This period hotel needs bringing up to date
It is tired! In saying this the servants was good and the breakfast was very good.

Lovely hotel does need a little tlc but that didn’t really deter my stay, service was lovely and breakfast was freshly cooked like the old radio style in the breakfast room

I'd like to start by saying, for the money, I was very satisfied.
After a long drive it felt very welcoming pulling up to a picturesque converted 1800s manor house with plenty of parking in the front garden area. The room itself was spacious and quiet, I opted for the double. The breakfast was freshly prepared and tasty. I didn't get a chance to try out the pool area or bar. Maybe next time!
There are some pretty grand communal rooms with impressive carpentry, antique furniture and comfortable seating areas.
Unfortunately, the interior of the bedrooms feel as though they were kitted out rather cheaply around 30 to 40 years ago. Handles are falling off doors and the furniture is similar to student accommodation. I wouldn't have minded so much except the bed was like sleeping on a ground mat. I like a firm mattress but this one was solid enough to interrupt my sleep. A bit of a shame given I paid for the double room in the vain hope it would be more comfortable. This was honestly my only problem. Other than that it was a very pleasant stay for great value.

The room was small, but it was the black mold all around the bathroom and shower, scraped paint, peeling wallpaper, toilet that variably flushed (or not), the sink faucets that would not stop running unless turned off so hard you could not open them again later, and two lonely hangers in the wardrobe that made this stay so disappointing. Lovely house, but needs some cosmetic work and maintenance on the rooms. Also - the WiFi so weak it never appeared for the room, only in the breakfast room or lounge. Such a gorgeous place, I would love to see it again restored to its old glory.

This was a weekend away for the wife's birthday, it was very convenient for day trips, also very good for local places to eat and drink,.

The hotel building is a old quirky manor house.
Staff were lovely and welcoming and explained a lot which was hard to remember but helpful.
We were in room 4 which was nice with a balcony and green view over front.
Beds were clean and comfy and tv worked but all looked like it needs a bit of TLC
But the bathroom needs help. We only stayed one night as we were travelling but didnt want to be in bathroom for long as the fan when light turned on sounded like a helicopter.... it was so loud! Plus again needs TLC and a refresh.
Breakfast was yummy and the breakfast room had everything you needed from coffee and tea to juice and fruit. You do need to fill in a breakfast form the day b4 as its run and cooked by one lady on her own as far as we could see.
There was no Wifi that either of us could pick up even tho it was advertised.
Great price and would stay again but only if it was one night.

Check in was poor, not shown to room, told to go up the stairs and turn left. Mould in bathroom, no light shade in bedroom. No hair dryer in room, very tired and worn

Lovely location and building. George greeted us and was a treasure. Breakfast was lovely if a tad manic... stressed staff... all in all great stay

Didn't realise when booking there was no evening meal or bar available. We did however have a very good breakfast.
Staff friendly and helpful.

Immensely likeable property. Unusual in that the reception rooms retained the gracious style and period of the house and my (single) bedroom was tucked away up numerous small staircases, something of a challenge for the less nimble. Indeed the lady on reception was clearly less so than I! The staff and owners were pleasant and helpful and I would certainly go again.

Staff were lovely room ok but needing some TLC whole place could be fantastic if only the owners were to invest some cash into the place. To attract cash, investment is definitely needed if this place is to survive!

The general condition of the place is terrible, I am disappointed that this was even an option to stay in. Definitely not one to return to - definitely should not be for children.
Cobwebs and dead insects everywhere. Generally unclean. Not been maintained - peeling wall paper, chipped paintwork, black mouldy caulking, noisy toilet / water waste system. Decor all very outdated - worse than the pictures show! The pool was unclean and in need of repair

We call the hotel to let them know that we were in our way and that we were going to arrive 8:30. At 8:10 they didn´t bother to answear the phone. Avoid this hotel if your are looking for flexibility and good service.

Booked for my daughter and her boyfriend but they never stayed the night. The room was disgusting with stains on bedding and carpet, had not been hoovered as food and fluff covered sweets stuck to floor, everything covered in dust and other residents told them not to use the pool as it had bought them out in a rash. Receptionist tried her best but was unable to offer alternative room as fully booked. Manager helped sort out a refund through Hotels.com on his own time. Staff seem lovely but the photos show the room was awful.

