This is a lovely hotel set in beautiful grounds. Very friendly staff who made us feel very welcome. I would particularly applaud receptionists.
Only slight negative would be dinner. Placed at a table which wasn’t set properly and had to pinch cutlery from an adjoining table. Even when the waitress came to take our order she didn’t notice!
But overall we lived our stay. Room was very well equipped, quiet and very comfortable.

Two single beds pushed together gap very annoying

Very poor operator service. I was travelling with children and was promised interconnecting rooms. This did not happen. I have had no reply IHG with an apology. I tried calling them to get help, however, no luck. I tried to sort the problem at check out, again, no luck! It was a difficult stay.

The old part of the building is really imposing in its red brick and traditional appearance. The modern hotel part is nothing special to look at.
However the rooms were comfortable and cosy and i slept really well. Little dated round the edges but all in a nice place

The hotel was overbooked, so I was outbooked to another hotel with quite lower standards a 12 min. drive away. I also got split up from my travelling companions. I heard that the same had happened for other guests as well. I asked for some kind of compensation, without success.

The hotel restaurant was excellent. The picture for the hotel is a little misleading…the parking area is by a white building next to the hotel. Reception and the restaurant are in the building pictured.

The setting was quiet unique based on the university grounds. We stayed during the summer holidays, it may be quiet different during term time. The grounds are lovely.

Our stay was only marred by three very minor issues:
1) there was no decent coffee available at breakfast as the coffee machine was broken. The alternative coffee was really not nice at all.
2) the bar didn’t start serving until 6pm and the selection of drinks on display seemed very limited.
3) the bedroom window locking mechanism was broken so it failed to close properly.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful and we would definitely stay at the hotel in the future.

Convenient location for Dumfries and as a one night stop over for onward travel to Edinburgh.
Staff very friendly and helpful and easy car parking.
Room was basic but had everything we needed for one night.
If you want breakfast get a voucher from reception first (rather than going straight to restaurant) as you’ll get a price reduction.

Stopped here for one night on the way up north and will definitely be back!

We booked an accessible room but unlike our previous stay there this had no walk in shower.
Repeated fire alarms on the Monday evening didn’t improve.
On Monday evening my partner unfortunately fell and I was unable to help her up so I pressed the assistance button . Reception phoned but was only interested in telling me how to switch it off and didn’t ask what the problem was, then said she would send a colleague. The colleague then arrived and proceeded to show me how to switch it off and was about to leave when I pointed out my partner on the floor. “Oh , I will get a colleague “. Then a man ,who I assume was the duty manager “ arrived and we were able to get her up.
The lift was then out of order for two days so I don’t need to elaborate on the problem of being disabled on the first floor.
I must at this point praise staff who helped me get her down the stairs but would suggest you get a different contractor to maintain your lift.
So all this did nothing to enhance our visit, the reason for which was the funeral of my partners 99 year old father

A clean, comfortable hotel 1 1/2 miles from Dumfries town centre set in beautiful grounds. Very attractive and peaceful. Rooms clean and comfortable, with air conditioning, excellent shower. A fridge would have been nice. Restaurant food in the evening OK although breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of both hot and cold items. Good coffee. Friendly, obliging staff both front of house and in the restaurant.

The front desk woman was enormously helpful getting our cab situation sorted out and with recommendations for our short stay. The restaurant really exceeded expectations. Every person we encountered gave amazing service and made us feel so special and cared for. Thank you!

I was well received by receptionist, if I have to rate her it will be 5 stars , very warm friendly and easy to talk to personally , however the elevators was not working since my wife is disabled and our room was on the 1st floor, but the receptionist saved the day, I've been recommended by a friend to stay here and I will definitely recommend the holiday inn to my other friends . I will definitely be back.

Great staff who make you feel very welcome. Lovely hotel in beautiful surroundings. As it’s a bit out of the way, dining options are limited unless you want to drive or eat in the hotel.
