Very friendly staff, excellent service. Amazing place to stay, would recommend a car since it’s a bit of drive off road.

Castillo Tambor was a shot in the dark for my wife and I. We had never been to Costa Rica before and weren't sure what to expect or not expect.
We arrived late and were graciously welcomed by hotel staff. She was very helpful and welcoming, ensuring that we were happy with our room prior to leaving.
This Hotel is True Castle as the name indicates. Our room was amazing and had an unbeatable view of the ocean. Surrounded by amazing animal and bird noises every morning the tastiest coffee we've had in a long time, equaled a true slice of paradise for us. The friendly staff assisted us with information about the surrounding area and was very informative.
Castle grounds and city felt safe throughout our entire stay. We met with other guests who were from all over the world and made good new friends. The natural landscape of the pristinely-kept grounds were beautiful. Fruit trees, Avacado Trees, and Palms hug this property perfectly. We took hundreds of pictures of the Castle and its ground. Just Stunning. Every morning you'll see staff tending to the grounds. Even the owner of the Hotel was available and very accommodating to our every request or question.
My wife and I will be booking this place again in June with our 3 children. There isn't a thing we needed that wasn't within a 20 minute driving distance. We truly recommend Castillo Tambor for couples or families looking for a relaxing vacation with all the amenities, activities, and beauty you could ask for.

Castillo Tambor is a really nice stay. The pool and main building are great. The rooms are unique and interesting. We stayed in the lower building and our room was fine. Very plain and simple compared to the main building. There is no sound proofing between room 8 and 9. We could hear everything the neighbours said and did and assume they could do the same with us. You need a car to go anywhere. Breakfast was included and was a traditional Tico meal which got us going in the morning. Overall a nice place to stay.

I had an amazing experience at this hotel. Check in was quick and the manager helped us with directions to rent an ATV. The owner of the hotel was so friendly and helpful and he gave us a ride to pick up the ATV!!! We felt very welcomed!!. If you want a place to get away to enjoy peaceful and comfortable stay, this is a good place to be. From this hotel, we could go to Montezuma beach, Tambor beach, Malpais town and Santa Teresa beach. Food was excellent and customer service was great!!!! I can’t wait to come back!

The room was what we expected, not bad for the price. Sonia helped us book a snorkelling tour for a decent price. My only complaint is there was no staff on site overnight and we had an issue with another party also staying there playing loud music until 4 a.m.
The roads are not paved so can be difficult to get to.

Our overall experience was OK. There was no one available to help us check in, the entire staff of 2 was cooking. They had been there since 7am and left at 9:30pm. Our room was the converted garage, nice, but it still looked like a garage. The electric panel was covered by a tropical sarong. The king bed was nice, but no furniture other than a small glass side table. No hooks to hang thing up on either. The 24” mounted TV did not work, and there is NO HOT WATER. The bathroom was was enclosed by 2 walls only, leaving ceiling exposed to the vaulted room. All Bathroom smells and sounds quickly full a room, not good or private. One in the bathroom off to the side, not over the sink makes it hard to shave or manicure. Lastly, one electric plug for the whole room! We had 2 iPads, 2 phones, and 2i watches…the only lamp was plugged into this plug too, lol! The hotel is for sale, and is lovely as a house or a proper b n b with more staff. We felt so bad for the 2 girls we gave them $20 each. One other thing, if you’re are looking for views or ocean close, go somewhere else. The drive to tambor beach is short, but walking is not great, and tambor beach is not great. We spent our days at Montazuma and it was great. Sorry, but I will not be staying here again.

The room was not organized they provided two beds for ( Two adults but not a couple) one bed was a full size the other was very small like a little kid bed) the bed covers were very old and not looks clean. The curtain in the window was narrow to cover the window complete. You can hear all the noises from the next room. Only to plugs in the room not located in the best place. We have to buy an extension to plugged the little lamp and the cell. The bathroom is small and do not offer anything to hanged your clothes or put make up or anything else at lease is on the floor. The principal area where the restaurant is located is nice and clean. But the rooms at lease my do not match with this area at all. You will need a vehicle to go to the ocean nothing exiting to do in this place .

It's a cute but dysfunctional place, which is a pity because it has great potential. But the hotel is up for sale, and it appears that the owners are not willing to make any necessary investments in the meantime. We had to move out of our room on our first day because our shower was leaking into the room below. They first wanted to move us to a cheaper room and only moved us to a similar room after we refused. Nobody helped us move our belongings, and no compensation was offered for this convenience, not even an apology or a free drink. Both rooms were nice-looking but poorly designed. There were no outlets to charge your phone or computer (you had to unplug either the fridge or the lamp) and no screens to keep mosquitos out. The metal doors to the rooms haven't been oiled in a long time and are screeching every time you open or close them, which woke us up when our neighbors returned late one night. The Jacuzzi jets in the pool only worked on our first day. When we asked a staff member on the second day to turn them on, she said the owner had instructed her not to do so. We felt bad for the staff in general: They were very friendly and tried their best, but it appeared that the owners instructed them to run the place on the cheap until it's sold. Sadly, we wouldn't book this place again.

Enjoyed the secluded mess of the location, staff was extra friendly and helpful. Easy planning of excursions. Also good traditional style breakfast.

We arrived early and the staff went out of their way to accommodate an early check in and make us breakfast. Wifi was very poor while we were there and the tv in the room did not work. Best to have a car to explore the area from this lovely space.

I want to thank Sonia for making us feel at home. She was super sweet! We loved chatting with her! She gave us lots of info on places to go visit! Thank you Sonia for being a great host!

Horrible! Do not even think about this place! The shower was totally non-functional-no water at all, the bathroom door had fallen off the hinges, blood stains on the mattresses, small animal feces on the floor in the morning. AC didn’t work, Wi-Fi didn’t work, the location on Google Maps is false. They rented all the other rooms to a wedding party that was partying all night, then the music turned on again at 6:30 am. All hotel employees were gone by 8:00pm. This owner should be ashamed and this place should be shut down!
