Very good old pub refurbished to a high standard. Very cosy lively on bar and quieter relaxing restaurant at the rear of the building. Excellent evening meal and breakfast. Room was very comfortable.
2.5
Cozy bar and restaurant. Great vibe, fabulous meal and breakfast. Olde Worlde feel.
2.5
Very nice staff, good pub style accommodation. No complaints.
2.0
Great location and lovely accommodation. There were problems with getting a drink in the evening and service at breakfast both days was really slow. However the breakfast when it arrived was delicious! Hopefully these service issues can be sorted out

Lovely place with cosy, clean rooms. The breakfast was superb, and is situated centrally to everything in Oakham. Highly recommended 👍👍👍👍👍

An enjoyable stay. Lovely, friendly staff.

Accommodation itself was basic but serviceable. Comfort was disappointing given there was no hot water or heating.
And with this being an outside courtyard room it was particularly cold. Breakfast was ok but not special. Service mediocre.
2.5
Exemplary service and friendliness

Really enjoyed our stay, lovely friendly staff and the food was very nice. My only negative was that we were staying in rooms accessed by crossing the gravel car park. The gravel was slippery in the ice and needed a bit of sand and their was no outside lighting.
Other than that, lovely and will definitely come again.

The matress was smaller than the bedframe and very uncomfortable.

Staff are fantastic- as I suffer from chronic back problems I feel that the mattress needed changing
I couldn’t fault the staff - breakfast choices were great

Hotel was nice , the food is lovely and the staff are too. my only gripe was in my room, room 3 the aerial didnt fit the tv so nothing to watch when i went to my room. I stated in the same room in January 23 and it was the same. I spoke to night manager, who looked at it. and couldnt fix it. he mentioned taking something off my bill and then said he would look to see if he had another room but he didnt come back to me.

Room very dark and bed needed a new mattress. No window to open so went to put tower fan on in middle of night and the top came away from bottom. On a good note the breakfast was fabulous.

Very good facilities, great food and relaxed atmosphere. The staff were helpful and pleasant too.

nice room, good food, we had dinner in the restaurant as well as breakfast, service in the evening was not the best, other than the manager who was very good and squeezed us in at the last minute, but the the young waitress in the evening would benefit from some training in basic customer skills, she didn't smile once, asked us if we wanted desert menus when she cleared our starter plates?? then when we did request desert meus she just dropped them on the table and walked off. We had room3 which was a good size, and clean, but there were areas that have obviously been missed, behind the door in the bathroom the skirting boards were covered in dust, the bedside lamps were the same, which as the rest of the room was very clean seemed strange. the room would benefit from thick curtains instead of the double blind, and there is a noise issue, from outside, when people were leaving the pub, and possibly from other establishment's along the road, but it sounded like a football match had turned out, which went on until 12.30am and then again at 3am there were people outside, not a lot the pub can do about this, but worth knowing if are considering staying, ask for a room at the rear of the building. We would have not have wanted to stay longer in the room we had, but when we booked it was the only room available, other rooms looked to be of a good size and as above there are rooms to the rear of the property that may be less noisy.

Great staff. Tiny carpark caused some issue getting out but would stay again.

We stayed for 3 nights, the room was perfect plenty of clean towels. The lady came for daily cleaning. The restaurant food was amazing. Great location. Overall I would highly recommend and will be back next year.

Just great. Lovely town, lovely coaching inn.

The room was spacious with a quirky layout, but in a lovely way. Would definitely recommend.

Peaceful room in rear courtyard away from pub

Lovely food and nice room. Problem was noise. Floors bound to be creaky in such an old building but periodically it sounded like someone was banging on our door. We think it was because the doors did not fit well and as the staff went up to bed, our door banged but unfortunately that was very late at night and woke us several times. Extractor from kitchen was below our room but did go off at 10pm.

We have stayed here 3 times before and have enjoyed our stay. The bedrooms are en suite and have lovely beds and the towels are big

Welcome upon arrival not good. Waited for 10 minutes while one barmaid served a group of people. She didn't even acknowledge us. Second barmaid appeared and started polishing glasses, my husband told her we were waiting to check in and she told him she'd finish the glasses first! This said the room was nice and the breakfast was great. Breakfast staff much better.

Great location for a stay in comfort large room with fabulous en-suite and a great breakfast

Our attic room was very hot and due to the prevalence of midges, we were unable to open a window. Also the quilt on the bed was something like 15 tog.

We were a little early arriving, but asked if we were able to have a table and lunch. We were handed the key to our room and told that a table would be ready for us when we came down. Yes, the hotel building is old therefore has creaky floorboards, but our room was large, clean and I suppose described as 'shabby chic'. There was a little noise at night when the door next to ours was used for the staff to get to their overnight accommodation, and the heating system could also be heard early morning. The food and staff were both excellent. Parking is a bit 'tight' at the back of the hotel, but we always managed to find a space. The location of the hotel is in the main street which was very convenient, but our room was at the back so not sure whether or not there was any noise in the front rooms.Overall, we had a comfortable, enjoyable short break and we would certainly recommend and return ourselves.

We paid for a premium en-suite room, the room was in a converted loft space. As a result although appearing to be spacious the head room on three sides of the room was limited. The natural light was provided by four skylights and two tiny side windows at floor level. There was a larger window at the bottom of the stairs opposite the bathroom that overlooked another roof. The blind on this window was damaged. The blinds on the skylights were poorly fitted and semi-transparent and therefore did not provide any blackout. The furniture was tired and the drawers on the bed side units fell out when opened. The bathroom ceiling was papered and painted. The paper was peeling in several places. The emergency lighting as positioned in such away as to cast light into the room rather than downwards creating a strange ethereal glow when other lights were out. One of the bedside lights was damaged and dangerous. There was a small selection of cereal, three fruit juices and filter coffee available for breakfast with a selection of warm dishes. The food served at other times was a selection of local variants of “pub standard’ food. Although showing Wi-Fi was available it was low quality and available for any pub user, if they wish to offer Wi-Fi there system needs to be updated and specific range proceed for guests. Parking was on a first come first served basis and available to people dining at the pub and staff so limited at times. In general expensive for what it is.

Great location, room was fine, just too hot even with the radiators turned down & no windows to open
2.5
Convenient town-centre location, and not far from the station if travelling by train. Good mixture of character and modernity in the bar / dining areas, beer garden and accommodation; all well maintained.

This is a great place to stay in Oakham. This is certainly more of a B&B feel in that it is very quaint, rustic, and charming - which is exactly what we wanted. The room we stayed in was in a detached building behind the pub/restaurant, which made it more quiet and private than I was expecting. Overall great stay.
4.0
Great location and warm welcome from staff. However, I couldn’t find the parking it mentions on the listing and the single-glazed windows meant the road noise was very loud. And no curtains!

Very convenient for the delightful town of Oakham

Another fabulous stay at The Admiral Hornblower, albeit checkin was slow, staff were busy around the bar.
Room was very comfortable, the steak at dinner was superb.
2.5
This is a cosy and comfy hotel in the heart of Oakham. Room was through the courtyard on the first floor of a renovated outhouse. It was nice and warm although taller people should mind their heads. Cooked breakfast was excellent, but a nice addition would be a bit of fruit for the cereal
