Was great!!! Only way to go from now on!

I really loved The Dottie. It offered all the amenities of a top flight chain but was so much more interesting and fun. Art gallery, speakeasy, restaurant, great cafe. Would love to come back in warm weather and enjoy the outdoor space and roof deck too.

We loved Quirk! This is the first time i used online only check in. I prefer having a person help me through check in and check out instead of online. but that's minor. still love this property, rooftop, and all the details

Good location and room was clean but don’t plan on returning. Everything was pretty blah - room, service, gym, food and beverage. When we entered the hotel the person at the reception desk told us to use the app if we needed anything and only contact him as a last resort.

The “virtual” philosophy is not a joke … literally no one works there. So if you have any questions or need anything, you have to text someone who may or may not be real.

Terrible service

Comfy, clean, very helpful staff. Great location with restaurants, bakery, chocolate shops nearby. Easy to get to.

Stayed in the Loft Suite, beautiful room and bath tub. Wish we stayed longer as it was a midway stop for a wedding in North Carolina. Great find and excellent restaurants all around

Super location and fun amenities. Check out the gallery they have as part of the hotel.

I would never ever stay here again. I can’t even count how many little and big things that they did wrong. It’s too much too write. Maybe they will figure themselves out but at least for the next six months I would never stay here ever ever ever.

Coffee maker didn’t work, lamp light bulb out, couch area no lighting and completely dark…impossible to work in the couch area.

The property is unassuming. Its gorgeous inside. Its large and in charge and it has a nice gallery including local art in the basement. I dont think the Doyle alone in this, but I think a lot of service industries could use some Transgender awareness education for welcoming Trans guests. Otherwise, we stayed in a nice suite and it had its own balcony with a great view of the mountains and sunset.

This is a difficult review to write. Seldom have I stayed in a nicer hotel, and I travel for business on other people’s dime all the time. Gorgeous room - very large, high ceiling, gorgeous Scandinavian design, cool art on the walls, incredibly clean, no smoke residue, great bathroom, plush towels, nice restaurant, VERY cool bar with and AMAZING view on the roof, a really sweet and helpful Door Guy/Valet, I could rave on and on. So why not 5 star all the way? Okay - so I admit it - I AM a Boomer - but I do have a Master’s in Telecom Engineering and was CTO of a multi-billion dollar Cellular company, so I think I am at least basically technically savvy. When I showed up at 3 PM in the afternoon there was literally no one at what could be considered a desk - so-called virtually staffing - and lo and behold, despite “checking in” on my computer (m4 Ipad Pro), my Room code would not open the door. After almost an hour we finally tracked down a young lady who I believe was a cleaner, and she was also unable to access the room from my door code, but she was able to use her code to get us in. She promised to find somebody to fix the situation, but in the meantime we were stuck - one of us had to be in the room at all times or we would be locked out - my wife had a drink by herself on the roof - I got some food at the restaurant by myself, etc., etc. No one ever came to fix our issue, so we were semi-trapped in the room all night. Otherwise it was Fabulous!

Visiting our son at UVA and had a great stay at The Doyle. Was able to walk to nearly everywhere we wanted to go in and around the University.

Good location. Easy walk to downtown mall. Easy access to free local shuttle. Great common area/ bar

The best part of the overnight stay was the amazing kindness and hospitality of Joe over at the valet. Helping us unload our toddler and infant and stuff during a torrential down pour! The bed and sleep was amazing also.

Very nice, clean and spacious room. Hotel decor also excellent. Only downside might be that someone not familiar with the online check in may struggle. We had no issues, but there was another guest checking in who was clearly struggling, but he eventually got helped by a friendly staff member.

Being technology impaired, I had a pretty hard time checking in. There was no one at the front desk so everything had to be done with my phone - check in, room assignment and room lock code.
I was able to contact a service desk (by phone) and that was a very positive experience.
There is no on premises parking so it's either self park or valet parking. I opted for the valet parking and that worked out but added some cost.
The room was a very nice suite. Nice bed, nice bathroom with walk in shower. However, again being technology impaired, I could not find any live TV channels. May need some instructions for the TV.
If I visit Charlottesville again I would try to stay here again - now that I know what to expect and what to do.

The reason we rate the staff low is there isn’t much staff period. They need to bring staff back and add back the personal touch that the Quirk used to have.

Rooftop bar was great! Convenient location to downtown. Coffee at the cafe was delicious and staff at the cafe very friendly. No bag drop off at the hotel. No bath soap in shower so used shampoo during the stay.

