Large room, comfy bed, good large towels, strong shower, excellent friendly staff. The best thing was the delicious food.
The hotel is in the middle of great walking country . We walked in Dovedale and to Monsal Head and visited Biddulph Grange on the last day.
Many cafes in town for sandwiches and a famous cheese shop.
Nothing

Staff very accommodating in superb historic location

Excellent location in a beautiful Peak District village. Staff was pleasant and helpful, especially as we arrived late and needed sustenance. Old fashioned, comfortable stay in an enormous bedroom with bathroom overlooking market square.

As always, a great base to stay for walking and then getting a good priced meal for New years Eve
Would have been nice to have had some sort of entertainment for New years Eve, but still, a good night

loved the location and super comfy and cosy beds.
Jenny helped us with the booking and sorted a dog friendly room - really appreciated that.
Prior to booking I rang many times to sort out a dog friendly room - no answer.
They don’t light the fire and there is no atmosphere in the bar at all. Felt uncomfortable and not welcoming which was such a shame. food v basic.

Breakfast was lovely.... was offered between 8.30 and 9.30..... would of been better offered a little later till 10.00/10.30am
The carpets were tired.
Corridors had wall paper peeling off...
Draughty windows, and could hear people talking very clearly in other room next door and the workings of the kitchen staff below....so no lie ins as was too noisy

Needs some investment, everything very tired.
Food was not that great
Shower in the room was very poor, the only good thing was the bed was comfy.

Lovely building with lots of character. Parking on site and good location for lots of walks and attractions in the area.
My only disappointment was that the sound between rooms carried very easily (footsteps, snoring and tv etc) not that there's any possible quick fix for this that the pub could put in place.

Nice area to visit and not too far from where we live. Friendly local residents.
TWe travelled to celebrate my birthday and on arrival we were optimistic for our stay. We booked our meal giving ourselves time to explore the local area. We arrived back to get dressed for our celebration meal the shower in our ensuite seemed not to work so after appearing to try everything we could my husband went to find help on returning with Sam who did everything he took another try success with some water but little pressure which was unuserable he then said he would speak to the boss we awaited his return to no avail by this time our dinner booking was approaching so we quickly used the sink to then dress as we where hungry we sat down to order we ate and paid and left the food area at no point was there an apology except the boss was busy we were leaving in the morning and feeling tired decided to speak about it in the morning when the time arrived there was nobody to complain to since leaving we have called about 10 times with no answers as to why we were left unable to fully use the facilities hence the poor review iam giving the service we expected has been ignored can you please help. Thank you.

Food was good for breakfast and dinner. The room was a little tired. An old building, quirky hotel.
The door lock didn't work.

food was excellent
Bed very comfortable
view from room lovely
staff friendly
shower was very weak and took a long time to get to temperature. Bathroom was much too small and very difficult to use comfortably.
Room was extremely stuffy and hot as no windows opened and there were no vents in room or bathroom.

nice building in a lovely location with nice staff. free parking.
Wifi on the top floor was poor. Breakfast was fine if you wanted a cooked breakfast, but no yoghurt or fruit. Arrived on a sunday when they had clearly been very busy which meant a long delay for evening meal with a reduced menu.

Really nice room. Settee in the room with a view a nice touch. Lovely evening meal and great breakfast 😋 The staff were really were really helpful, friendly and pleasant.
Really seriously need to look at bathroom and shower area in room. The shower is almost a trickle and the knob almost looked dangerous (you could see electrics in a hole in the handle). The sink mirror was positioned for a child not an adult. Sorry to say this, but spoiled it a bit.

Breakfast was all I would have liked and easy to access
The sofa in the room is HUGE and has no where near enough cushions - we sank into it and were not at all comfortable.
The bed is fine and the bathroom etc. But you need to fix the sofa to make it a pleasant place to sit.

Fabulous view from room over village square. Spacious room with sofa
Bathroom tiny. Shower very weak. Toilet seat wouldn’t stay up. Breakfast - no fresh fruit