The whole stay was a disaster.
When we checked in we had to go hunting for someone as the desk was unmanned.
Once we obtained the key we were told there was no hot breakfast due to a burst pipe in the kitchen.
We were then taken to our en-suite room. Tiny, broken wardrobe, mould around the shower, extractor fan that came on with the bathroom light sounded like a Vulcan bomber starting up, Maserator intermittently coming on throughout the night.
We went for a swim in their indoor pool, the pool was crumbling, the changing rooms old and tired, grubby.
The pictures on the website are deceptively misleading. In reality the hotel requires a lot of work doing on it to make it anything like worth the money or as described in the brochures.
I would recommend you give this hotel a swerve.

When I booked I chose a ground floor room with a double bed.
On arrival we were shown to a top floor room with two single beds and was told that was all that was available.
The receptionist was informative and helpful, but told us that we needed to go to breakfast at 7.45am at the latest on the Friday and 8.30am on the Saturday.
On Friday we went down to breakfast at 7.30 to find that the water for the tea was cold and there was no bread for toast. eventually we got hot water and bread and had to wait 45 minutes for our cooked breakfast, I say cooked but the mushrooms were actually raw!
On Saturday, we went to the dining room at 8.30 am, but it was full. The chef told us to wait in the small lounge, near the dining room. After waiting about ten minutes and looking at the filthy carpet that is in there, we went back to see if there was room in the dining room but there wasn't. A female staff member saw us and suggested that we have breakfast in the large dining room that we had been told was not being used. I said that as I did not want to walk between dining rooms with my cereal, toast tea etc, We would wait for a table in the dining room where everything was. We were told to come back in 30 minutes.
We returned in 30 minutes and when we finally received our cooked breakfast it was very nice.
Just after we arrived on Thursday, I made a cup of tea in our room, The teaspoon was filthy and looked like someone had been eating tomato soup with it. It was disgusting.

I liked the old period property with the original features.

Run down hotel , the smallest tele in my room never worked and for 4 nights I had nk tele even though I reported it.

Pleasant staff, room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was lovely. Bathroom could do with a little updating and the lock on the window in my room was broken but overall it was very comfortable and well worth the money. I will definitely be staying again.

The staffcould not be more helpful sorting out our room problem. Expedia sent us a download stating we had a ground floor room but when we arrived no room was available,we needed the room because of mobility issues so very dissapointed with Expedia. However the good people at the venue got us the room we needed next day and were wonderful to us for the whole of our stay.

Excellent breakfasts! And the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Such a beautiful property from the outside and the dining room was quite historic, but everything's else wasnold dated and run down and i would never recommend this place to anyone

Large home with rooms, needs updating. The pool looked nice but it was closed. No staff on the premises after 8pm. The house was quiet and we never encountered any other guests until breakfast. Breakfast was good and fresh. Not much going on in Trowbridge.
2.5
Stay was good. Accommodated to my needs. As I was running late for check in, they allowed a late check in and was really nice about it. Breakfast was honestly really good.

The property was very dated and unloved. Not very welcoming or cosy. The gym facilities did not open until 2pm over my weekend stay but opened at 10am on my check out day of Monday. Breakfast was very poor. I had to make my selection for all 3 days of my stay on check in so the chef could have it ready for my chosen meal time. I chose scrambled eggs on toast the first morning which was done in a microwave then served on dry toast with butter on the side! Very odd and unappetising. There were only 2 breakfast guests so this shouldnt have been a problem to serve in a better manner. There were dirty cutlery on my table possibly from another guest. No spoons for cereal. No milk alternatives offered. Almost like the breakfast was a chore! The room was very old looking with a very noisy water drainage system. A loud extractor fan kicked in when the light was on. The room was dusty with a very small tv . It was up a narrow staircase...not a problem but did not feel welcoming at all. Thr " receptionist" walked me around the accommodation until the staircase then left me at the bottom. I felt this a little odd after being given the tour so to speak. I wasn't shown any of the leisure facilities apart from a cusory nod in the general direction of "it is down that corridor and turn left/right". Receptionist was pleasant. Chef was not. I stayed 1 of my 3 nights booked and do not feel it was remotely value for money at £200 im not sure what i actually paid for. Wont be rebooking!

