Excellent hotel for our needs. Best view and easy access to Coconut Island for a swim. Super comfy beds, spacious room. Continental breakfast was a little disappointing but everything else was awesome!

Hotel was dated but we found it to be comfortable for our needs. The view was awesome to wake up too or have an evening cocktail. Will stay again.

The hotel was nice - room was spacious and comfortable. The continental breakfast however was very poor.

Big rooms and bathroom. Love the bed and linens, allow me to sleep well during our one night stay prior to a morning flight. The free breakfast included has no protein. Just coffee, juice and small pieces of bread.

This Hotel is quite old, it needs an update. The rooms were huge, but had very little furniture so it was mostly empty. It had some really old wallpaper from the 90s or older and it was starting to peel in most corners. It looked and felt old. On the other side, it was clean, I wiped my finger on the furniture and there was little to no dust on either the desk or the bed frame. The bed was comfy enough, I've slept on worse. The shower had good pressure and the towels were pretty soft and clean. We had a great view of coconut island, which was fun to wake up and see every morning. The breakfast was a joke, it was a pot of oatmeal and bread. We got it for free with our room, but there was a fee if you did want it. We ate it the first day then skipped it the rest. Food was centered around the expensive steak house that was inside the hotel, so if you wanted a breakfast buffet, it would set you back even more. The location was great, 10 minutes from the Airport & Seaport; about 5 minutes away from downtown Hilo. Parking was free and pretty full on the weekend, but had plenty of parking during the week in their garage. I think if they invested in some new furniture and paint, this place would truly earn it's title of best place in Hilo, that they've won for like the last 5 years. Compared to other hotels in the area, I have no idea, so the others could be a lot worse.

Older property that could use some updating. Property next door is closed and in bad shape.
Room was fine, but again, needs some updating, but it was fine for one night.
Staff was friendly.

The hotel was clean and the people friendly. The continental breakfast offered for two staying in one room was awful. The had mini crossants and doughnut hole or a nut bread that was cut very small with little flavor and an orange or apple. They also had a very gummy oatmeal. I was not impressed. We were given 1 container to share for our food which seemed very odd. The coffee was good.

Got there early and they let me check in early that was an added perk. Other hotels want to charge for the early check in. Next time will spend more for an ocean view but the banyon view was nice. The only complaint would be the free breakfast was spare with just coffee/juice and a few muffins.

Had a nice 2 nights here in Hilo. A little bit of road noise from cars etc but that is my only complaint. I will definitely come back here again on my next Hilo trip. But will spring for the ocean side of the hotel. The views of Hilo bay are outstanding. And there is a nice walking path along the bay and out to the little island park adjacent to Hilo hotel. Wonderful staff here show lots of aloha!

The cleanliness wasn’t there, a lot of hair within the bedding.
The fridge wasn’t getting cold and then we got locked out of our bathroom, not sure how that happened.
The staff are amazing!!

Room smelled like urine. Pool was bombarded with locals who weren't hotel guests.

Our overall experience was wonderful, in the first place I would like to mention the very friendly lady at the front desk who greeted us. Our room was unexpectedly spacious with two queen beds with partial ocean view. Have to admit that the hotel in general a bit of outdated but clean and charming and absolutely worth its price.

Seen Better days. Some wallpaper tears, cracked bathroom sink. Unidentified sounds in ceiling, perhaps a water pump. Beware the speed bumps in lower garage

A nice place along Banyan Drive, right next to Liliokulani Park and Coconut Island. Nice place to stroll at sunrise or sunset. Also across the street from the golf course.
I didn't go to the restaurant or pool, but did go to the bar to have drinks. They had nice live entertainment.
Front desk workers were polite snd helpful! Room was clean and was as expected.
I would stay again when visiting Hilo!

Great hotel in a rather secluded part of Hilo Bay. Great ocean views. Nice bar and restaurant. The location of the outdoor pool is nice. Plenty of parking.

The staff is very accommodating. The rooms are adequately large and the overall environment is quiet. Bathroom plumbing needs to be upgraded.

I recently stayed at the Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel and had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the hotel is in a fantastic location with beautiful surroundings, and the cleanliness of the rooms was impressive. However, my stay was marred by significant noise from nearby construction works, which made it difficult to relax. Additionally, the free breakfast was a big disappointment, consisting of just cake and coffee, which fell far short of my expectations.
Overall, while the hotel has its merits, the noise and breakfast issues need to be addressed to improve the guest experience.

You have to stay in a room with a ocean view. The room I stayed had a beautiful view and a short walking distance to the beach. However, their breakfast was very stingy. One small container per room, not per a person.

