Very nice traditional Japanese hotel that provided a beautiful experirence.

Air conditioning didn’t work in room and room had scratch marks on the wall. Doesn’t have laundry machines so couldn’t clean clothes after being outside in the heat all day

Our family had a great experience staying at Ryokan Kinoe. It has all the traditional Japanese accommodations. Large rooms, tatami floors, Japanese kimono/ robes, experience public bath if you want but each room has it’s own bath, shower & separate toilet. Very quiet area but walking distance to Gion/ downtown area of Kyoto, temples & shrines. The traditional Japanese meal/ dinner is also a must experience! Excellent place to stay & the staff is very friendly & helpful. Highly recommended!

Great location! The staff was very helpful throughout our stay. The traditional Japanese tatami-style rooms provided us with a great experience for our family.

Amazing place! Great way to experience Japan.

Excellent experience for my teenager, who loves Japanese culture; the check in was excellent, very personal and made us feel special ad welcome; the room was spacious and typical of a Ryokan with tatami floor and futon; service in front desk and in restaurant was awesome, highly recommended.

Great location - excellent

This is definitely a no for me. Not clean enough and the quality of food and accommodation is far from what I have paid for. I do not recommend it.
People are nice though.

This was a beautiful and clean Ryoksn hotel - the food for dinner was wonderful and the service so friendly. The futons were not the most comfortable to sleep on but the room was very spacious with an alcove for sitting (but only two actual chairs). The onsen was small and not the most aesthetic, but fortunately was alone in the bath.
4.5
This ryokan has very nice and spacious rooms and friendly staff. The public bath is a bit small but there are not many guests at the ryokan so it was not a problem. The breakfast is tasty and has quite a few options.
4.5
Quiet and clean property. We got to experience a traditional Japanese-style room. Lobby was a little warm but the room was cool and comfortable. Room was spacious for our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teens). Property was close to many sites and shopping areas. The staff were very helpful. We left our phone in an Uber and the hotel staff were so helpful in getting the phone back for us. Would definitely stay here again.
4.5
Great location in the Gion area. Room was nice, futons on the floor were a little tight and pillows were hard, but overall the room was comfortable. Nice to have sink outside the toilet and shower room. Breakfast was served in dining room.
4.5
The property was rather basic and the limited staff were not the friendliest folk. Everywhere else we stayed or visited in Japan felt welcoming; the Kinoe felt like we were an intrusion. No one helped us "figure out" how to use the room (where light switches were, how to turn off the extremely noisy room fan, how to work the noisy AC, etc.). No greeting whenever you would arrive back at the hotel. It felt cold and univiting.

Very nice staff, close to shopping, food options, landmarks and very walkable

This is the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in! Room was big, clean, and incredibly beautiful. Breakfast was amazing. Staffs were very nice. Excellent location as well.
4.5
Nice from the outside. Other rooms are apparently nice, but the one we got was terrible. Cramped, not Japanese style. No amenities.
No service. Restaurant is only availabile to people who pre pay days ahead. They will nkt let you make reservations the day of. Black hairs in the bathrooma nd floor were gross.
Apparently there were public baths tbat were part of the experience, but no one mentioned them to us. We paid more for this room than 2 previous 5star hotels in tokyo and Osaka. Thought we were paying for an experience, but got hotel that felt like a motel.
4.5
This is a great location right in Gion, and a classic Japanese style in. We ended up booking two days, one with the meal plan and one without. The meal was very well prepared traditional Japanese fare, everything tasted very good and was well prepared. The service in the room was very cool as well.
We wanted to experience the more classical Japanese tradition, so we stayed in the room with the futons directly on the floor. I loved the experience, but did find the futon lacked the padding I was hoping for, so if you find yourself in a similar situation, what I did was make use of the additional blankets provided to add some padding, and it worked very well.

Somewhat old And smelled of cigarettes

This hotel was wonderful. We got the large traditional room with the garden and it was wonderful.
4.5
Wonderful atmosphere, gardens, decor, and meals. A relaxing retreat. Breakfast was a particular treat of tradition and taste.

We enjoyed staying at the Ryokan The Kinoe. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The dinner and breakfast were great.

