I've stayed here twice now and while it's old school decor isn't really to my taste, and it could do with a refresh, it's actually a really nice hotel that is comfortable. The location is also fantastic. You're unlikely to get many better settings for either you evening drink/meal or breakfast. Breakfast is also really good for a smallish hotel.

Service poor, no answer from room service or reception.
Bathroom very basic and tired.
Concierge guy was excellent though.
Clearly Macdonald not investing in what was once a lovely hotel

Everything looks good.

Room was cold and so was the breakfast

iThe room was great. The restaurant had very good service and the location is picture perfect. Marlowe is a great town with lots of options for any itinerary.

Just amazing hotel can’t express how good this place is and so beautiful location

Amazing calm and relaxing room. All the extra touches with friendly staff.

Location was good, everything else was average at best and below-par in terms of cleanliness. Hotel is tired and dated and being asked to pay extra at breakfast if you want something different like avocado, eggs benedict or even a different coffee is just strange. Drinks are very expensive as well - £16 for a glass of wine with a 12.5% service charge on top is excessive.

Not the cheapest place in town but probably the best

Nice hotel in lovely location on the river which is why it is quite expensive with free car parking. The hotel is cashless but the WiFi is not good enough to cope with credit card transactions at times. We attempted to pay for drinks in the bar, three times before it finally worked causing customer frustration and queues at the bar. We didn’t have a evening meal in the hotel as we went to a local Vietnamese restaurant and had a lovely meal, plenty of choice of different cuisines in Marlow. Breakfast in hotel plenty choice but sausages and black pudding (soggy mess) could have been cooked a bit more.
overall a nice stay and we would stay again in the future.

Very welcoming. Stayed for a family wedding. Lovely room, overlooked car park. Good size balcony. Very clean. Room comfortable but too warm.
Very attentive staff.
Fantastic location, short walk into town. Lovely riverside location.
Large car park.
3-4 minutes walk across causeway to church for the wedding.
Lovely garden area with plenty of seating.
Only down side was price of drinks
If you want to get a taxi to windsor then advise Uber as half price compared to the one hotel booked us. Can get a train but its 2 changes so can take up to 2 hours.

What a beautiful hotel, right on the river Thames. The staff are so kind and friendly, and really make you feel special.
The rooms are very nice with a very comfortable bed and fluffy dressing gowns and slippers.
Breakfast has a great selection for everyone. The poached eggs were perfectly cooked and the sausages were really tasty. All in all we would stay here again as a treat, and would highly recommend this hotel a must visit if you are looking for somewhere to stay.

We were there for a wedding which was absolutely lovely but the drinks prices were extortionate and there was a charge for literally everything. It was £15 for a glass of sangria. WTH??? Shocking. The room was small for the price as well. Lovely location and they ran the event well but wow, the prices were just unreal. Never again unless we have to.

Terrible state of cleanliness in shared areas like restaurant. Spiders all over restaurant walls
No clearing away of used plates etc for many hours
Overall very run down now. Used to be a great hotel

Hotel is located right on the river and we had a fantastic view of the river and church.
Wonderful waking up to church bells ringing.
Had a drink out on the riverside lawn so views are fabulous.
The breakfast service we expereinced was fine.
Indian owned so gave us naan bread, weird.
But others were furious with time it took for breakfast to arrive two/three families waited over an hour for theirs to arrive.
Luckily we didn't but listening to the others shout at staff wasn't great so please look at this. Indian owned part of the hotel so communication was not great, foreign workers couldn't speak English so this could really damage the hotels reputation!!!

The room had a fab view but was tired ! It seemed like a very quick turnaround with dirty pants left in a draw. The hotel is a great location. There was a wedding ceremony on the day . I asked for a glass of champagne they said they didn’t have any glasses to serve me one !!!!!

Air con in the room should be more effective.
Bit of a cheek to pay extra for various breakfast items. And to only get half a sandwich for £10!!

The overall staff are not qualified to handle guests relations, most of guests are complaining the slow customer support and a lot of basics are not available in the hotel such as hot water for showering and one single receptionist is dealing with all check in and check out which delayed our check in for about 3 hours.

David the concierge is top notch! So friendly and helpful, and the property is just gorgeous! Will definitely visit again.

Couldn’t fault anything. Our 3rd visit, and intend to return.

The location of this hotel is stunning. We were lucky with the weather and couldn’t have wished for a nicer pub garden for a drink overlooking the river.
Inside the room was a little dated but comfortable and clean. Disappointingly there was no hot water for the morning shower. And the breakfast was only ok. I don’t understand why poached eggs and avo has an additional £6 charge compared to the full English breakfast - and the toast was burnt.

