We stayed Thursday and Friday nights. The Thursday was really weird; empty, staff hard to find etc. The room itself is definitely 3* and no more, but the beds/linen etc are clean and good quality. It’s more of a high end conference centre than a hotel. The first breakfast was equally odd, no one from the hotel spoke to us at all!
We ate in Lieden both nights, which with a hired bike was great.
Second breakfast was a totally different experience and what I’d expect from a hotel.
The grounds of the castle (which isn’t the accommodation or dining room etc) were excellent. Well kept and tidy.
Overall, weekend service was great. Mid week less so.

Absolutely worth it. Went in mid spring, and the grounds are gorgeous, lovely to explore or take a stroll in. The area was lovely too - cute little shops, restaurants, and charming old houses on cobblestoned streets. Very peaceful, safe, and quiet. 15 minute walk to the nearest bus station to head into Leiden Centraal (nearest major train station), so transport is still coinvent.

nice place and good environment, however, restaurant was closed because of wedding which it was in another building!

It is very nice place: quite and gorgeous, and 3 stars rank it right. Yet, having mini-fridge and security safe box would add value to rooms.

I thought the room would be at the building shown on the picture, but it wasn't. But everything else was perfect.

Check in process took time. I unfortunately had very noisy neighbours at after 11pm and had to get dressed and complain to reception. It was resolved eventually but not the best nights sleep

Absolutely stunning scenery in the countryside to go with quiet, quaint hotel rooms. The escape from loud, busy city life was wonderful and the staff there was welcoming and accommodating. The breakfast buffet had a little bit of everything as well. Wish we had stayed longer and will definitely be back!

The only negative I had was check in..we arrived at 2:50pm check in is at 3pm. She refused to check us in and we sat and stared at her until 3pm.and then she would check us in. Ridiculous if you ask me, wasn't as if we were hours early. The restaurant could use more options, but the room was very nice with a door to the terrace

we expected to stay in the castle. now we were staying in a side building which was not so special in terms of room and location. Price-value rating was lower then expected and if we would have known this we would have choosen a room eslewhere.

The locations is wonderful. The hotel is just a 20 minute or so walk from the train station and central Leiden, but you feel like you're on a rural estate. I enjoyed walking around the property and seeing the many large old trees and hearing and seeing many species of birds.

Front desk staff were excellent. The property is quiet and we considered this one of our best stays in Holland.

Beuatiful area, silent and no disturbance at night. Though very strange that they set alarm on the door at night. We were forgotten to hang out the “ no disturbance” tag - on opening the door laate at night, an alarm went off and woke up the other guests. That gave a strange feeling of beeing watched and beeing “ trapped “for no reason

Beautiful setting for hotel in Leiden, surrounded by trees and path for a morning walk. The bar and food were lovely. A very relaxing hotel - ideal for business trip for time out city

Nice and quiet hotel with beautiful scenery and just about within walking distance of Leiden. The castle itself is very pretty and the rooms are new and modern with clean decor. Staff are extremely friendly and show great hospitality. The restaurant is nice too but slightly pricey!

Room nice and clean but no on room safe, no fridge or information on the hotel and surrounding area
Breakfast expensive
If you are elderly or disabled there is no lift and no-one to help with bags
One very good thing is the staff, especially the recepionist Linda. Extremely helpful, knowledgable and a delight to deal with . Full marks !

Remarkable location in the near suburbs of Leiden. Inexpensive bike rentals and flat bike lanes all the way to town make this an easy 10-15 minute ride to Leiden center. (It would probably be an hour's walk.) There are a few restaurants in the neighborhood within 15 mins walking, but one needs to cab or bike into town for the selection and price range Leiden offers. The hotel looks like a favorite place for weekenders, empty nesters. The restaurant is positioned as an elegant site for dining--breakfast and lunch also served. We were on university business (and budgets), so we did not use it, but headed into town for sustenance. The immediate environs of the hotel is amazing, you are surrounded by majestic beech forest that conveys you back a century in time. The hotel is not in the castle, which is used for special event rentals, but rooms are 100m away in a nicely-appointed annex of rooms. They were nicely appointed, modest-sized, clean, and amply sufficient. Front desk staff cordial and helpful. We booked there because the Leiden hotels were full, and for the experience, I am glad we did.

The hotel was nice enough and the grounds were beautiful. The room had a great access to the garden and the meals we ate there were also good. Our biggest problem was that the bathroom had a horrible urine smell.

Room as basic as a F1 hotel. A wedding took over all facilities from guests, without prior warning, so could not even enjoy a bar drink.

The hotel was good. If you are looking for something different then this may be your hotel. It is a little outside the city but in a good neighbourhood, and surrounded by green space. We were able to walk into town but it may be a bit far for some. The room was comfortable, nothing to complain about, our room even had a patio.

STAYED HERE TO VISIT CASTLE, AND ONLY AVAILABLE ON WEEKENDS. IT IS FAR FROM ANYTHING, STAFF NOT HELPFUL, ROOM COLD, ONLY FRONT DOOR OPEN ANYTIME, HAD TO WALK AROUND BUILDING TO GET IN FROM PARKING LOT. BARS ON WINDOWS. MAKES YOU FEEL NOT VERY SAFE. ROOM WAS CLEAN , BUT VERY, VERY PLAIN. ALMOST FELT LIKE YOU WERE STAYING IN A PRISON. WOULD NOT STAY THERE AGAIN

Did the job, couple of nights stay in Leiden. Well positioned with buses to train station, don't try to park in Leiden. Regular trains to Amsterdam. Hotel portrays the image of the old building, but that is for business conferences and weddings and the like. You stay to the side in a 60's style building with no air con in bedrooms, so 30C the day I arrived and the room was uncomfortable. Limited parking if hotel is full.

It was an okay stay. I would consider the Landgoed Kasteel Oud Poelgeest more of a guesthouse than a Hotel. It has nice surroundings being in the middle of a park-like woods. It is a good distance away from Leiden itself.
The bathroom could use a door on the shower and the sitting inside the room is limited to one chair....wenn you book a room for two I would expect two full size chairs. For a short 2-3 night stay it's okay.
I also consider the breakfast for a rate of 15 Euro pretty expensive since the choices of Foods are very limited.

The room is clean. The kettle in bedroom is very important for my need. I encountered no problem with the service.

Good mix of the old and new in this nice, clean and comfortable hotel built in a modern annex of the old coach house of this beautiful mansion. Very quiet location in lovely small park. The old coach house where dinner and breakfast are served has beautiful paintings by local artists on display and provides a very relaxing setting to start the day. Ideal base for bulbfield tour. Free parking.
