Lovely hotel and very nice staff. Very conveniently located in the town and for visiting the castle. We gave 4 stars for 2 reasons: 1) although they allow dogs in the rooms, they're not allowed in the breakfast room so they suggested we either left our dog in our room on her own (which we did and she barked continuously) or we breakfast separately - most places have a dog-friendly eating area; and 2) parking is quite a challenge. Otherwise, a lovely stay.

Absolutely wonderful weekend stay at the Cookie Jar. Nothing was too much trouble and would stay again anytime. Also dined in the Bistro which was excellent. Great location too.

Fabulous stay in a former convent no less! Individually decorated rooms and loads of extra touches to make your stay enjoyable. Excellent service and a wonderful breakfast (the restaurant also serves afternoon tea and dinner - we didn’t sample those but would guess they would also be lovely). The hotel is very close to a pedestrian entrance to Alnwick Castle, so is a great base to explore the castle and gardens. Parking in Alnwick seems to be free everywhere, but take care as some is time limited.

The owner, Debbie, and her staff, Lynn, Lee, Celia, and Ellie were wonderful. They were extremely warm to my husband and myself, making our stay exceptional. The room was clean, spacious with an extremely comfortable bed. The bathroom with the two sinks and large shower was fantastic. Our breakfast every morning included fresh fruit, fancy yogurt, pastries, fresh juice, coffee, tea, and assortment of hot dishes including, if desired, kippers. Alnwick Castle was literally steps from the Cookie Jar. The town itself is delightful. I highly recommend this place. fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries,

The property was lovely, the room great ,apart from having to go out down to ground floor from second floor for milk, also a mat by room door would be useful, had to enter with dirty shoes. Also maybe a few more draws as some of the furniture not suitable for storage.

From check in to breakfast we have been made most welcome by the friendly attentive staff. We were upgraded on arrival to the Holy Island room which is one of the nicest rooms we have stayed in. Will definitely look to come back possibly in the summer to enjoy the garden/ patio area.

What a beautiful hotel , the decor is done to a very high standard. Such a great find !! It’s in a good location for walking distance to everything. Breakfast was to a high standard!!

Excellent location lovely old building been kept in great condition and maintained well. decorations throughout are to a very high standard nice to see. Staff were excellent and treated us very well. Room was lovely with all the expected accessories and a wonderful walk in shower. Tv that had all the latest apps included. Would love to give it a 5* but feel the dog friendly bit should be explained in a bit more detail ie only allowed in your room not in any other room resulting in us having to have breakfast on own own. Also great to see the existing sash windows been refurbished and working well but on a windy night like last night they rattled so much i ended up putting cardboard wedged in to stop them rattling, small sash window wedges would be handy to stop this . But loved the stay

Lovely decor with interesting, whimsical touches. Our room was large and comfortable, although we found it a bit airless unless the window was open. Breakfast was ok, although cooked items were disappointing. Staff were all very nice, and location is good.

What a great place to stay. Had an amazing breakfast included with our room. Right across the street from the castle. You even get free cookies in your room when you arrive. Great touch.

Check in was friendly and efficient. Our room was quite small with a small en-suite shower room. The shower worked well. The room was a little stuffy as the window was restricted to a small opening. The service in the onsite Brasserie was friendly but the service was too fast, almost no gap between the starter and the main. The food itself was OK, the duck was over cooked but under rendered and lacking sauce. The pork was also missing a sauce and the veg wasn't properly drained. Breakfast was good The location is perfect for visiting the castle and gardens

It would be extremely difficult to find a better hotel than this anywhere or at any price. The rooms are fantastic as are all the public areas. The food is superb and the location is right in the centre of Alnwick by the entrance to the castle. Lastly the staff. Well, excellent doesn’t cover it. Without exception they were brilliant, friendly and helpful. It is not often you get a hug from hotel staff when leaving!

One of Alnwick’s best kept secrets, what a gem! Gorgeous boutique hotel with beautiful touches and outstanding staff. Food is stunning and the friendly relaxed atmosphere is perfect. We stayed for our wedding anniversary and it was such a treat. Cocktails were excellent too.

Choices on the menu for evening meal could have been better, steak and lamb had been removed from last menu and we were a bit disappointed I had the chicken and lentils and it had very little flavour. Had an amazing stay here this weekend. It was the attention to detail for us. The fresh milk for tea and coffee and proper mugs! The fresh cookies, the toiletries! The food in the bistro and those croissants. Staff were amazing also. What a gem of a hotel!
