The lake front chalet was AMAZING in every way! The new dock was our "home" throughout our stay. The dock was spacious and provided a great view of the lake.
The hosts were absolutely incredible. They were responsive and great with their communication.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Chalet! It fit the needs of our extended family vacation & had extra amenities that made it a lovely stay!
If we have any comments it would be that the drive is VERY steep & while Gerald did AMAZING accommodating our extra vehicles it proved to be a challenge - also there are quite a few stairs everywhere that could be difficult for anyone older or who has mobility issues.
They went the extra mile being available for questions & although the dock had issues we understood it was out of their control. As was the issue with the spider webs - we were aware being in the middle of nature that bugs are an issue but bless their hearts the spiders were relentless, they would clean & the next morning webs everywhere - but again Gerald was a dear about trying to fix those things!
We all enjoyed our time there!

Our group of 8 women wanted to get away to chillax. That’s all we did. Plenty of room. Enjoyed the fire pit & dock. Gerald was accessible if needed. Thank you.

The other reviewers have nailed it -- this was simply a fantastic VRBO rental experience, from beginning to end!!
Wonderful, spotlessly clean house; fantastic location on a lake, and we made good use of the kayaks, the paddleboard, the lily pad float; great location in terms of access to area sites and attractions...
and Gerald and Cindy were simply WONDERFUL hosts/owners!! We were fortunate enough to run into them as we were moving our things in to the house, and we stood in the driveway and chatted for half an hour.
Delightful, delightful, and thoughtful people. Later in our stay, they dropped off an unexpected and thoughtful surprise that showed that they had been listening throughout our conversation a few nights earlier -- the kind of added little touch that makes you feel extra-well-cared for.
Fantastic experience -- would absolutely stay here again!!!

Property was spotless with many amenities. Great Lake house and owner was very accommodating. Renters should be aware that there are many stairs. That was the only downside, otherwise perfect

Our group had 9 people- one teen and the rest adults. We all had the best time. If you are on the fence about booking, just do it. You will be so happy you did. Gerald was a absolute top notch host. Excellent communication! We got stuck on the lake in our pontoon boat (human error) and Gerald and Cindy came to our rescue:) We rented our boat from Big Worm. Big Worm delivered the boat to our dock. The lake house has everything you will need to make your stay wonderful. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked. There are numerous kayaks and a paddle board. Our entire group of 9 were on the lake either in a kayak, on a paddle board or on a paddle boat. There is something for everyone. You will love coffee in the morning on the deck or grab a chair and sit on the dock. So peaceful. Listen to the birds and enjoy some tranquility. You must drive an hour to Garden of the Gods. You will feel like you are in Utah or Colorado. Amazing. We are already planning for next year.

Communication with host was great. Always check to see if need anything. If you have mobility issues beware there are a lot of stairs fortunately we didn't have any issues. Having a dock to bring our pontoon to was a bonus.
House was very clean and stocked with k-cups little boxes of cearel and orher treats. We were there when Gorville was having some hot temperatures just to let know the AC works great. Thanks for great stay made lots of memories. 😊

This beautiful chalet located in a quiet cove on the lake was a perfect place for our annual sister trip. This place is beautifully decorated with many great amenities. The owner added some personal touches which made us feel right at home. There were so many activities such as hiking, wineries, kayaking, swimming and fishing to keep us busy during our stay. Gerald was a wonderful host and made sure we were enjoying ourselves so we will definitely stay again.

An absolute gem for staying in the Shawnee National Forest. The owner has the property and inclusions set up for you to not feel like you are staying at a rental, but instead just relaxing at a lake house with the most incredible views for your time there. You are perfectly located to access most of the hiking trails and fun adventures in the Shawnee (ziplining is also a must!). Trails like Garden of the Gods or Inspiration Point are only an hour away either direction from the rental! And the local Fern Clyffe trails are also worth the adventure. Lake and dock access, along with the water amenities are incredible for traveling with your family to balance being outdoor and relaxing on the lake in the cove area as well. If you are looking for a rental on the lake in this area this a definite must.

Gerald was top notch!! He went above and beyond! Everything was as listed. We all had a lot of fun in the sun! Mother Nature decided to knock out the power our last night there and Gerald did everything he could to make us comfortable. He brought us a generator, flashlights, batteries, fans!! We would definitely stay there again!! Thank you for your hospitality!

We had no idea where Goreville, IL was when we started looking for a location for our family to get together. We wanted somewhere close for our daughters and their families and this was a 2.5 hour trip for one and a 3 hour trip for the other. (My husband and I are about 9 hours away.) This was absolutely PERFECT for our bunch! The chalet was super clean, spacious, big kitchen, 2 living areas (which was perfect since the 2-yr old went to bed way before the rest of us), a beautiful view, plenty of kayaks, and even the lily pad for the kiddos. The host was unbelievably considerate and had more than we could have ever expected—including snacks, coffee, ice, popsicles for the kids and even brought over an ice cream maker! The spot on the lake was wonderful—quiet with an inlet to explore with the kids in the kayaks.
I just cannot imagine a better place we could have stayed at for our first annual family vacation. AND this is the place we will call “home” for the rest of our annual vacations. Absolutely perfect.

We were visiting the area with family for a graduation from SIU. The house worked out even better than we expected. The comfortable house, the location on the lake, and the kayaks and canoe all helped to make it a fun, memorable trip. The owners were great. Highly recommended.

