Lovely hotel, room was clean, staff were friendly and helpful

Lovely hotel. Great welcome. Fantastic location.

Very good value for its central location, characterful building with a very pleasant garden. Breakfast m, at around £3.50 per head, was exceptional value. Downsides were that the towel-rail was on high heat with no means of controlling it, which meant that the bedroom was extremely warm and the bathroom like an oven! The heating seemed to affect the water as by morning the cold tap was dispensing piping hot water! We’d stay again, but would ask for extra bottles of water and hope that the heating situation was not as pronounced.

Had to change my room as it hadn’t been cleaned properly

The hotel which was historical was very clean and the staff worked hard to get the rooms ready for check in with limited staff; because the floods had made it difficult. Some of the decor needs updating but if its a listed building they may have restrictions. The bar area was beautiful the decor was lovely and looked as though it was one of the first things to have been refurbished. Location was great, we didnt eat in the restaurant other than breakfast which was a buffet style so you could have what you wanted. Car parking was good as the hotel stated; go through the arch to the back of the hotel and its free, at the front you will be charged with wardens patrolling.

I understand with the recent rain some of the cleaning staff couldn’t get to work. We did have to wait for our room, but didn’t mind as the reception staff let us put our bags upstairs. Overall pretty clean as the poor staff had to work extra hard. It was appreciated.

Nice well appointed room, only criticism with bathroom was wash basin took a long time to empty.
Nice friendly staff.
Convenient location.

We had a lovely stay in Banbury and the hotel being right in the town centre was perfect with free parking being a big plus.
There were only a few minor points that stopped it being excellent e.g. intermittent tv remote, beside lamp not working and a luke- warm shower. They certainly didn't spoil our trip but, for me, prevent an excellent rating.
I'd definitely stay here again though.

It was a surprise , bed was ok , room was warm . Bins had not been emptied, no handwash, no shower gel , all the containers were empty; good thing we had our own toiletries. The room was booked for 2 people but towels in the bathroom was for only 1 guests.
Toilet roll was half used. No attention was taken to prepare the room.
Arrived late so did not have the energy to say anything.
Receptionist was welcoming and friendly, apart from that I would not rate the hotel, it definitely needs an update.

Comfortable and clean hotel. Pleasant staff who were very helpful. Nice restaurant and bar. Hotel is in a good area close to restaurants and bars within walking distance. The hotel is a little tired but this doesn’t take anything away from it it is just an observation and I would stay there again.

We chose this venue as it was an affordable option for a quick stop - we were so impressed! The rooms were spacious and quiet and beautifully appointed, there was a lovely woman on reception who suggested a great restaurant for dinner across the road, and the breakfast the next morning was delicious. All in all a great stay

Great hotel, friendly staff, recommend full English breakfast!

Beautiful building with a lovely reception and dining room. Great staff but the room was in alright condition with the light falling out the ceiling and wallpaper peeling off. Bed was very comfy and the bathroom was very clean. Overall, the staff and cleanliness make this an average stay.

Hotel very run down, stair carpets patched with gaffer tape!
Shower poor

Unfortunately the hotel had no lifts which when staying on the 3rd floor is an issue (I should have checked),No light bulb in my bedside light. The bar said it closed at 11pm but we arrived at 10.40pm and it was already closed due to an older couple being drunk and falling over, the said older couple went outside for a cigarette. We were sitting in the foyer and a waitress opened the door to talk to the drunk couple letting in the cold and cigarette smoke, when we mentioned this we were rudely told that "we are bringing them back in" which did not happen for another 5 minutes or so. The breakfast was farcical following a smoke alarm which went off at 7.30am for no more than 10 seconds the entire hotel arrived at breakfast within half an hour or so. Firstly no orange juice as they had ran out? its breakfast go buy some. No tea which when I mentioned it the waitress weighed the tea urn as if I was lying? No hot food was out and as soon as it came out it was gone so we waited for over an hour and a half to get some hot food. at 9.55am we were informed breakfast was closing at 10am and at 9.58am the breakfast buffet was finally all out and cleared away at 10am. You could not write this very unorganised

Was a lovely room and fabulous building, live the squeeky floor boards and beds very comfortable. Only downside was no heating and it was cold.
Heater supplied in wardrobe along with a fan, but small heater for a big room. Did not make much of an impact. Im sure maybe next month the hrating will be on. All in all loved the two night stay here.

Never before have I wanted to leave a hotel so soon, where do I start, after check in we had no milk, coffee, sugar or toilet roll. Went and got them, then found no remote control for TV. Breakfast - £10 each, I've had better in a bus station cafe. Food cold, what was put out anyway, seemed they just put it out when someone complained, plate heater wasn't working, apparently heating isn't switched on until November, staff rude and why oh why would you put carrots on the breakfast menu. The room was filthy, bathroom disgusting with rust, cracked tiles, black grout and window paint peeling, all evidence provided to the receptionist who handled our complaint well. Felt so sorry for her though as others were complaining. One star review is only because of the receptionist Kayleigh and the fact I can't score zero. I've stayed in better hostels, the front facade is spectacular the back is like an inner city block of 1960s flats or a pensioners home. Don't be conned out of your money and if Hotels.com can, they should remove it.

4 of us for the weekend. Rooms were great. hotel staff were brilliant. Hotel was clean. Breakfast was spot on.