The ryokan experience is great. Amazing food at dinner (served in your room) and breakfast in the restaurant. Onsen is on sight.

This is a great spot in Kyoto. Tons of temples and gardens in easy walking distance. You can also walk to pontocho alley and Nishiki market easily. An area with beautiful antique shop is a few blocks away. Even if only so do shopping.
The rooms were very comfortable. Well stocked with cold water and tea you can make yourself. Lovely tea set in room. Keurig coffee or tea in the lobby area for at will use.
Very friendly staff. Though some members did not speak English well. Google translate on your smart phone helped communicate. The staff was ready to make restaurant suggestion of all types. Noodle house to sushi.
Look forward to staying here the next time we are in Kyoto.

Although the room was spacious and clean, the futons were very uncomfortable. It is in a nice location in Gion, close to beautiful streets, but not so close (15min walk) to a train station.
Bring your eye masks as the room is very light in the morning.
4.5
Beautiful ryokan in a great location! The staff are so friendly and accommodating and the entire place is very very clean, only complaint is the beds are very uncomfortable for a forigners standards the futon cushion is almost non existent and you will feel like sleeping on hard floor with an uncomfortable pillow.. but otherwise amazing experence!
4.5
Beautiful property - accommodations, meals and service outstanding as were the baths. In a great area close to shopping, temple, etcetera.
4.5
Excellent staff with a comfortable, traditional room. Food was delicious and well prepared and staff were helpful with everything we asked.
4.5
This was my first experience in a ryokan and I enjoyed it a lot: the traditional room, the bath, the super, breakfast and the friendliness of the staff. A great place to relax in Kyoto
4.5
Disappointing. Not good value for money and not impressed by this Ryohan. We paid a lot for a Japanese Ryohan experience but not worth it. The staffs have very limited English and a bit ignorant with the guests. Difficult to figure out what and how to do in the hotel as a foreigner. Traditional breakfast was not tasty and we all think we can easily get better food elsewhere. Japanese garden is very small and not that pretty. The view is shared by lobby and the only one garden view room. All in all, we don’t think it meet our expectations for a Japanese Ryohan culture experience.
4.5
Very unique experience of a more traditional style ryokan. Very much enjoyed the comfort of our stay and the kindness of the staff

Great location, friendly staff.

A lovely Ryokan. Staff was welcoming, dining was very tasty - if you like fish! The futon was very comfortable, breakfast was elaborate and filling. It’s a nice place to experience Japanese culture, very different from a western hotel
4.5
Location is very convenient, bus stop just outside of the property, walkable to Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Ryozen Kannon. First time Japanese style tatami futon bed experience, love it. Enjoy the Japanese dining option, serve in the room, so many small dishes that me and my wife keep discussing about how it looks and how it tastes and forgot to take pictures… Highly recommended and will stay again next time in Kyoto.

There’s nothing not to love about Kinoe!
The staff are warm, welcoming and positively charming,. The facility is beautifully appointed and the room was spacious and lovely. We only stayed one night but from the moment we stepped inside it felt welcoming and comfortable.
The staff were attentive and nearly psychic in attending to our needs with helpful tips and suggestions that enabled us to see much more than I thought we would.
The location is a quick walk from many attractions in the Gion area and when we’d walked over 15k steps it was a quick cab or train ride to get back.
We contemplated renting kimono nearby - there are a dozen shops within a block or two (would recommend reservations for some of the nicer shops) but decided against it as it was raining.
Had it not been the first visit to Kyoto for some of our party, we could have happily stayed in at Kinoe and relaxed there - the folks in our group that did try the public bath came back and said that they had never been so relaxed.
I will definitely recommend this ryokan!

Fantastic traditional Japanese hotel with great traditional Japanese breakfast. Wonderful hotel and staff. Highly recommend this hotel!

The baths are not very nice. The rooms are very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. Expensive for what it was.

Extremely helpful and humble staff. Very traditional style Japanese hotel.
4.5
Very traditional Ryokan in a popular location for easy walking distance to lovely shrines, parks and temples. Access to rapid transit within walking distance.

Great location and the hosts were very sweet and helpful.

Quintessential traditional Japanese Ryokan. Showing its age.