Wonderful property! Don't hesitate to book! No detail is left unnoticed and there are lots of inside & outside spaces for everyone. The hosts are available if you need anything but do not interfere. One review mentioned that the house wasn't secluded enough so I'd like to note-there are neighbors but the houses are all offset to allow for privacy (plus tons of trees!). There is a great bar/restaurant a few minutes away that has Awesome food (The Cross-Eyed Bear)! We did not utilize the lake activities as the water was still chilly and our primary activity was hiking. House is conveniently located between the various hiking spots including Ferne Clyffe State Park, Giant City, Garden of the Gods, and Shawnee National Forest. Gorgeous area. Such an awesome getaway!

The four of us came for the eclipse and spent four days at the property enjoying all the hiking Southern Illinois has to offer. It was the perfect location for our adventure! The view of the lake from the porches and the expanse of the property down by the water was a great feature. The kitchen was easy to maneuver, and the shower water pressure was amazing! One of the best VRBOs we have ever stayed at, and that is saying alot.

My family and I had the best time at Gerald’s Chalet on Easter weekend! We made memories that will last a lifetime. Gerald’s place on Lake Egypt is magnificent. I highly recommend staying here. Gerald was an excellent host and he even provides a lot of snacks upon arrival. My family and I had the best time Kayaking, and hanging out on the dock. I will definitely stay here again!

We really enjoyed our time at the chalet. Hosts were kind and wonderful. There were many extra special touches they did, and you could tell they took pride in making our stay all that it could be. We enjoyed the kayaks, nearby hiking, campfires, grilling and games available. It wasn't as secluded or woodsy as we had hoped or that I imagined from the photos in the listing, but the many houses around us were mostly vacant anyway. We had a great time at this place.

We went for thanksgiving and it was amazing! Wish we had went in the summer. Swimming would have been great. We had 10 people in our party and the house accommodated us well. Garden of the gods was an hour drive from there and we visited twice. It was beautiful waking up and drinking coffee with the wonderful view of lake Egypt. The beds ranged in firmness so there was something for everyone. Host was very nice and house was stocked and clean. Dollar store was within 15 minutes and there was an ice cream and souvenir shop close that we also visited. Great stay over all and host informed us there were upgrades coming soon.

This property was so wonderful! My sister, friend and I will be back next year! It was so cozy, clean, and relaxing. We made new memories there and decided it was such a great time that we would be back so that we can visit more locations around the area. We sat by the firepit in the evening, we did not get a chance to go Kayaking but hopefully next time we will! Gerald was such a wonderful host, very friendly and knowledgeable! I recommend this property to everyone!

Let me start by saying that this home is beautiful. It is very well decorated, has all the nicest ammenities, (beds, coffee pot, chairs, outdoor seating, stove, fridge, etc.) and we felt at home. There were special things we did not expect like snacks, coffee, and popsicles. There was a launch for kayaks if you want. I spent all day Saturday cooking on the pit. The gazebo is amazing. The owners wanted nothing more than to make sure we were happy. And it showed. Both in communication and in the small subtleties in and around the house. I could go on and on, bit I won't. Bring your family, bring a couple of friends (like I did), but stay here. Did I mention we cooked breakfast on a Blackstone, on a coverd patio, while we over looked the lake.
I would like to take a moment and personally say thank you to the owners. You were great and we felt like family in your home. Thank you

Gerald was a great host who demonstrated exceptional care in preparing to ensure that guests have a quality experience. The towel warmers, available snacks, and overall attention to detail serve as evidence of his hosting excellence. The property is well maintained and in a beautiful location. Having a washer/dryer with all supplies provided was a plus as well. Gerald was very helpful and professional in our interactions. It is no surprise that he is a “Superhost.” Thank you Gerald.

Had a wonderful time! Plenty of room and you took care of every comfort and amenity item that we could possibly need during our stay. Gave us lots of info up front and tips on local boat rental, which we did rent a pontoon and had a wonderful day out on Lake of Egypt! I will give the location, property, and host 5-star ratings and we will definitely save this in our trips folder for the future.

We had an exceptional stay and only wished we could have stayed longer. It was apparent that the host truly values providing an excellent experience and to that end has provided everything needed for a fun and comfortable stay. Everything was pristine as if new. We appreciated great and prompt communication from the host who made himself available but was never intrusive. We hope to return soon!

My family and I stayed at the Eagle’s Nest Chalet over Labor Day weekend as a last hurrah for the summer and had a wonderful time. Gerald is an excellent host, thoroughly communicating everything we needed to know to make for a perfect weekend. The property itself is beautiful and exceeded all of our expectations. Plenty of room for the eleven of us and tons of privacy from the neighboring properties. You’re peacefully surrounded by trees, with only a view of the lake. The amenities were a huge plus too. We had a great time kayaking, canoeing, and swimming off the dock. We could not have asked for a better setting to close out the summer with family. Thanks Gerald!

This was our 2nd visit here, since the 1st was so perfect and we loved the house and space so much.
Gerald is the perfect host, great communication and quick response time when we had questions. His eye for details, comfort and the extras provided made us feel spoiled and appreciated.
We loved all the usable outdoor spaces and water toys that were there for our enjoyment.
Next visit will hopefully be in cooler weather, so we can enjoy the fire pit.
