After visiting Wooly Grange and being wowed by the property and service we had high hopes for the Ickworth. Unfortunately the property is not in nearly as good condition (e.g. crumbling window frames in the bedroom, leaking roof in the dining room/conservatory, cumbersome portable AC unit permanently connected up to a slat in the sash window, etc.). The staff, while all pleasant and well meaning, were not as on the ball as the WG staff. The kitchen also was a let down. Dinner was overpriced, meanly portioned, and average in quality. The National Trust property and grounds were excellent however.

Staff are friendly, helpful and professional, rooms are spacious, well equipped and clean, hotel is traditional, grounds are amazing and worth exploring, restaurant food is very good and worth the wait
4.5
Wonderful place to escape and enjoy the grounds.

*Food & Drink*
Drink menu was pretty large with options, food menu was a bit basic with a lot of overlap between lunch and dinner. On the pricey side for what you are ultimately getting but did taste good. People getting high tea in the conservatory looked to have a good time
*Room & Bed*
Room feels a bit dated and worn down (ex stained ripped carpet). Room was overall clean and had necessities, temperature/heating was good. Bed was quite old with a very soft old spring mattress, probably the area that could benefit the most in terms of an upgrade in the room.
*Common Areas & Internet*
Free wifi throughout the location with stronger speeds in the lobby/library area compared to the rooms, in case you need to take work calls.
As the location is very family friendly, you will need to deal with kids running and screaming through the hallways at most hours of the day. There is a cinema in the lower level for kids to watch and be occupied alongside a kids library.
*Overall Service*
Nice traditional building with scenery and charm. Service could have been better in terms of speed/availability. Would recommend for parents/young family looking for a getaway, not the best for someone looking to get rest with some peace and quiet.

The hotel described its proposition as luxury family hotel, other than the price, little else is luxury. The bath tub is scratched, hot food at breakfast and dinner took time to come, choice of fruits was limited at breakfast and the lift was broken. Although, individual staff members were all very friendly. It felt like they were trying hard to maintain a run down place.

Fantastic property with friendly staff

Quiet, in a beautiful location with very helpful staff.

Beautiful hotel and grounds, have done well to keep it in such good shape bearing in mind the age of the hotel.

Our room was absolutely stunning and incredibly comfortable and spacious. The staff were all so attentive and helpful, making our stay so memorable and special! The food was amazing and the stay couldn’t have been any better! We would highly recommend a stay at the Ickworth Hotel as you will not be disappointed- complete luxury blended with peace and tranquility! BLISS!!

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here, convenient position, best thing is the opportunity to get a good morningsxwalk in before my business day starts.

Extremely comfortable room. Excellent dinner and breakfast!
Friendly welcome from receptionists.

Lovely hotel and staff. Perfect getaway for our toddler and baby.

Beautiful hotel, very special place to stay but food let it down, breakfast was awful! Do not be put off by being a family hotel, we had a space in a “grownups” dining room!

Hotel is in a great location. It has a lot going for it but it is let down badly by its food service. We paid a lot for dinner on Saturday evening but the food was poor; a cheese souffle that was dense and rubbery, a parfait dessert that had been sitting around getting warm and a bottle of wine that wasn't served until we had almost finished the main course. Breakfast was even worse. Most of it had been sitting around for hours and service was poor with staff looking very uninterested. It is a shame, the hotel has its quirks that can be overlooked (bathroom window that was stuck open, loo seat that didn't fit) and reception staff could not have been friendlier but to pay so much for our stay we expected a lot better. This hotel really needs to sort out its food service, it is letting the hotel down badly.

Perfect!

Check-in and reception staff were so friendly, helpful and accommodating-we were given a really wonderfully warm welcome.
Swimming pool was lovely, really warm and a great size and grounds were beautiful.
We ate dinner at the hotel and the food was good, however the observation of the restaurant is that it is dated in terms of its decor and condition. The chairs were uncomfortable to eat on as a slightly odd height for a full dinner. There were also some dirty uncleared tables which restaurant staff seem oblivious to, they were you d staff and not very attentive at dinner e.g given food with no cutlery to eat with! However, in contrast, breakfast staff were really attentive and thorough.
All in all, a lovely hotel, full of history and character which is very comfortable. I would certainly stay again

We stayed for 2 nights. Every member of staff where extremely helpful and friendly. They even looked after our dog Charlie whilst we went for dinner. Food was lovely.
Grounds are absolutely beautiful.
House gave a great insight into how life on the estate was.
For a short break, we would recommend this place.

Lovely location and grounds. Typical national trust hotel, little dated and quaint but good service, nice food and spotlessly clean.

lovely hotel

Hotel is not all that it said it would be. It was not made clear when I booked my room that I wouldn’t be staying in the hotel and in fact staying in the lodge a 5-7minute walk from the main hotel. This was not idea as I couldn’t use the pool facilities as I was looking forward to doing. The room itself was very dated. All in all it was not worst the premium paid to stay there
4.5
Very well maintained and authentic furnishings in well decorated rooms and apartments. Excellent library and drawing room. The food was suitable for many different tastes. Staff continually attentive and available to answer any enquiries.
4.5
Gorgeous hotel in beautiful grounds. Hours of walking and things to see. Very comfortable room and bed with beautiful views. Great breakfast and friendly helpful service. All in all a fantastic stay and cant wait to return
4.5
The Ickworth Hotel was ideally situated for a relaxing country break. The interior and furnishings are dated and it would benefit from a spruce up. We loved our cosy room which was actually quite spacious.
The hotel would benefit from having a separate bar area because although we have no issues with small children it would be nice to separate the adult and children’s areas.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Very pleasant stay

Wonderful
4.5
Beautiful setting and very welcoming. Room was clean but aged, lighting really dim in bedroom and just overall tired. The swimming pool is very nice and complimentary in price. The worse part of visit was the restaurant, high end prices for mediocre food sadly. Very limited menu and not refined to the setting or cost, i truly believe there must be chef/kitchen staffing issue and could change overnight if resolved.
4.5
Booked the wrong dates by mistake and contacted Expedia within 2 minutes to request a refund. Expedia could not get hold of the hotel and when I spoke with then directly to resolve, they would not cancel the booking and charged in full. Then they tried to re-sell the room I booked, the one they would not refund..!! AWFUL SERVICE, SHABBY HOTEL, AVOID....!!!!!
4.5
A superb small hotel in a historic building. Peaceful location surrounded by beautiful countryside.
4.5
Room in the main house was pleasant and comfortable with antique furniture and comfortable bed. Large bathroom with plenty of light.
Restaurant was excellent and they put couples in a separate room to families which made for a peaceful experience. Breakfast good too.

RELAXING, ATTENTIVE STAFF
