Extremely professional staff and in amazing location.

Comfortable room, welcoming staff and excellent breakfast. We’d return.

Staff were very helpful with directions, parking, Ortigio is another limited parking, Low Emissions Zone in Italy / Sicily, so valet parking is the way to go. Recommendations of sightseeing and cafes & restaurant are spot on.

The most perfect location! Ortigia is really special. Staff so helpful, room very clean. Delicious breakfast with continental fare but also scrambled eggs and bacon, and really lovely coffee.

Nice large clean room and attached bath. Great albeit small shower but our first in 4 days that actually drained (yay)! Staff very nice & helpful. With an attached restaurant for drinks & snacks it’s very convenient. Only drawback is finding parking in the local lots as the parking is very difficult in the area. Be sure to download EasyPark app before you leave also as there is no on site parking at the hotel and several of the machines in the parking lots don’t work.

We spent two night at this hotel. The location is really nice. I can’t say enough about the staff. They work flawlessly as a team and made our stay so comfortable. I wish I could write all their names in this review. Thank you for all you did for us.

This hotel was very clean and in a good location for exploring Ortigia. Not too many stairs to reach the first floor. The breakfast was very good, and the young man in charge was very helpful several times on our 3 night stay.
The rooms are plain but clean and large. We enjoyed the small balcony. On weekend nights the crowd below was quite loud, but the AC mostly muffled the outdoor noise.

Ortigia is an island and this hotel is in the best part of it. Walk to everything and a huge choice of restaurants and shops. Combine that with the charm of Ortigia I will be back again.

The owner is personally involved and attends to all detail. The hotel location is great for easy access to everything you would like in a stay.

Very nice room, location and breakfast. Lovely staff. Would definitely recommend.

Spacious and very comfortable room and bathroom, quite close to the entrance of the island, with an good location near a busy square. Excellent service by Andre at the desk who is super helpful. Breakfast was delicious and with many options, both hot and cold, and excellent coffee from Victoria who provided very attentive and warm service. We felt very welcome and the staff was the best part of this hotel. Just a few issues of concern: there is no elevator and a lot of steps to the second floor (but Andre helped us with luggage); and at nights there is a bar outside which can make a little noise until late. Parking is, like seems standard in Sicily, at a paid garage about 700m away. Overall we had a wonderful stay and would stay here next time we return. Ortigia is an excellent place to stay if visiting Syracuse.

Location is very good. Property has not been upgraded or maintained in years. Needs a serious overhaul and a deep cleaning. Linens are quite old. Bathrooms poor condition. Breakfast was offsite due to off season.

Located in the central part of Ortigia the hotel is very conveniently placed
Parking is a problem and clients must park 900 meters away in a city run parking garage... if a kid tells you he is collecting, give him points for originality. No money though
This is not a luxury hotel but is well priced.
The rooms with balconies can be noisy.
We really liked the staff

Wonderful location and Marco, our host was extremely helpful! Definitely would stay again.

when we arrived traveling with a second couple , they were forced to stay in a smaller room two blocks away at a different hotel, possibly because of a problem , but I really think they over booked and it was our tough luck. there was no elevator and I lugged two suit cases after 3 weeks of travel , up 3 stories to the room, not pleased,

Our hotel room was a good size, with balcony, and handily accommodated three of us traveling together. The Gran Bretagna is in a great location, on Siracusa’s island of Ortygia ((Ortigia in Italian), described as the oldest part of the city. We could walk to all island attractions and restaurants; we walked to key attractions on the mainland, too. Parking was a short walk from the hotel and came in at 10 euros a day.
However, it did not occur to me to confirm our hotel had an elevator. The reception desk is on the second floor, 15 stair steps from street level. It was another 10 steps up, a short walk in a hall and five steps down to our room. Also, the breakfast room and a lounge are at street level, down a flight of steps accessible in the reception area. We managed this (and the hotel clerk helped with luggage) but, for others, this may not be doable. If the Expedia listing mentioned there is no elevator, I just did not see it.
Would I recommend this hotel? This review form only offers choices of yes or now, but it is not that simple. It would depend on the traveler.

A good base from which to explore Ortega but male desk staff a real letdown

Huge flight of stairs; no parking; no elevator; breakfast in musty basement

The room and service were terrible. The room smelt of strong cleaning fluids. The shower door would not close easily. It overlooked a central atrium so no view, and a walkway to other rooms went past the window, so people could look in. The cleaner kept leaving the window unlocked so security was poor. A strong light was on outside the window most of the night so I didn't sleep. We were only give one bath towel for two people and the toilet paper was not replaced. The main receptionist man was really grumpy most of the time. Wifi never worked.

Staff extremely helpful , clean hotel we had room Cleaned daily.
Very convenient location for busses , restaurants, shops, sea. There were several city beaches where the water was clean and you could swim close to hotel. Other beaches were far and you had to take an hour bus journey to get to them. But station was close to hotel and services were regular.
Hotel facilities basic but functional .
