About this house rental
Relax & enjoy this quaint and quirky, 1-story home in a quiet neighborhood on the west side of town. Our classic, mid-century bungalow situated on a large lot has been partially updated with some modern amenities, but holds it’s mid century character. According to guest feedback, exterior of the home needs some TLC. Since the home was built in the 1936 hallways and rooms are smaller than today's standards. Although this home is one level, there are additions that have a small step up or step down. Quirky layout, but open concept. Smaller kitchen, but fully stocked.
Fully fenced backyard is perfect for your furry friends to run and play. As a disclosure, parts of the fence are only 3 feet tall. Walking distance to Canyon Lake Park; minutes from the Black Hills National Forest off Highway 44; less than 8 minutes to downtown Rapid City; less than 5 minutes to west side shopping and restaurants; and of course only 30 minutes to Mount Rushmore. This home is sure to be the perfect basecamp for your adventures in the Black Hills!
Professionally hosted by Travis and Tai Dornfeld, native to the Black Hills.

This bungalow was perfect for our family of 5. It was a great location for ease of navigating all the places we wanted to explore in the Hills. It was also great having the grocery store and restaurant options so close. The evenings were so peaceful and we were able to enjoy sitting on the patio, grilling and the fire pit. If we are in the area again we will definitely stay again.

Plenary of space and such thoughtful amenities. Maps to hikes, games, a very helpful umbrella. lol
Seriously cute decor and an awesome location to drive to our fave Black Hills spots or bike into downtown. Loved our stay!

We were moving to a different state and wanted somewhere that we would be able to fit our 30 ft Penske truck along with our other vehicles. We were able to check in early and the truck fit perfectly in the rv parking section. We brought our dogs and they enjoyed the yard so much. The location was perfect and quiet, we enjoyed our stay very much!

This place worked well with my family and as a one night stayover in Rapid City.

This property worked great for us, group of 4 with 5th visitor. It’s an older home that has been fixed up. Two really big bedrooms that were comfortable plus a nice third. Nice appliances and amenities (really great out door spaces we took advantage of early morning/late evening. Great host that provided lots of useful local info, was super responsive and accepts pets. WOOF. It’s an older home so don’t expect a perfect layout, wide doorways and huge bathrooms. I would definitely stay here again when I return to Rapid City.

Spent 2 nights in Rapid City. Nice location to parks and convenient to attractions. Easy location in quiet neighborhood, however the neighborhood was a little questionable. It seemed safe, but houses were small and many were unkept.

Very different property. Off layout of the house. But had all the needed items. Property manager was great to work with.

Looking for a place to stay takes time. Think about what you need and location. This one was close to family, hiking on Mhill and Dairy Queen for us. The things that mattered. A weekend getaway that will happen again.

This place is super cute and perfect for our stop along to CA. Clean and great for family with dogs.

Warm and cozy home in a great location. We enjoyed our time here and will surely book again in the future.

A small house with various additions, not great construction but clean and nicely decorated.
House has a slight odor of old cigarette smoke and cat urine maybe in the bathrooms..
kitchen and living area are nice. Comfortable beds. Older neighborhood but quiet.

This location was perfect for our family and was close to everything we wanted to see and do(including mt rushmore! Also shopping and restaurants. The hosts also had a great touch with sending us information on places to eat and things to see and do while we were there. We had a couple issues that needed attention(minor things). And the hosts were very quick to respond and take care of us. We stayed for 7 nights and have nothing but good memories to take with us!

The neighbor that the property is very quiet. We traveled with our two chihuahuas, the fenced in yard was a bonus. We did not spend much time other than sleeping as we were seeing all the sites that are assessable for day trips.

Thank you for letting us stay in your lovely home. It was an enjoyable stay. It's small but spacious house with rooms plenty to spare. The owner has very thoughtfully placed useful stuff around the home. We highly recommend this place and if we ever come to SD again, we will definityly look you up. Thank you.

Cozy house with a good front porch for relaxing.

The house had everything we needed. The appliances are relatively new and everything worked well. The fridge even has water and ice in the door. Don't overpack as you can do a load of clothes in about 2 hours. There were plenty of supplies & linens, like TP, paper towels, trash bags, dish detergent, laundry detergent, towels, hand towels, and wash clothes. I even found the Windex to clean off all those bugs off my windshield. The AC units are window units (as listed in the property description) and kept us cool. It was probably the hottest week of the year the week we were there and the AC definitely worked overtime that week. There is one shower so it takes a while to get everyone through the shower. Overall a very good spot to stay and visit the area.

