Lovely one night stay on the way to Birmingham airport, friendly staff, good food, comfortable stay, old public house.
4.3
I would definitely stay here again. It was a welcome retreat situated in a pretty village location. I was staying overnight on my own and didn't want to stay in one of the busy large chain hotels. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the pub was typically traditional. My only grumble was the walls were very thin, i had someone staying in the room above, and you could hear every footstep.
4.3
Beautiful pub and rooms, we had a warm welcome by staff and enjoyed the food and our stay.

I chose this hotel for location (close to where I was going for work the next day), room price, and (importantly for me) because when I looked online there were a few vegan options on the menu shown.
I added a note to the hotel on my booking form to forewarn them I am vegan and would require vegan food for dinner and breakfast.
When I arrived there were no vegan options, although I was told that the vegetarian lasagne was vegan and the other option was broccoli and stilton soup … so actually the soup was not vegan due to the cheese ingredient and I had no confidence that the lasagne would genuinely be vegan either.
The staff didn’t think they had posted a menu online so the existence of a sample menu for booking remains a mystery. My message to the hotel had either not arrived or not been read - I will never know.
Anyway the staff were all genuinely lovely and the chef made me a vegan mushroom risotto for dinner (be warned the specials are quite pricey) and I just had to make the best of breakfast with toast and marmalade, mushrooms, tomato and beans.
Overall it’s a nice little, old fashioned (and very old) pub. Rooms are reasonably priced, small but have everything you need (apart from nondairy milk for your tea/ coffee) and the bed was comfy. Quite close to the airport so noisy planes but I slept like a log regardless.
Would I stay here again? Good question.
I would consider it but would personally phone ahead and agree the vegan options for food and drinks.

Great room, food and staff

We had a room outside the actual pub, so it was very quiet and enjoyable. The staff are naturally happy and friendly, that's what comes from a family run business. Will be staying there again the next time we need to go to the NEC, which is only a few minutes drive away.
4.3
Nice quaint pub very friendly staff both evening and morning Shower hose not great
4.3
Perfect stay. Very easy and cheap to get an Uber to the NEC too. Village is really lovely. Great food. Will stay again.
4.3
Good overnight stay for Birmingham Airport travel. Stayed in one of the rooms off the main pub building which needs a bit of updating. Good breakfast and friendly atmosphere in bar for a few drinks in the evening, small carpark to rear of pub.
4.3
This is a super pub inn in a small village not too far from the M42 and Solihull. Excellent service, good breakfast and a clean, comfortable room. I would definitely recommend a stay here. They also serve food in the evening.
4.3
A friend recommended the White Lion to us as a great place to stay that was handy for the NEC.
We enjoy real ale and they served a number of different ales - we tried 2 and they were both excellent and obviously well kept. We ate very well too.
We loved the character of the place, from mismatched chairs to pretty china. The staircase to the bedrooms is very steep and our bedroom had a step down into the bathroom. It was warm and cosy and we had lovely big bath towels.
We loved our stay and would be very happy to stay here again.
4.3
Host very friendly and informative. Shame hs2 is ruining the area and surrounding roads. All in all a very well run pub
4.3
Lovely staff , fantastic food.. highly recommend the home made lasagne.
Alot of history and character, loved it.
Great location for NEC Birmingham.
Will be back, Nicki

A perfect end to my holiday. easy to get to from Birmingham airport and back on the motorway quickly the next morning. Friendly, clean, comfortable and excellent cooked breakfast.
4.3
Pleasant pub with good pub food, but my room was a great disappointment. It was not in the pub but was in a single-storey outhouse the other side of the beer garden. My room was so tiny the bed only fitted in with about 2 feet around it. The "bathroom" was just a loo, a tiny basin barely big enough to wash your hands, and a squashed shower cubicle which disdpensed only luke-warm water. I had to keep my toothbrush and razor on the floor. It was insecure - a footpath, accessible from the car park, ran past the small window, which had only a broken lock, so I had to sleep with the window closed - and while it might have been acceptable as a Eastern European truckstop or an army barracks, for £108 it was a joke.
4.3
Lovely little pub with rooms, all very comfortable and clean. I was in the annex building which had been tastefully renovated. Everything you might want and a fab breakfast to boot.
4.3
This place has seen better days, my room was the smallest ive ever stayed in and felt damp and unclean, very over priced. Food and drink are good, great breakfast. Probably won't stay here again..
4.3
super helpful and friendly from the start to end.
the food is simply awesome
4.3
Great place, individual and full of character. In an ideal world it would have EV charging. Not good if you're expecting a lie-in, it's too close to the airport for that!
4.3
Great room. They had a lovely area for smoking. Breakfast was the best breakfast i have ever had. Tea and coffee in room even provided decaf.
4.3
Just an overnight stay for the airport. It was very cold weather but the radiator was not on in our room when we arrived so it was freezing.
4.3
Very friendly & excellent service. The tiny shower would be my only criticism. Quirky & comfortable. Would definitely stay again. Well recommend
4.3
Very friendly and helpful staff, always ready to assist with any concern. Very quiet and peaceful place. Great connection to Birmingham with train station near by.
4.3
Lovely ole place with good food, staff and comfortable room. Only 3 miles from the National Motorbike Museum.
4.3
Very nice Inn, food excellent, staff very friendly. Room was very small and compact
4.3
This was a little gem. I needed to get as close as I could to the NEC without paying through the nose. I was also arriving late (after midnight) and they could not be more accommodating. The room was spacious and comfortable and breakfast was very good with faultless service.
If there was a negative it is what you’d expect from an old property like this …… The floor boards creak but nothing the. owners can do to fix that.
4.3
Another stay at the Red Lion… always a pleasure. Great food, great staff and lovely room. What more could you ask?
4.3
Landlord and staff really friendly amazing breakfast definitely recommended
4.3
Lovely 400 year old pub/Inn/restaurant with very friendly staff. All the quirks of a 400 year old building and very cozy within. Great food and bar area too! Only 4.2 miles from the NEC, will most definitely return!
4.3
Very accommodating with regards to early room entry.
4.3
Good food and friendly staff.
4.3
Great stay here. All the staff were amazing and couldn’t help more. Nice pub with friendly locals. Will deffo be returning (if they will let us 😂)
4.3
Very friendly and accommodating. Dog friendly which was an important part of our stay.
4.3
What an amazing place to stay. Just great hospitality, amazing beer and great breakfast.
4.3
All good, would go back again and recommendOne blip, the kitchens were closed on Sunday, if that information was to hand, I did not spot itThey recommended a hotel nearby, not a good mealGreat bed, I needed it after a long day at the NEC
4.3
It was really cosy and friendly. I booked it for an overnight stay for a conference but would go back as a short holiday break.
4.3
Excellent staff, good food but room very poor, not a even door to toilet/bathroom which was tiny.
4.3
Staircase up to rooms was steep and upstairs hall cramped, and door to room low, but once in the twin room it was spacious, well appointed and comfortable.
Staff very friendly and restaurant very good.
4.3
Qwerky, pleasant village property. Clean comfy rooms. Good food on site, very pleasant helpful staff
4.3
It was nice to stay in a family run Inn rather than go to a sterile hotel after a long day at the NEC. The room was comfortable and perfectly clean.
We had dinner which was very tasty and proper home cooking although service was slow. The choice of cereal and juice was very limited but the full English breakfast had quality ingredients and well cooked. We would definitely go again.
