About this cottage rental
Reaching the end of your journey, you will find yourself awestruck by the surroundings of Quarry Lodge. To each side of the track there are miles of trees and hilltops beyond. Nestled on the edge of the treeline near a lake, you first notice the silence of your setting before you enter your holiday home.
Inside, the meandering ground floor creates separated living spaces with plenty of space for your whole group in each. From the entrance the house flows into the kitchen and dining area, perfectly positioned for enjoying the view. The spacious living room branches off from the central hallway and has high ceilings, a wood burner, and a large comfortable corner sofa which you can't resist sinking into and taking a deep breath as you relax. All you can see from here is trees making it feel as though you are in another world. There are three bedrooms including one on the ground floor which can be a king-size double or a twin room, which helps to provide sleeping arrangements to suit everybody. Upstairs you really feel as though you are in a treehouse in the bedrooms and the modern family bathroom has a bathtub and rainfall shower.
Stepping out to the fully enclosed garden you’ll enjoy the freshness of the country air. To the side of the parking area is a separate utility with WC, keeping the noise of the washing machine from disturbing your evenings. Alongside the lawn and gravelled area is a secluded patio where you’ll find the hot tub* where you can relax in the bubbles looking out to the lake feeling invisible to the rest of the world. You will also find a games room with a pool table and table tennis, an amazing addition to your holiday here. Walks lead from the door and there are many outdoor activities on offer in the Forest of Dean and Symonds Yat nearby.
*Please make yourself aware of the hot tub rules and hours of use. An additional fee applies, and it must be requested at the time of booking.
*Dogs: 2 well-behaved dogs are welcome at the cottage at an additional cost each. Please let us know if you will be bringing a dog and we will then revise your booking confirmation. The pet fee is NOT included in your booking fee. A request for an additional fee per pet will be sent to you after you have placed your booking. Your pet fee must be paid for before your arrival date.

The place is lovely and the setting surpassed our expectations. The valley and trees surrounding the property were stunning. We would definitelty stay again.

We had the most amazing stay at Quarry lodge. The house is secluded, has amazing scenery all around yet is in a perfect location to explore the Forest of Dean.
Beds were very comfy, kitchen was well equipped. We used the bbq which was great. Our children loved the garden space and games room. Flip flops are needed to walk from the house to the hot tub as the patio is gravel.
The fire doors all over the house were a bit of a hazard for our children as they couldn’t get in or out of rooms independently and we were worried about them trapping fingers in doors. Fortunately no accidents happened but just to let others know who are travelling with young children.
We would love to return to this property.

Really enjoyed our stay. Everything was good. Just one suggestion for improvement - there is a safe, easy walk possible trough the estate from the cottage to Tarus Crafts which has some nice shops, cafe & and a micro pub. Unfortunately there's a combination locked gate which prevents access. Could guests have the combination to allow access? Walking along the road is much longer and not safe with kids or dogs

Would recommend this cottage and will return

We had an amazing weekend. The lodge was exactly what we were looking for. Surrounded by nature, the kids had endless games to play outside while parents enjoyed the beauty and calm of this place.

We booked Quarry lodge to spend time with the family for my husband’s 50th. The communication beforehand was spot on.right from the start. The welcome pack was excellent with lots of hints on where to go etc. It was easy to find using the three word app and the postcode. The location is amazing. The drive up to the house is beautiful and it backs on to the local wooded walk. First impressions were great- it was the small things such as tea, sugar, milk and filter coffee with biscuits. The house was extremely clean and easy to use the lockbox. The house is exactly as it looks in the photos. It’s a quiet location with an enclosed garden. Our small dog was perfectly safe in it. Sitting in it we saw a deer and a bird of prey. The hot tub was hot when we got there and the barn has a half size pool table and table tennis table which the men spent a long time in! We broke a glass one night and emailed as requested getting a quick response from the caretaker. All in all it was value for money, beautiful house and location and had plenty to keep us all busy - 5 adults and a baby. Even when we left the cleaner waited a respectable distance up the hill until we had left so we didn’t feel rushed. I would use Bolthole retreats again and absolutely stay in Quarry lodge again if I wanted a quiet, peaceful weekend with family.

A wonderful house in a fantastic secluded location! Everything very clean with a well equipped kitchen and hot tub was a great addition! Only slight negative point is that the living room with the fire had an unpleasant odour to it so needed to be well aired prior to use each time or have the fire lit to mask the smell. Otherwise everything else was excellent lovely big rooms and very comfortable

We had a really nice stay at Quarry Lodge, the facilities and location were perfect and just what we needed for a peaceful break away from busy life.

Lovely location for the property, really quiet and relatively remote which is what we wanted. Great dog walks right on the door step (literally).
Property was in great condition, hot tub was nice and the games room was a great addition.
Housekeeper was easy to contact with a couple of questions.
A fantastic stay and we would return.

Outstanding property and the surroundings were ideal, especially if you take a dog with you. The walks straight from the property were perfect for our energetic water loving Cocker Spaniel. We will definitely be back!

Booked this property for a surprise 60th birthday weekend for my dad. The property was immaculately clean and everything provided that we needed. Great location and a short walk to the deer park, only a 6 minute dive from the main road if needing to pop to a supermarket or nearby pub.
We did however have some difficulty in finding the property- the postcode provided took us to a lodge further up the road (alo part of Lydney Estates), and so did the app what.three.words. I think this could be reviewed to help customers to find the property easily in the future.

Super house, dog friendly enclosed garden, great view from the hot tub (although only really comfortable for 2 or 3 people) with no immediate neighbours.
Only a few light touches would enhance what is already a great property (i.e. fairy lights by hot tub, more subtle bedroom lighting and some sort of audio or entertainment media in the kitchen/dining room).

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this place, it was peaceful, quiet, private and scenic. The house itself was lovely and spacious and had all the amenities needed. Customer service was good, I was very impressed, when entered, everything was ready and it was very clean. The only thing for me was my bed was a little firm (but that’s just personal preference). We would definitely love to come back. Thank you!

Had the best time at Quarry Lodge with the family. It was situated in a beautiful position with lovely views, an abundance of nature on our doorstep and peace and quiet. The lodge was equipped with everything you could think of and didn't disappoint on the luxury front. The beds were very comfy too.
We loved the games room and the walks from the doorstep. We all intend to come back to Quarry Lodge every year!

We had a wonderful stay at Quarry Lodge. We made the most of the hot-tub and log burner and enjoyed walking through the Estate grounds taking in all the wildlife and surroundings! We also walked to the George Inn for dinner one evening - food was fantastic! Will definitely be back again - maybe with the children! :)

The lodge is equipped with everything you might need, the Information Booklet was the best we have seen and very helpful. Thoughtful gestures provided, tea, coffee, milk, orange juice, charcoal for bbq, hand wash and even fresh flowers.
Property is secluded and very tranquil, beautiful forest walks on the doorstep, yet has everything you need like shops and takeaways within a few miles radius’s.
Hot tub was an added bonus and fully enclosed garden was peace of mind for the dogs. We will be back that’s for sure.

The scenery is insane and made our little holiday amazing, everything was provided for a great stay! Maybe just a warning on the hot tap in the kitchen which seemed to get very hot.

Quarry Lodge is spacious, well decorated, well furnished and very comfortable. The location is perfect if you want to get away from it all. Can fully recommend paying for the hot tub as it's perfect with a view of the surrounding trees. Great base for exploring the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley. We hope to return!

Honestly if we could give it 10
Stars we would, it was just a little piece of chilled out Paradise. The photos absolutely do not do the scenery justice. It’s a stunning home in a gorgeous setting. We can’t wait to go back!
