I recently had the opportunity to stay at the Grand Mercure Hotel in Hanoi, and I must say, my experience did not live up to the expectations set by its five-star rating.
While the hotel certainly offers various features and amenities, many of them felt more like gimmicks than genuine enhancements to the stay. For example, the heated toilet seat seemed excessive and unnecessary. It’s a small detail, but it highlights the mismatch between luxury and practicality.
Another frustrating aspect was the automatic bathroom light. If you happen to wake up in the middle of the night and step onto the floor, the light turns on abruptly, waking everyone in the room. This design choice certainly detracted from our comfort. Additionally, the shower water temperature was inconsistent, running cold after just five minutes, which was quite disappointing.
The staff at the hotel did not contribute positively to my experience. They were cold and unwelcoming, which made interactions feel uncomfortable. I encountered significant communication issues when trying to add breakfast to my room. After discussing it with multiple staff members, we finally found someone who understood our request, only to be passed along to someone else who insisted that breakfast was not included. This left us feeling frustrated and ultimately led us to walk away without a resolution.
The location of the hotel is another downside; there isn’t much within walking distance

A great stay!. One of our best city stays. The hotel is beautiful and decor selection is impressive. We stayed in the deluxe room and suite which had executive lounge access which came with loads of perks. Location is also very good and a short drive from old quarter. We also used the spa at the hotel which was great. The staff are very attentive and have a wide selection of treatments available. The rooftop bar has a very impressive view and is a nice way to spend evenings.

Every performances by professional staff were perfect. Great thanks to Gina, Ahn, Liam and other cooperative staff of Grand Mercure Hanoi. My staying there was always like at home with family.

Very new hotel. Stayed at executive floor with executive lounge access. It was excellent service and food. What I like most was when I met Dung the personal trainer at the gym. He gave me a complimentary 20 mins session. He was so patient and informative and made me feel so motivated to want to improve myself after the session. Al of the hotels, I had stayed so far, this is the first time I had a cimplmentart session with a PT in a hotel. I would definitely want to come back here again

I stay at about 75 to 90 hotels a year and this was the nicest place I stayed at this past year. From top to bottom, it was superb and I will be back.

Loved the hotel mostly because we loved Thang and his team in the rooftop bar , so efficient and friendly that we didn’t want to drink anywhere else
Shame about building work next door though was not as noisy as we expected

There is mis advertising from the hotel as well as from the expedia saying they have hot tub but they don't have that actually. Food is average at the restaurant. Overall, not worth it.

I guess they must give EXPEDIA bookers the least desirable rooms....? In my case, even though it was on the 13th floor, my room overlooked a construction site that went all ALL NIGHT! There is no excuse for that, it is a construction site for a new skyscraper that will go on for many months and the noise is constant.
The staff is friendly but who assigns the rooms is NOT !

The bed was amazing, all the facilities were amazing. Hannah the customer manager was extremely helpful and friendly. Outside the premise is another story.

Great hotel, quality room with modern amenities. Location is super closer to the old quarter, minus all the noise and commotion. Service staff including Thang and the others at the front desk were superb. Food and spa services were all top notch. I travel often for business and this was one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at.

We had a wonderful stay at the Grand Mecure Hanoi. The hotel is clean and decorated with charming decor. We enjoyed the breakfast each morning with a wide assortment of breakfast food items including an egg and omelet station. We also ate at the restaurant two times which we enjoyed. The pool area is very relaxing after a busy day out on the town and once the pool top bar is open, this will be a fun spot to chill at the end of the day.
The hotel staff were warm and friendly and very attentive to all of our needs making our stay very memorable.
The hotel is located a little farther away from the major sites and tourist areas but ideal if you are looking for somewhere more quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of the old quarter.
I would recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Hanoi

We had the pleasure of staying at the Grand Mercure hotel. We originally booked another hotel but ended up checking out the next day as it wasn’t as described on the booking site. A little scarred, we booked the Grand Mercure for 3 nights.
I can honestly say that we left SO impressed with the hotels exceptional service and outstanding features. From the moment we walked in, we was greeted by the friendly and attentive front desk staff who made us feel welcomed and valued as guests.
River in concierge team helped us find local restaurants and arranged a day trip to Halong Bay. On the day that we were going to Halong Bay, it was an early 6:30am start and the team kindly volunteered to pack us a breakfast takeaway and coffees for our travels! We had breakfast every morning and one dinner at the hotel restaurant, and the food is delicious.
The hotel itself was impressive. It was newly built and had a modern design. The cleanliness of the property was impeccable, and it was evident that the staff took great care in maintaining this.
The rooms were fab. The 4 poster bed added a touch of elegance and comfort to my stay, and the smart lighting system is something I’d never experienced before. The Japanese toilet technology was a unique feature that added a luxurious touch to the bathroom experience.
Overall, the hotel's nice and new ambiance, cleanliness, good location, and impressive room features made my stay truly memorable. I am already looking forward to next time!

The Grand Mercure is new hotel with clean and modern furnishings. It was a great choice of hotel close but far enough away from the old town to ensure a quiet surrounding area. Staff were helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was wide ranging and very good. A very comfortable and pleasing choice of accommodation for an active visit to Hanoi.
