The guest relations team were utterly fabulous. We had some specific needs to contend with and the staff could not have been more helpful.

Stunning building with amazing facilities. Service is exceptional with friendly and professional staff. Superb spa and excellent choice of bars and restaurants.
Room was very noisy at night with generator or machinery nearby making noise all night. Got very poor sleep. Surprising given everything else 5 star and exquisite.

Fabulous breakfast and dinner in the Strathearn.
Fantastic staff and service.
Communication between reception/Strathearn and me was poor.
Dormy meal was below average.

Superb quality and choice. Service was first class.
Missing Birthday Cake Issue resolved by Managers and was dealt with in a friendly and professional manner when I raised concerns.

Facilities! The grounds are spectacular.
Tiny little things given cost of room. £650 for the cheapest room. Water in plastic bottles. No food & beverage options in fridge.

As always the fabulous breakfast. Lovely afternoon tea, tennis and dinner.
The new service charge. Which is discretionary and can be deducted. Tip at meals, drinks and the prices reflect the hotel. Although a step too far with now adding service charge to the room rate.

Attention to detail. Nothing too much bother . Staff attentive and friendly.

nothing apart from not being able to stay longer

An all round excellent experience and stay. Staff superb.
Our room had a window that was frosted over so we couldn't see out. We felt for what we paid, a room with a window which you could actually look out from would be expected.

the staff were exceptional, cant do enough for you and are so great with children.
hot tap for our bath ran extremely slow which meant it took about 30 minutes to run a bath.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful and all the staff members were very pleasant. The spa is lovely.
Unfortunately there were several hiccups and issues that I wouldn't expect from a 5 star hotel, or any hotel for that matter.
- I received a voicemail at 5pm the night before my arrival to advise my spa treatment was rescheduled 4 hours later. This wasn't suitable and I spent the next two hours being passed pillar to post or waiting for a callback to discuss. Eventually I had to change my plans and move my treatment to the following day. No mention of this when I checked in and no offer of redress which I found unacceptable.
- Very poor labelling at buffet breakfast to the point I became sick of asking various staff members "Is this vegan?", "Can you show me what's vegan?". No non-dairy milk with cereals, that had to be ordered at the table which took an age to arrive. Just a complete palaver which could be resolved by specifically labelling items which are vegan and vegetarian.
- When booking dinner reservations, I asked which restaurant best catered to a vegan diet and was told The Dormy. At no point was it mentioned that The Dormy, and indeed the Auchterader bar are located a decent walk away, especially if you're in heels. The fact there is an estate driver willing to lift and lay you is irrelevant. The bar and restaurant are not in the hotel and that should be made clear.
- Barely slept because it sounded like the bedroom was located in an engine room. The noise was unbelievable.
- Our room had significant water stains on the ceiling and we noticed several unfinished odd jobs around the hotel like loose wiring, bits of wall crumbling away etc. This didn't bother me personally but I found it surprising to see.
There is no denying the beauty of this hotel and the staff are just lovely, however, that alone does not make a 5 star hotel. I'll definitely be back, purely because it's difficult to find a hotel of this beauty, but my expectations are significantly lowered.

Extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful staff
Excellent breakfast in Strathearn and meals in the Dormy and the Birnam.
The hotel was very busy, a little too busy for our liking. Was quite surprised as normally we find hotels to be pretty quiet in the first week in new year.
We had to wait 30 minutes to get into the swimming pool so decided to return in the evening when it was quieter.

Staff were very friendly and helpful as you would expect in an hotel of this standard. The buffet breakfast was fantastic with great choice
Surprised there wasn't a guest's lounge where one could just sit and enjoy the views and read a newspaper
The chef in one of the restaurants didn't seem to know the difference between linguine and spagetti - they are two different pastas
