Lovely owner and welcoming.
A bit run down of the building. Clean laundry bags seen all in front desk.
Easy access to room.
Enter room and hallway of our level room floor not cleaned. Fly screen was broken and not safe for a child.
Bathroom cleaned and enough of what we needed for a night.
A bit disappointed for the amount we paid for.

Overall disappointing. Arrived to a less than clean, very basic room, that was freezing cold, with not even the simple electric wall heater turned on, when atleast the lowest setting, would have made entering the room more appealing from the cool/ cold hallway. No heating in the old basic bathroom. After choosing this accommodation, due to the old art deco style building, rather than an old basic styled similar priced motel room in Beechworth, we would now make the other choice. Hopefully it improves, there’s plenty of room for it. Budget option for some !

We have stayed here before and enjoy “ The Shining” experience walking down the long passage. Everything appears as an Art Deco place. Easy to get around in the area, and a very lovely walk into town for meals. It is quiet and you get woken to the sounds of birds. The conceive is a nice friendly person and helpful. Loved the place and will be back.

We loved the atmosphere of the property. It was so well looked after, clean and athentic. The manager, Dean, was welcoming and couldn't do enough to help us. We will be back again, and looking forward to it.
The building was a stones throw from the asylum for the evening activites which made for a great combo.

Clean and comfortable rooms in an interesting building. The rooms are a bit dated and do need a bit of a refresh but they have everything you need.

The old nursing home is a great example of art deco building and pleased to see that has been repurposed as accommodaiton for travellers. Is basic in what it offers - that said our room was clean, the beds super comfy and it is an convenient walk from town.

The owners are lovely people always willing to help in any way.

Very dated accomodation but clean….not worth the almost $200 to stay here though…probably because accomodation was scarce I suspect! A lot of creaking noises from the floor above made sleeping difficult, especially after the ghost tour at the lunatic asylum!

Was a great stay, close to Beechworth Asylum, great atmosphere

Lovely open grounds surround the old nurses quarters which have a dormitory type accommodation feel.
Plenty of character and history with the building, and the staff also present as interesting characters. 'Deano' was friendly and very accommodating during our overnight stay.
Room was a good size, and had a spacious bathroom with large shower. Some renovations and fresh paint would improve the place, but found it good value at the price.

The history and design were of interest to me

The property needs a bit of TLC, new blinds and new mattresses. I understand its heritage but I feel that the fixtures and furniture weren’t heritage enough and were wrong in the public areas. The service was excellent and we did enjoy our stay.

Amazing customer service from Deano! Not who I’d normally expect on a concierge desk, but wow! He’s got so much personality! He knows his job and does it well. The who venue looks a little haunted which was cool with the ghost tours of the asylum nearby. The place is neat and tidy. Happy to have stayed hear.

Our stay for one night was good. We like buildings with history and a story. This Art Deco building is just that. The rooms & bed are comfortable. Beechworth is a lovely town with plenty of options for coffee and eats.

Great location, great (heritage) building, great rooms. Minor glitches were remedied quickly and cheerfully. However the lack of Wifi in rooms needs attention.

Charming art deco place, spacious room and lovely surrounds. Would definitely stay there again.

Evidently once quite a grand property. However, it now might be reasonably described as a faded gem, well in need of a tart up and some maintenance. The room was well appointed, of a decent size and comfortable, but the curtains were coming off their tracks, there was mildew high up in one of the windows and the whole place felt a bit last its best-by date. Sad, really; it could’ve been so much nicer.

The art deco style of the building was excellent, and the surrounding area was quiet and peaceful.

Rooms are basic , but clean and comfortable .
Bathrooms are great for people with mobility problems .

Beautiful location, easy parking, clean room and excellent bathroom. Probably best suited for quiet adult guests rather than children.

approx' 20 mins to check in
Poor TV reception
No radio
No air-con
No WiFi
Wardrobes stuffed with old bits'pieces,bed-linen,etc
Building obviously in early (very) stage of renovation

Much nicer rooms than expected and at a great price for peak season!

The property on the outside was amazing but to charge the prices we paid it was very much a 2 standard of decor and the presentation was terrible. I found the front desk man wonderful full of character and very welcoming you just need to look at your pricing if you are not going to update the interals

This is a place you stay for the history and the atmosphere. It is located on beautiful heritage gardens and is a quick drive to town

Also a housekeeping lady on level 2 was fantastic. Very slight lady. Loved it.

Lovely hotel with nice Art Deco finishes in a very quiet area of Beechworth. It was very difficult to find in the dark as there are no street lights and lots of one way signs that were confusing. When we did find it with the help of the staff at hotes.com the front door was locked earlier than the stated time. After two phone calls the receptionist ceas found and was very apologetic and helpful. Thankyou to the staff at Hotels.com who stay on the phone with us until it was sorted out.

We had a family/Friends weekend away. We stayed here for the excitement of staying in an old asylum. The room was set out great we love a separate lounge to bedroom. The staff members we saw were friendly. The facilities were basic. The cleanliness of the rooms could’ve been better. But for the amount of time we spent in the rooms it really wasn’t an issue. Beds and pillows were comfortable.
