The towels are tattered and stained. For that period of time, for example, the two bottles of liquid soap had less than 1” left and both were watered down. The oldest trick in the book.
Again, I'm sorry to say it isn’t worth it.

Comfortable, easy, quiet, great neighborhood
Loved being here, was great for three of us, I don’t think I’d want to stay here with 7 people as it would be pretty crowded.. very comfortable master bed and sheets but bed is a double just FYI. Very happy with the place and the ease of staying here.

Comfy, quiet and super walkable
My dog and I had a great time hanging out in this tucked away in-law house. It is a great space - lots of natural light. The bed was comfy. Everything was clean. And you are so close to great food on Solano Ave. fabulous!
