About this cottage rental
Welcome to the Lake House on the Park, a warm and welcoming home on the shores of beautiful Varty Lake.
Two and a half hours from Toronto and just 30 minutes from both Kingston and Napanee, this well-appointed lakeside retreat sits on a quiet, treed lot and is the perfect place for couples with children to relax and enjoy life by the lake. This bright, spacious, year-round home is newly-renovated in a cozy, modern style.
The space
The house has four bedrooms, two baths, a family room, a living room, and an up-to-date kitchen. It features wifi, air conditioning, a gas fireplace, and a washer/dryer. The cottage is equipped with two TVs with sound bars (one in the living room and one in the family room). If you need to get a little work done, there are two desks available.
Step into the finished and heated garage which has been converted into a fabulous games room. There you’ll find lots of ways to have fun: a pool table, a foosball table, a mini basketball net, a dartboard, a TV with a sound bar, barstools, and a bar fridge.
The house features a huge front deck where you can watch the sunrise over the lake. Access to the water’s edge is level; just 20 steps across the grassy lawn will bring you to the dock. Enjoy a swim, or get out on the water with our two canoes, two stand-up paddle boards, or the 5-person pedal boat. The spacious patio includes a propane BBQ. In the evening, you can relax in Muskoka chairs that surround the lakeside fire pit, toasting marshmallows or simply gazing at the stars.
For those who enjoy fishing, Varty Lake is home to Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Yellow Perch, and Bullhead.
There is quick access to many local attractions you can explore, including:
* Centennial Park with its waterfront parkland with walkways, swimming, boat launch and picnic area;
* Camden Lake Provincial Wildlife Area which has walking trails, picnic areas, and great birdwatching; and
* The Cataraqui Trail with its multi-use recreation trails.
Come and enjoy lakeside living with all the comforts of the city.

While the property listing was relatively accurate, there were other issues worth noting: quality of water to swim was not comfortable as it was very shallow with reeds and mucky bottom; back deck is need of some repair with small hole in floor and loose trip at top of stairs that is a safety hazard; garbage management for a group our size was challenging given the lack of large containers. Kitchen was well stocked and good size. Lots of games and water toys available to use. Cabin was clean and spacious. Owner was easy to contact and very responsive. We would recommend that there be 3 double beds instead of 2 plus a fold out couch be available for group our size.

Had a small family reunion with 7 adults and 1 older teenager. We really enjoyed the house and the grounds. No beach front at the property and the lake is very weedy and shallow, but the fishing off the dock was fun and the water craft options at the house were great, with the exception of some missing paddle parts. There is a little swimming area just a few minutes drive away. The games garage was fun and enjoyed ourselves playing darts and pool. The kitchen appliances and tools were really good and we found that we brought things that we didn’t actually need. The only thing we weren’t keen on is that the floors seemed dirtier than we would have liked and the mop head was dirty so we couldn’t clean it ourselves. The supplied dishwasher pods and laundry pods was enough for our 4 day stay, but we ran out of paper towels and compost bags. Otherwise we enjoyed seeing the lake from the deck and the chipmunks & loons. Would recommend this house as it met all of our needs.