Hotel great, staff great, room great.
Pillows awful, room too warm on arrival despite no radiators being switched on.
A member of staff (I presume), banging on the door of a room nearby at midnight, and the ensuing banging of doors for the following 30 minutes, isn’t something we’d like to experience again.
Overall though, we’d stay again.

The hotel was a little dated, and I had some very noisy neighbours but the room was clean, however I did not received any cleaning service for the first two days of my stay.
For the amount paid, it was very useful and easy access to Oxford where I was working.

Room was sufficient for our needs, the bed was lovely and comfortable. Some parts need a bit of attention and are run down but it didn't impact greatly on our stay.
The breakfast was amazing. Cannot fault anything in the bar or restaurant. Staff were lovely.

Enjoyed our 3 day stay at this Whatley Hall hotel. Just a few problems 1) TV remote did not work on arrival. 2) The bathroom basin did not hold the water in the basin . Reported problems to reception and quickly sorted out the problems. Breakfast good , but could do with plate warmer as plates very cold as also cups very cold cooling off the tea and breakfast very quickly.

Our room was dirty, the carpet was all stained, there was a metre circle mouldy leak in the bathroom ceiling the above shower.
The windows had thick dirt and mould around the handles to open, needless to say did not touch wallpaper was hanging off above the bed clearly damp in the room, no central light, managed with 2 bedside lamps and desk light.
Despite complaining o the next morning, an attempt was made to clean the windows not very successful.
Daresay will not return shocking weekend away

Lovely old building and great staff, but has certainly seen better days. Could do with better double glazing and a lick of paint. Otherwise no issues.

Nice hotel, with parking behind the hotel. It’s a tight squeeze between two buildings but does just about fit a large car through.
A nice breakfast and for the price we were pleasantly happy.
My main gripe was there was a lot of short black hairs all down the bath. I only stayed one night and decided not to have a shower.
No bin in the room, just a tiny bathroom bin so had to leave larger rubbish (water bottles etc) on the side, not too bad for one night stay.

hi, the room smelt very badly of sewerage, we told the housekeeper and she said they new about it and left us an air freshner, not very good to be honest, couldnt see any point of using the safe as it wasnt even bolted to the wall so could be carried away , when booked it was a buffet breakfast and on the monday there was ne buffet, staff were ok and friendly
main thing was the horrible smell in the bathroom which spoilt everything
stayed sun 8th sept to weds 11th sept , room 65
think we should at least get a voucher for compensation for next year as we come every year
thanks

Old building with alot of history. Loved the letter provided with information about room 52 and what it was used for. Lovely dinning room and gardens

Our original room had mould around the bath, pillows were yellow and stained. Then moved us into a different room which was slightly better but still not great. Looked and sounded a lot better in the pictures online

The old building is in dire need of refreshing. It is in a very tired and is scruffy in parts. Very limited menu . Some staff seemed lacking in basic training . The restaurant is very limited and the menu basic. Complimentary tea and cofee in the room but no milk? Had to request it from reception. A good location, but the whole setup needs attention

Beautiful Hotel reception staff very helpful.
Breakfast was a shambles.

Good position for our trip around Banbury.
The entrance to the car park is challenging if you have a larger vehicle!!

On arrival we found that the TV didn’t work, there was no milk in the room for tea and coffee, the bedside lamp didn’t work and the toilet seat was broken. The bathroom wasn’t terribly clean - see image. I was staying with my young child but there was quite a lot of noise from surrounding rooms too.

It is a beautiful hotel. Just a couple of small things, it needs a bit of TLC with cleaning but appreciate it’s a very old building, shutters to outside windows didn’t meet but I didn’t mind the fresh air. The shower wasn’t very powerful again only a minor thing and despite booking a double bed it was two pushed together, again for the price it was perfectly acceptable and not a major deal and we will definitely be back again. The breakfast was 5*

I’m afraid our stay was not what we expected. The room was unclean despite not being available until 15 minutes after the book in time. The room was in need of a refurbishment.
There was a warning in the bathroom stating the bath mat must be used but there wasn’t one. I asked at the desk for one and the receptionist said she would send one up to the room. This didn’t happen so we had to shower without.
We were kept awake through the night by the sounds of other guests in the room next to us and above us having sexual relations.
Overall a disappointing stay and will not be returning.

Some of the breakfast staff were a bit cold in their approach to telling us what was on offer for breakfast. The staff behind reception were great, very nice and accommodating. Room was okay, bath tiles could do with a change, was a bit old and dirty. Otherwise everything else was fine.

In desperate need of renovation. Room was out dated and cleanliness was questionable.
Lovely staff trying their best under impossible circumstances to keep the guests happy.

I greatly enjoyed my stay at Whately Hall. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The room and the common spaces were clean. The elevator/lift worked. The room was not at all expensive, and the food was top notch -- restaurant quality. It's basically across the street from the town center on High St., within walking distance of the bus center and the train (which is a bit further out). It's also directly across the street from the taxi cab car park.

I arrived to find an historic building, with wood panelling, broad wooden railed staircase & a warm welcome. A very decent evening meal was booked, eaten in a well kept, stepped garden. The service was excellent. I new my stay was going to be enjoyed, & it was. Hopefully back next year for the Cropredy music festival. I will stay at the Hall, if available.
