Very nice place

It is important for CPAP users to have at least 2 electrical outlets by the bed, this hotel only has one.

Rented 4 rooms ac in all the rooms barely blew cold air, tried getting them to fix it but wasn’t any better. One room had roaches, and wasn’t to clean. Front desk charges fees for any little thing. Property is in a great location by a nice beach but I’d rather stay somewhere else next time

The property is on the older side but well maintained. The beach is steps away from Playa Ropa. The only down fall is there is no ice machine on the premises and no refrigerator in the rooms.

Beautiful well maintained property. Tanya at the front desk very helpful and proffessional All maintentance staff friendly. Food in the restaurant good for breakfast, overcooked for supper and more expensive than surrounding places. especially beer and alcohol.
Only recommendation would be have a mini fridge in the rooms. And expedia shouldn't promise king size beds with ocean views they have only five on site.

Beach was very close and very easy to walk

This place is quiet to relax, having access to the beach is great. The waves are calm and children can have fun and play in the waves. The hotel is an old but acceptable structure. Every night we enjoy the beautiful sunset! The staff was very friendly and helped us in every way possible. Breakfast and whiting were perfect. All the rest of the food is acceptable. WHAT NEEDS TO BE IMPROVED IS TO HAVE MORE VARIETY IN BEER. THEY HAVE ONLY ONE TYPE. THEY ALSO NEED NEW TOWELS, THEY ARE VERY OLD! FOR 2 DAYS OF 3 OF OUR STAY THEY DID NOT HAVE BEACH TOWELS AND THE HOTEL WAS NOT FULL TO ITS CAPACITY. ALSO, IN OUR ROOM THE TOWELS WERE VERY OLD AND STAINED.
THESE MEXICAN VILLAS HAVE A VERY EXCELLENT LOCATION. IT JUST NEEDS AN UPDATE SO URGENT!
BIG THANKS TO THE NIGHT SECURITY MANAGER! HE IS DOING A GREAT JOB!!
WE HOPE FOR THE FUTURE WHEN WE RETURN TO THIS PLACE THEY HAVE DONE THE REMODELING AND THEY HAVE ENOUGH AND NEW TOWELS.
WE STILL HAD A GREAT TIME!

The service was good and the staff was responsive. Although the towels were clean they were stained and frayed. They ran out of beach towels. The television remote was old and the television was not working well. The hotel seemed old and out dated . The pools were a lot smaller than they looked in the pictures. We ended purchasing day passes at the hotel next door.

Our original accommodation fell through quite last minute for spring break and we had to scramble to find a place. We chose Hotel Villa Mexicana and we were so glad we did. It has a great location right on the beach. It is walking distance to Las Gatas, and downtown Zihua (we did both with our two children under 5). There is a little Mercado with souvenirs/beach things right next door.
The food at the restaurant was delicious and decently priced. All of the staff were courteous and helpful. We had no issue getting beach chairs every day.
We upgraded our room to have ocean view/poolside and I recommend it. Worth every Penny (especially with small kids). The rooms are basic, and don’t have a fridge but we had a cooler and made it work just fine.
Make sure to check out Loot, and Triton nearby and try the breakfast at the Hyatt next door (for a bit more $$$).

The perfect location on the beach and the always amazing staff!

We loved that the hotel was right on the beach. We loved the wait staff in the restaurant. Most everyone staying there had been there before, sometimes had been visiting there for many years, which says a lot about the way the staff treated you - as old friends, as new friends made. We loved it and will be back!

Love the location and setting. Easy breakfast in the morning. Beds are too firm for me, but overall, a nice, convenient, comfortable place to stay.

Great place. We will stay there again for sure!

For the price it is not worth it. The staff is very unhelpful, limited options at the restaurant for dinner if you are vegetarian, they let all the people put out their towels and save chairs at 8am even though they arent there so there are none left for anyone, even though all of them just have a towel on it.

Villa Mexicana never disappoints! I truly appreciate coming back each year and seeing the same wonderful staff. They are accommodating and friendly and makes our stay all that more enjoyable.

Loved the access to the beach and how small town it seemed

Right on the beach, wonderful staff lots of friendly repeat folks HOWEVER, the one & only complaint from all who was asked was the pillows need replacing. They are horrendous. Most repeat customers state they go to Sam’s club & but their own. That’s the only gripe.

Good: You cannot beat the location in front of the most beautiful beach of Zihuatanejo. The rooms are clean and great bkfast restaurant.
Bad: Personnel is rude, lacking understanding of a minimum customer service. They lack enforcement of rules and let guests do whatever they want which affects others. No place to enjoy the beach as all of the chairs are reserved by guests with towels.

Everything.

No HOT Water. At All. The TVs were messed up in both rooms. We got hit with unexpected surcharges at check-in (prepaid US$722 with Expedia; had to give another US$355 at desk). The food was awful; cocktails were watery. The only good part of this place is the lead photo.

It was close to the beach, very walkable shore line.

I enjoyed that this property is located right in the beautiful beach of La Ropa! The workers are very attentive of fixing issues when they occur. The front desk staff are extremely helpful!! . Also the restaurant on site is superb. The only drawback is that the restaurant opens at 8am. The hotel should have a coffee machine accessible at 6am for guests.

For those searching for a basic hotel in a great location, this property may be for you.
Basic accommodations and rooms, that are generally well-kept for an older hotel. They do lack drawer space for clothes, although they do have a decent sized closet for hanging clothes. The staff do a great job keeping the rooms and balance of the hotel property clean and tidy.
The on-site restaurant serves a wide range of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. It's a little spendy for certain selections, but the food overall is good if you prefer to stay on the property.
The hotel features a couple of swimming pools with the main infinity pool right in the main beach lounger area facing the ocean. The pool can get a bit busy, especially on weekends when occupancy goes up.
The hotel is located in Zihuatanejo Bay on Playa la Ropa. It's a great walking beach and generally safe to wade into and swim in. The waves and under tow aren't too crazy like other beaches.
You can walk to a number of restaurants within 10 minutes of the resort and there a ton of great restaurants in downtown Zihuatanejo, but the walk is a bit challenging because of the hilly terrain.

We were able to walk to Playa la Ropa beach right outside our door. The restaurant at the hotel was amazing. Taxis were around the corner from the hotel if we needed to go to the pier (downtown).
4.0 / 10.0
Hotel Mexicana is in a great location right on the Playa Ropa. It is a fairly old facility that could use a little make over and upgrade. Knowing the rooms are bare basic the location, staff, and ease to pool an sea are top rated. Some staff members who made our stay the best included Susana FD who helped us after we left one bag behind, She went above board to mail a package to us in Mexico City before we left the country. Each day she kept us informed on how it was proceeding. She saved our trip really, and the hotel is lucky to have such a dedicated employee. Also Dolares was a great help in giving us one of the sea view rooms to enjoy the waves and views. The bar staff and the maintenance people where friendly and always had a smile, they give the hotel a great personality.