I did not like it

The room was large and spacious, with a very large patio. Very unique for a hotel... but the patio door would not lock, which was alarming because the room next to us could have accessed that door if they wanted to... also, the carpet and furniture were dirty with red stains on them... but the property was nice and great location.

After reading recent reviews prior to our trip I was a little nervous but pleasantly surprised. We had a great experience! We were granted early check in, room was great and the staff we encountered were very nice and helpful! The check in process was super easy and we encountered no issues others previously mentioned. We opted to self park in lot across the street and felt completely safe in doing so. Quick walk across the street to the hotel. Valet is an option if needed and they use the same self parking lot. We never felt unsafe in the area of the hotel and it has many things right around that are a reasonable walk for just about everyone. I would definitely stay here again!

Online only check in, so definitely do not recommend if you have older guests coming in for a visit. Check out is at 10:30, not at 11 (which is on this site) or 12 which is posted in the rooms. There are people at the front desk but they literally cannot check you in. Also, no luggage storage if going site seeing. I wanted to love this property, but unfortunately it lacks in hospitality.

Solid stay! Enjoyed my time at the Doyle.

The “front desk staff” was neither friendly nor helpful. I raised a concern to one of them that it was unsafe to ask guests to share their room numbers verbally in front of others to check if their room is ready.
My TV was unplugged to the Roku player in my room. I had to call their customer service number and was assured someone would be there in 15-20 mins. Instead, I got a text message asking for pictures of the situation and was told the hotel was busy and they could not tell me when someone could stop by (after 20 text messages). I checked out the following day and no one followed up or fixed the issue. It’s a terribly managed hotel.

This is a nice property but you can tell that the shift in property management is starting to see a decline. Wear and tear was prevalent in my suite. Strange stains on furniture. Food items left in fridge. No lotion in the bathroom. These things make a difference. Check-in was complicated. I never received my digital code via email or app. Front desk was helpful and courteous in resolving the issue but it did take a while to sort out. Valet was spotty. Waited at the kiosk with no one is sight for quite a while one evening. Overall I think the Kimpton is a better option.

The hotel was great-clean, well-appointed, easy to navigate. The valet parking staff were friendly and attentive. My only complaint is that the neighborhood immediately around the hotel made it seem out of place. There really wasn’t anywhere to unload our luggage in front of the hotel.
I would also recommend having different cushions on the balcony furniture or a sign warning that the seats might be wet. I got quite a wet surprise when I sat down!

We enjoyed our stay and will recommend to family and friends

There is zero interaction, the staff that is there is not helpful everything must be done via texting app.
Parking is a dark unlit side street dirt parking lot accross railroad tracks, with no sidewalks if you have luggage or handicapped.
Checkin is a nightmare because it’s done via a texting app, and their app doesn’t always work.
Rooftop is a pretty view but the staff and manager are extremely rude. One night there was a rave, the next night a rap party, so enjoy the guests wandering thru your hotel with no staff or security!!
I will never stay here again!

The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. I understand the efficiencies of having app-based check-in, but the staff was comically inhospitable. Nice, just not warm or welcoming. For example, the parking lot had a QR code that said “pay here or in hotel.” Not knowing whether parking was included, I walked to the hotel, where I was told I couldn’t pay. All the host said was “ I wish the sign didn’t say that.” After dinner, we were hoping to get a drink and dessert at the “speakeasy” where pot de creme was on the menu. After we said we wanted to have a drink and dessert, we tried ordering the pot de creme, only to find out they were sold out of all the desserts. Then we went back to the lobby bar where they were just closing. They would not pour a drink but said we could sit there. Fortunately, my wife and I were still warm and happy after a very hospitable dinner at Mas, which made this stunningly poor service comical rather than frustrating.

Sketchy parking area that was a ridiculous $26 per day. Went to our room and it was occupied. Took them 20 minutes to find a room they could put us in. Asked for a rollaway and it never came. Front desk is not staffed most of time. All online checking in and out. No service experience. Won’t come back.

We really loved our stay here. The only thing we really miss is the front desk staff! There’s no support staff, which just seems very awkward on a day-to-day basis. The meals and bars are fantastic. Please bring back the front desk.

For the price it’s a bit light on what it delivers. There are better places and better deals to be had in C-Ville.

Many guests complained about the lack of customer service and when there was someone present- they were futile.
In our case:
1) no one to watch our bags while we had breakfast after check out
2) asked for late check out and said no... other guests complained of same
3) no one to bring extra towels etc
4) no water in fridge

Pretty good. Nice and clean