We stayed for one night with friends. We were able to leave the car and walk into Marlow for lunch. As the weather was beautiful we spent the rest of the afternoon sitting on the grass by the water watching the world go by. It was really relaxing. Dinner in the riverside restaurant was fabulous. Next time we want to try Sindhu.

Lovely stay in riverside hotel with excellent views

Nice hotel in a great location, but definitely in need of some updating and money spent on it

This is the best hotel in Marlow and is in a brilliant position for easy access to everything in Marlow. The staff are great and polite and professional. However, the rooms are dated and tired (really old TV, old fashioned bathroom with leaky taps, mouldy sealant behind the taps and generally a bit dull overall).
Breakfast is expensive but has a complicated supplement system for some dishes which quite frankly ridiculous for such an expensive hotel and expensive breakfast - if we stay again we would skip breakfast and get something nicer in town for half the price (the serving staff were lovely though). Finally, we stayed on a busy night, queued for ages at the bar for a 'night cap' drink, carried the drinks back to our table ourselves and were still charged a 'service charge' on top of the relatively high prices anyway

The hotel is in a great location. Definitely an upmarket feel, lovely views over the river and the bridge and church.
Service was excellent by everyone we encountered.
The bar and restaurant areas are really nice and comfortable, food and drink was great.
Easy parking, plenty of it.
We had a four poster delux room with river view. These look over the weir, which is lovely but is very loud. The rooms have very old windows that don’t shut properly. We didn’t mind the white noise so much but one to bear in mind.
Air con didn’t work or wasn’t switched on.
Room in general was nice but dated, needs an upgrade.
Mugs we used weren’t changed for clean new ones on second day.
Overall great, it some little things that could have been much better for the money, it’s a very expensive hotel

Our check in and out excellent - lovely staff. Room quite large. Wardrobe but no drawers to put clothes so had to stay in suitcase. Room clean but a bit tired. Had balcony which had good view of river, but it was rather shabby. We did enjoy our stay and glad we did stay there.

I am so disappointed with the poor overpriced accommodation on offer at this hotel. We paid £270 (the most I have ever paid for overnight accommodation with no breakfast) for a standard room at the Compleat Angler to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary. I was expecting a room with a view and at least a hint of luxury. What we received was a room overlooking the car park, with a damaged light fitting and mini safe in need of maintenance (no battery cover).
We should have complained immediately but didn't want to spoil our long-awaited night away.
To add insult to injury there was a whirring noise all night from the kitchen coolers outside our window. This was not what we had expected for a night costing £270 so I complained to reception on check out and was told the manager would call... I'm still waiting two days later.
The staff are pleasant enough the facilities are a little tired and in need of renovation. The Compleat Angler is relying on it's past reputation and sadly current guests will just be very disappointed. We will not be going back.

Although the bedroom was clean it was in need of refurbishment as it looked worn and dated.

Excellent service and very comfortable
Great location for the town

Starting on a positive, the staff we met were lovely. To be fair we didn’t pay for a river room but were disappointed by the location of our room which was in an annex that was accessed from and looked over the car park so we didn’t feel like we were part of the main hotel despite the expensive cost of the room.
It was the breakfast though that was really disappointing. At such an high additional cost we expected a real treat. However the continental side was disappointing. The cooked breakfast was ordered from a menu however there was a £6 additional supplement to be paid for half of the options and a £4 supplement if you wanted a coffee like a latte rather than just a filter which I have to admit was annoying. We wouldn’t have booked the breakfast if we would have known that.
Unfortunately we wouldn’t stay again as it was over priced for what we received.

A great location for a few days break. Staff were great and location was fantastic handy to go into Marlow which is a great town as well as walking distance to the station where we got a train onto Paddington.

A lovely stay with my husband and 4 month old. All staff we encountered were lovely and helpful, and breakfast in the room was great though arrived a little early. Just a couple of negatives, although there was a baby on the booking we were given a room upstairs with no lift so we were unable to take the pram, however we did not ask to change rooms as we were only there for one night so I am not sure if this could have been resolved. Another negative was that we had a whirlpool bath in the bathroom which didn’t work, again as we were only there for one night and it was late when we discovered this we did not bring it to anyone’s attention so did not give the hotel the opportunity to resolve this. Overall a lovely stay.

The hotel is in a great location with very friendly staff. Our bathroom needs a complete overhaul, very dated.