The room smelled like mold hand had mold behind the curling wallpaper all up the corner by one of the beds.
The view was fantastic and so after much debating, we decided not to complain or change rooms. This should not possibly be something that the hotel is not already aware of. Not sure what they are planning to do about it, if anything. It does not look recent.
The staff was great. The hotel location is beautiful. The room was spacious. If not for the mold, this would have been an amazing stay.

1). Even though we stayed one night, the room we had was noisy. We were in #725 and heard banging sounds from the elevator. The cable/pulley noise above our room sounded like someone was hammering the floors and it continued until 2a.m.
2). The remote control for the television was not cooperating. We couldn’t get the remote to respond. It was very hard trying to find something to watch.
3). One of the amenities offered is complimentary coffee served in the room. I had the supplies to-make myself a cup of coffee but I couldn’t find a coffee pot to make the coffee in.
4). We had a handicapped room but it was not to the expectations that was needed for a handicapped person. In the bedroom section the bed could have used a bed rail to help the handicapped person get in & out of bed without struggling. The bathroom needed more hand rails. It was hard to stand and balance especially when you need to brush teeth. Handrails are best especially for those who need to use them when to stabilize youself so that you don’t fall.
Finally number
5). I was told that 3 p.m. was check in. We were told that they were busy today
and our room #725 was not ready and when ready they would call and inform us about it. Here we are waiting in he lobby for an hour and a half and no word. After about a half hour longer we got the call, our room was finally ready.
Hope the upper management will address these concerns as other hotel guests may be experiencing these same situations.

My wife and I stayed at the Castle Hilo for 2 nights in a room facing Coconut Island and Hilo Bay. Our room wasn't ready at check-in time, so we went to their bar for about a half hour until it was ready. The room and view were amazing. We spent time time at the restaurant and bar, both were great with really good food and drink, and excellent service. Their continental breakfast was more than enough food and we got to take it up to our room and sit on the balcony. Parking is free, which is hard to come by at most hotels in Hawai'i. Overall a great experience and I would highly recommend it.

Good base for day trips. The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is getting old, carpet, light fixtures, air-conditioning have seen better days. Air-conditioning in room only just works to bring temp down a few degrees from outside temperature. Pillows needed replacing 2 years ago. Do not however eat in the restaurant. Had dinner there on two occasions and it was not great. Fries cold, chicken precooked and dry. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but it is a 2.5 maybe 3 star accommodation.

Didn’t have rooms at check in time and made us wait til 4pm to get a room, paid for a king and got stuck with 2 queen. Fights and homeless around property. Bugs and mosquitoes in the room. Low water pressure, and stink hallways.
8.0 / 10.0
Loved the view of Hilo Harbor snd Coconut Island. We did not have Bay view rooms, but still enjoyed sitting on our balcony and looking at the banyan trees. The rooms are well soundproofed so you could sleep without hearing the coqui frogs.
5.0 / 10.0
Very accommodating staff! The property is a little "old" - but they make up for that in attitude and service at the front desk.
The "breakfast" is just plain silly - fruit, coffee and croissants. They monitor how much food your room takes and charges TEN DOLLARS if they think you took too much. Just offer coffee and let people get breakfast elsewhere - it was a really weird set up.

Perfect environment

I booked an ocean view room, which looked straight out to Hilo Bay.
The bathroom was a bit outdated. Free continental breakfast was limited, just croissant, oatmeal, melon/orange and coffee/juice. No egg, ham, or any kind of meat.
Parking was easy and free. Hotel location is great. Less than 10mins from airport, downtown, Hilo Farmers market which sells all kinds of tropical fruits and the main reason I came to Hilo for.
Despite the disappointed free breakfast, the fantastic ocean view, the big room, and location of hotel closed to everything more than made up for it.
4.0 / 10.0
1. I got charged $172 for parking, gym, pool, and wifi. I didn’t use the gym or the pool. WiFi was very slow (under 2 Mbps upload speed).
2. Hair on the sink and bathroom floors when we first arrived. Gross.
3. Maid service was provided the night before we departed.
4. Terrible continental breakfast: stale banana bread (or whatever it was), donut holes, limited fruit (orange slices and pineapple), and the remaining offering was oatmeal. Absolutely no eggs, sausage, or bacon. I had better breakfast selections at a Holiday Inn Express.
This place was chintsy. I feel bad for anyone who wasn’t a guest of the hotel who had to pay $10 for this boot camp breakfast.
5. The adjacent properties wer dilapidated hotel buildings that were abandoned. Homeless people and tons of cats lived there. I was scared for anyone passing these properties.
6. The sliding door leading to the balcony was so old I could barely open it.
Summary: I will never go back to the Castle Hilo Hotel. And I suggest to the reader not to go there.
