Very good as always which is why we visit as often as we can. Excellent dog friendliness which is important to us as well as good food.

A very enjoyable stay at the Castle Hotel, the food was of a high quality , the rooms to a good standard with an exceptionally comfortable bed. The staff were fantastic and really made us feel welcome. Bishop’s Castle is a very picturesque town but there are few shops of note if you are looking to go antique or curiosity shopping , primarily this is a good base to explore the surrounding area which has some of my favourite places to visit in England .

Fantastic hotel, fantastic staff looking forward to returning in the near future

This was my second stay at this hotel whilst on business with a colleague. The location is great, food was very nice and general service was good - I stayed in room 9 (colleague in room 12) and whilst I appreciate that it was cold/snowing outside the bedroom was very cold. I am a hot sleeper so this is never usually an issue but after trying to turn the radiators on full I ended up resorting to warming the room with the hair dryer!
At breakfast my colleague had the same issue and put extra layers on to sleep.
I mentioned this at reception during checkout and was told that they think something may have tripped and apologised.
Unfortunately, I would find it difficult to book again following this experience.

Lovely friendly place with good food - great location for our short stay in Shropshire.

Great quirky place to stay, staff are excellent and attentive. I would have given 5 stars only the toilet leaked and the shower was faulty. But the rest of it more than made up for those minor things. If you like ales, this is a well kept cellermanship. Walks locally are brilliant and the hotel gets full marks for their enthusiastic info on them.

Excellent all round. Fabulous dining, would highly recommend.

Lovely spot, with great food. Very pet friendly, even gave our dog sausages for breakfast. We had a large room with small courtyard which was perfect. Highly recommended

Stayed for a long weekend with a partner and dog. Staff were super friendly and attentive.
Breakfast was delicious and provided daily walks and info which was really helpful!
Beautiful spot and super dog friendly, with dog washing facilities as well as complimentary sausage for your dog at breakfast and doggy box in the room on arrival provided towels / dog blankets and bowl.
We will definitely stay again!

We enjoyed our 2-night stay. It's a good location for exploring the surrounding Shropshire Hills. The distant views are lovely. Unfortunately, there was some renovation work being carried out on the patio, so we weren't able to sit out to enjoy the best views. There is on-site hotel parking. Our room was comfortable, but we would have preferred not to have a bath in the bedroom, as it restricted the space in the room a bit. The shower was fine. The breakfast was good and the staff were very friendly. We would definitely use this hotel again.

What a great hotel! A very warm welcome for us and the dog, including a special doggy box in the room which was a nice touch.Breakfast was fabulous, dinner was tasty, beer was excellent but the best part has to be the stunning garden and terrace with views across to the hills.A wonderful 2 night stay and would highly recommend.

Wonderful break in the heart of the Shropshire hills. Hotel is very well run but still retains a quirkyness, central to the town of Bishops Castle. We enjoyed our stay but would advise against staying in Room 9 as it was right up amongst the eaves

Charming and well maintained in a picturesque town.

Great character property and value. Pet friendly, wonderful food, real fires and history all round.

A lovely old hotel, a bit quirky. The uneven floors were hilarious, one proceeded about in little downhill runs and staggers which all added to the fun. Staff are super, friendly and efficient with nothing too much trouble. Food was very good and the whole place had a lovely ambience and the views around were superb. Altogether a very good visit and would go there again.

I very rarely find the need to post warnings or bad reviews about hotels, but in this case I feel the owners are taking their customers for granted. The Castle Hotel is an old building with charm and character that befits its setting among the Shropshire Hills. The staff are pleasant and, breakfast was very good indeed, but there the positives end. Our room (#9) was a tiny corner attic conversion that is so narrow that the slopping roof-line cuts into the corner of the door. The only place two tall residents can stand upright is directly next to the wall on the right, for the six foot or so space to the bed, which itself is positioned beneath slopping dormer roof-lines. There are bedside tables and a sideboard, but these cant be reached without stooping down, which is painful for someone with spine problems. I have never stayed in a room anywhere near as small and uncomfortable as this. The small double bed comprises of a 9 high solid-top divan base that presumably once had an accompanying sprung-base top section. The mattress was the foam-block type that one normally finds sold with children beds. Consequently we did not have the one thing that you might expect from a hotel stay: a decent nights sleep. As an aside, the room was very warm during the night; was overlooked by the dormer window next room along; had cobwebs around the light fittings; had a dirty toilet seat hinge-area; had a loose toilet roll holder; and the shower tap has a mind of its own.

What a lovely hotel. Everything about it was excellent, the staff, the room, the experience. So friendly, polite and helpful, the staff offered a great service. The room was very comfortable and clean, the tea/coffee faciliies were excellent with a bottle of water provided and a bottle flask for use on walks, and ample sachets of tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits. Our breakfast was included in the package and included full English, continental, various alternatives to the full English, and vegetarian and vegan options. It was served by extremely pleasant staff and the food was presented beautifully. Would definitely recommend a visit and stay to this hotel. The views were beautiful from our room and there were lovely garden facilities.

Small, independant hotel in a pleasant location, also a pub. Rooms big enough, old building though and not a straight wall in the place. Restaurant was decent enough. Large and well maintained garden for the pub with good views across the valley. free wifi.
