We really enjoyed our stay, big rooms came with fans

Beautiful property, great location. A breathe of fresh air (literally) from your run of the mill hotel.

Inside the room is very nice.

Breakfast was very basic. Limited capacity for seating. Very limited selection. We arrived for breakfast one morning and there was barely anything left, nothing was replaced. The staff at breakfast were not particularly welcoming.
Rooms although spotlessly clean, were very dark and the hairdryer was useless!

Awesome star easy checkin

Such a good experience with the property.

I can’t wait to go back! It was cleaning, it was well decorated and the staff was exceptionally helpful! Loved how convenient it was to downtown Monterey. Easy to park as long as you get there early. The only thing that was lacking was the breakfast but they make it very clear that it is not a warm breakfast.

Professional staff and nicely maintained property.

Classic Monterey hotel in perfect location.

Always clean and staff is always friendly! Nice continental breakfast to give you a boost!

When we arrived at Merritt House hotel, the girls were welcoming, courteous and accommodating. They went out of their way to wish us a Happy Anniversary and my birthday. The best part of our stay was everything is walking distance to restaurants and Fisherman's Wharf. Their is a great Farmer's Market on Tuesdays 4-8pm. For the price of room, I don't feel parking should be charged and more investment needs to be done on more comfortable mattresses. I would consider staying at and recommending to stay there if improvements are made. Otherwise Merritt House Hotel is in a perfect location, nice patio area, includes Continental breakfast and staff are Great.

Such a cute place. Loved the room. Very comfortable and decorated nicely. Parking is available but very tight. Easy walk to the pier. Would definitely stay again.

Broken tiles on fireplace, loose and flickering lamps, extremely bad smelling fridge, but it was not clear there was no ac. Fine, except the was absolutely ZERO outlets for the fan, unless we plugged it into the bedside alarm clock. And when we opened the balcony, which felt unsafe, the neighbors were smoking all night. It was hot hell to sleep there.

Room was very comfortable and large.

What a great stay! I really had been so happy with this stay!
I have been traveling using various hotels for 15 year on now and this one is certainly at the top of my list of a great stays. The room was so expansive, so much room and everything was CLEAN! I am a professional house cleaner and it was at my standards. Everything was wiped down, spotless and in good condition!
The other reviews mention needs for updates and I can only say that for the thermostat on the grounds I couldn't tell how to work it, but it wasn't even needed, it never got hotter than 68 F while we were staying there.
The staff was wonderful, friendly and helpful. The parking was limited but simple. The whole time we were there we didn't hear much but I also believe not many other guests were there.
The design and features of the room were so elegant and beautifully done. It was a great blend of upscale modern with a cottage charm. All the rooms have a balcony, wish they weren't connected, but it had chairs and table and it was so beautiful and peace there.
The continental breakfast was lovely and they served it with real bowls, plates and cloth napkins which I have never experienced before. They even had actual keys for the rooms not a card which I found so charming.
We only stayed one night so the price was perfect for us and I'm not sure if it would have been as affordable for more days with less of a last minute of a booking, but I would more than likely thinking of this property if we return

The room itself was ok aside from the musty dampness. I did like the room layout and the bathroom looked recently updated. For the price of the room I was shocked at having to pay an additional $20.00 a night for parking. I was told I could park in a municipal parking garage a couple blocks away for the same price.
Would I stay here again? For the price, not a chance.

All the major sites were walkable or take the free trolley.

This is a VERY tired hotel.

Loved my stay at the Merritt hotel, they were extremely friendly and accommodating and beautiful grounds. It was also a stone's throw away from the conference center which made my conference much easier.

No hot water!

Nice charming little inn. Convenient location however the noise from the street kept me up all night. Lots of loud motorcycles driving through until midnight. Water pressure was decent and place was very clean. Front desk lady was very nice and accommodating.
4.0
A nice, non-chain choice that is very convenient to the convention center and waterfront.

My family and I stayed there for one night. The location is great. The staff were friendly. It is a quite old facility but very charming.

I probably wouldn’t suggest staying here, especially in the summer. No ac and all you are given is a single stand up fan. It was uncomfortably hot to sleep in the room. The ice machine is outside and contained dirt and small insects. Besides that, it is in a great location and the price is fair- maybe in cooler months it would be worth it.

We had a king room that faced the parking lot, which was not ideal, but the furnishings were beautiful. Room was small but comfortable. Great location, we easily walked to Fisherman’s Wharf, Alvarado Street market, and had access to a number of different restaurants. Quick trip by car or tram to Cannery Row.

I loved everything about this hotel, especially the private parking space (which could be included in the price), the landscaped inner courtyard and its historic background. May I suggest more GF options for breakfast? Even if not on display, some frozen GF bread available on demand would have been a great asset to complement the generous options of condiments.

It was very close to everything I needed access to. It was quiet. The only downside is that parking is $20/d on to of your stay, so make sure to factor that in if you bring a car.

Very old, run down hotel with thin walls, loud traffic and neighbor noise, hard bed, no air conditioner. Good location but not worth it.

Great place for a quick getaway

The room was comfortable and clean but the pictures of the charming quaint cottage like property did not match with the actual place. However it was very conveniently located close to and easy walk to/from the marina, and they let me park my car in their lot even after checkout time.

Merritt House is lovely.

Historic charm doesn’t have to mean leaky pipes and poor amenities. This boutique hotel has coffee pots in rooms, power towers and free WiFi. Fireplaces in the rooms are a nice touch. Walkable to the wharf, Cannery Row, art galleries, beach and aquarium. Lots of dining and shopping options. Beds are comfy and rooms are off the street so nice and quiet.

The thing I did not like, is very noisy leaves blower, that sound like laud sport car motor. They start it before 8:30 am on Friday morning and wake us up of course. Expected better breakfast options. Otherwise nice small boutique hotel.

We were very happy with the building, history, location to all the fun places and restaurants Monterey has. Front desk, check-in and room/maid service were helful and accommodationg. We had a wonderful time and will return for another quick get-away.

Quiet. Love the in-room fireplace.

The lobby staff was very friendly, the room was cozy and I loved the nature-like decorations (pine cone wreaths, squirrel statues, leaf holding tray). I have walked by this hotel 100s of times, and am glad I finally got a chance to stay there with my wife for a quick weekend "stay-cation". We said we'd happily stay there again, especially since it's so close to our favorite wine by near Fisherman's Wharf

Very cute property, nice large rooms, staff were very nice and the breakfast provided was great!

Very good location except limited parking space