Fieldways Hotel in Throwbridge is recommended! This is a fantastic old building that gives you the feeling of living in Fawlty Towers (comedy series). Carpets all around, strange hallways and a dungeon like atmosphere. The building is an attraction in itself. The medical books and setup of the breakfast gives you a dr Jekyll and Hide feeling.
The Spa and training (this was in early march so the darkness and cold outside helped) is cold and dark and you feel that this could be the place Harry Potter met with the troll. Nice hot water in the shower, pool fit also into the Harry Potter wibe, could be warmer, was about 24-25 degrees. I must also write about the breakfast, which fits with this. You have to give in written instructions for breakfast the day before. I got my breakfast 25 minutes late and it seems like feeding the cooks dog is more important than me. But this is also part of the fantastic feeling you have in this hote. I strongly recommend this. Have a nice stay.

The single bed had a mattress so soft my back was in agony. The shower stuck on a temperature to blister! Curtains off the rails and leaving gaps middle and ends! An awful hotel!!

I had booked a ground floor room and was on 1st floor. 1970’s bathroom in need of renovation, and toilet seat broken. In urgent need of redecoration and bed very soft. Pillows were no support for neck. Shower was trickling and Luke warm. Breakfast very minimal choice.
3.0
There was no outside lights and when we arrived it was pitch black and pouring with rain. Even a light to show where the night entrance was, which was up a small flight of stairs, would have been helpful.

The bed was so soft it gave me a back problem walking round the next day was so painfull

Lovely hotel with great staff - had to check in late after hours and the team were great at accommodating this!

Room toiletries were supposed to be provided but only one very small shower gell for the two day visit fir 2 of us. Not even enough for one shower. Very poor room tea facility in room. When I bed felt very itchy not sure how clean it was and linen not changed during stay. Breakfast good and room it was in was nice. The whole place could do with looking at as it could all be lovely. We will however not stay there again. Needs improving.

Initial first look (outside) it was idealic. However it went wrong as soon as you went in. Reception staff were pleasent enough. Hotel cleanliness was shocking, the room was out dated, dirty and upon investigation the beds were riddled with bedbugs!! We found this out too late and after we experience a very bad nights attempt at a sleep. Breakfast was pointless as we were so unhappy, feeling sick, itchy and just wanting to get out and leave.

No heating in the room. Very thin duvet. So a very cold night. TV signal so poor it was unwatchable.

Lovely lady hosting, very friendly and helpful. Great breakfast. Place needs some tlc, but for the price it's decent.
It is just a B & B with no bar or food in the evening.

Overall very poor. Requires total refurb. Felt a bit like we were in the first scene of a horror film when we first arrived.. we were led from reception to the entry door after 8pm through, what felt like, a maze of 70's style decor rooms and told to check out key worked! We were then led back, past reception and to our room. Once we managed to get thought our room door, which was really stiff, we were met with a cold and damp room. The bathroom showed evidence of at least one leak and the ceiling above the shower looked a little dodgy. The bathroom was clean and the shower was good, kept perfect temperature, so that was a positive. Our bed mattress had definitely seen better days, it was really lumpy and soft, however the sheets were clean and smelt lovely. The TV was on the small side, but didnt seem too bad in the dark! Breakfast had to be pre-ordered and was not great, both out fried eggs were hard and greasy, the baked beans were cold, mushrooms were greasy too. Bacon tasted nice. Im glad I also had some granola as i left most of my breakfast. The instant coffee tasted cheap! On the plus side, the staff were nice, if a little unorganised! I wouldn't recommend this hotel unless you cant afford anything else or there is nothing else available. The whole place looked unkept, the windows were dirty and there were broken pallets and other items in the outside area!
The hotel needs a great deal of investment!

Absolutely great staff helped i anyway possible. This nade up for the accommodation its a strange place grubby buckled carpets , exceptionally soft bed matress which was also very low making ig difficalt to get out of bed room in desperate need of decorating . The en suite was massive shower very good, it seemed strange to have odd taps in sink, but they worked.
No hairdyer in room (at least i never found one). The bedding and towels were good. Bit of a hike to breakfast room, but breakfast was ok.
Some great original wood ceilings , wall and flooring

Needs modernising, no pressure in the shower. General appeal wasnt the best.
