Helpful frontdesk
6.0 / 10.0
The front desk staff seemed very friendly and helpful. The public areas were clean and tidy.
The negative aspects were:
Excessive noise / loud conversations
No posted signs re. noise policy. In fact, there seemed to be no noise policy as the patio (ground floor level) allowed people well into the night (11:30pm) and really early in the morning (5:30am) The public areas of the hotel were *extremely* echoey and thus it was very important to have signs re. noise and loud conversations.
A minor negative> the rooms lacked "do not disturb" door knob signs to alert the room service staff.

Staff handled our issues great. Big rooms for double beds. King size beds available. 3 min walk to down town. No parking. It has an elevator. No restaurant or bar.

Loved staying at the Happy Express. The staff was excellent and very helpful and friendly. Rooms are nice and clean and beds are on the harder side which I like. AC works well and you get woken up by a lot of birds that come to the courtyard. We'll be back!

Good clean hotel

Good and central location. There is a birds nest next to the hotel which was annoying to be woken up by every morning at 0700.
Other than that it’s a good hotel.

The place was very clean with colorful and interesting decor. The courtyard in the middle was very inviting though we didn't take the time to enjoy it. The staff are very friendly. The neighbourhood is, well Mexico, but it is only 3 blocks to the Zocalo, so an excellent location. If you are tall your knees may hit the wall when you sit on the toilet.

Nice hotel with very friendly staff just a few blocks from the main plaza, many restaurants, museums, great shopping, gym, chocolate shops, chill coffee shops. There is a kitchen area. The courtyard features several umbrella tables where you can eat or drink. They also provide recycling bins on site. Affordable and convenient.

The hotel is pretty central to everything, just a short walk to the zocalo and restaurants. The hotel is away from the city noise which is nice. The staff is really nice and helpful and the rooms are super clean. There are no luxuries, this hotel is very minimalist and the bed was a little hard. However, it was good for a short visit in Oaxaca and a safe distance to walk during the night.

Door security, bathroom was slippery as it was in a slope and bed was not comfortable at all! No security box!

This place was really wonderful. The outdoor space is nice and relaxing, staff is great, the cleaning staff cleaned the room to spotless every day. It’s pretty close to Mercado Benito Juárez and zocalo square (4-6 blocks) but a little far and a little dark to walk alone as a solo female. Although this is true for most cities. The shower had great hot water and pressure, the tv had tons of channels, both Mexican and American channels (in English). 2 small gripes: the mattress was very hard and extremely uncomfortable. Maybe some of the rooms have new mattresses, I’m not sure. I had a lot of hip and back pain and had trouble sleeping on it. Second, the door to the room had only one tiny lock on the knob which would have been very easy to break into. I’ve traveled extensively all over the world and never had a hotel that didn’t have a deadbolt or additional lock. Just a thought, but some added security would be nice.

Solid hotel! Affordable, clean, and only a 5 min walk to the Zocalo (main square in the center of town).

The hotel was great. Staff was amazing. The room was perfect with a large shower with lots of hot water. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. The patio was an oasis and colorful. This hotel was perfect in every way for me. I will stay here upon my return to Oaxaca.

We have stayed in a lot of hotels in various Mexican cities and this has to be one of the best we have encountered. The room is clean, the bed is comfortable and the shower has tons of hot water and good pressure. The air conditioning works well and the staff is friendly. This hotel is close to all of the major attractions and I would say it is a Mexican 3 star hotel (the star system is a bit loose in Mexico lol). This place is small but gives you all you need. What more could you ask for? Don't ask my wife this question about anything...just kidding.

Hotel was in a great location - away from the main crowds but still in the Centro. The rooms were super clean (GREAT cleaning staff) and the central patio was delightful. While it was helpful to have an elevator, it was pretty loud and could be heard at night (we used ear plugs). We enjoyed our stay and loved Cafe Alex, which is around the corner. Packed with locals, the food was plentiful and yummy.

The location is great. The rooms are clean but small, no dresser only a table/nightstand. The beds are very firm, too hard for my liking. The bathrooms are outdated and have poor ventilation. Shower is very slippery. Friendly staff and service.

This hotel is in a busy part of town. The staff were not very helpful. Two of the guys working the front desk were always in a bad mood and annoyed whenever I asked a question. I canceled my stay half way through the 8 days I had paid. The management agreed to refund me the nights, however, it’s been over two weeks and they haven’t do so. I tried reaching them through the Travelocity portal but they never replied. Stay at the Holiday Inn Express instead. It’s nicer and in a better part of town.