We were only there 1 night but really enjoyed our stay! We grilled out in the backyard and had a great time just visiting with family. The location was perfect for us, close to family and the golf course where our tournament was. And the host was excellent at communicating with us and responded quickly to messages sent. She also let us check in early, which was greatly appreciated! Highly recommend!

The house is older but has been remodeled and is in great shape. Window units in two bedrooms and living room did a pretty good job of cooling the place with temps around 90 degrees. A unit in the third bedroom would be a nice addition. All in all we would, and probably will, stay here again

We had a great stay. The house was great and our Two dogs loved the backyard to lounge in after hiking all day. The fence is a little low as advertised which wasn’t a problem for our dogs but if your dog is a jumper, could easily be hopped.
Tai was great and responsive. We had a minor issue with a beeping noise coming from the door lock (low battery) and Tai was very quick to respond and had it fixed in no time. Highly recommend.

This home was exactly as described and definitely did not disappoint!
My son had his own space, my girls had a room and we had the most comfortable bed i could have asked for. A/C in almost every room, 2 bathrooms was definitely a plus!
Cozy living room where my son and I played games and watched tv! Another tv in the master or more channels would have made this 100% perfect, you're not on vacation to watch tv right??
Kitchen was great, had everything but a can opener. Dishwasher, washer, dryer made this into a very easy vacation with everything we need in our own space.
My very favorite was the front porch and the hook game. 😊 Great, peaceful family moments!
My family felt so at home here and the owners were a dream as well! Quick, clear responses and right on top of it when we locked ourselves out. House in general was stocked, the owners had everything we needed right where we needed it.
Highly recommend and great first vrbo experience!

Felt let down by other reviews that were so positive. Poor first impression when we first pulled up. The exterior needs some love as the concrete is split & needs painting, the courtyard bricks are crumbling & there are a couple holes in the outside front of the house. The interior is remodeled in the public areas, bedrooms are small but manageable, both bathrooms would benefit from updating especially the one with the water heater sharing the space. Not at all comfortable with some windows not locking (as shared with Tai). The yard is huge which is a big plus if you have a dog but do keep on-leash. This review is difficult & not without careful thought as Tai was very responsive. Communication was great, location is convenient to sites southwest of Rapid City.

Nice home with all the amenities. The king size bed was amazing. The house was cozy and had a funky flair to it. We had a great time.

The owner was very communicative and accommodating. The home is older but it’s cute, clean and close to everything.

We had a very good stay for one night
Everything was great. We will use this place again when coming to Rapid City.

We had a five night stay at Tai’s new rental. The house is no longer white but was as the photos showed, very clean and cute. Tai even washed my linens in perfume and dye free detergent as that’s all I can use.
The beds were firm but beware, they’re low and you might hit your shins on the sides as I did. Park up close so you can easily get into and out of your car without hitting your head.
The kitchen and grill were fine and we enjoyed drinking the wines we bought at the nearby winery. So much to do! We enjoyed Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore, Deadwood, Crazy Horse Memorial, Bear Country, the Badlands, the 1880 Museum, etc, I left several brochures for future visitors.
Thanks for sharing the home, Tai!

My husband, our two toddlers and my parents rent the house for four days three nights. We were able to check in early and had no problems getting into the house. The house does have several different room that are a step down and narrow doorways, just so you are aware, but didn’t effect out stay. We enjoyed the fire pit every night of our stay. Easy check out. Great location close to Fairly Tale Island.

The check in process was very easy. The hosts were very friendly and the place was very clean. Very nice place to relax with family. Front porch was great and fire pit was a nice bonus.

We had reached out to the owner prior to booking due to a previous renter saying the fence height was short and my husband and I are dealing with some health issues and needed an appropriate height fence so we didn’t have to walk our large dog. The owner stated to me that “the fence is only 4 feet in some areas.” That to me means 4 feet is the lowest height, not the highest. I measured the fence height once there with an app on my phone and it said it was 35 inches high and our dog could look right over it. Only very small dogs that can’t jump could be contained in this fence. Bed was comfortable and so was the sofa for watching TV. We didn’t use the kitchen but it seemed to be well appointed.

We decided to take a trip sort of last minute. I had some questions prior to booking and the communication was great. Quick responses and the owner was kind enough to set the refrigerator to a particular degree (sons meds need refrigeration)prior to our arrival . This home met our needs and was centrally located to the things we wanted to see/do. We also brought our two dogs. I love that the back yard is fenced. A big plus when you have dogs. A note about the fence: it is quite a low fence. If you have bigger dogs or dogs that like to jump, this would not be ideal unless you kept them on a leash. Our dogs are small so it wasn’t an issue. Overall, very happy with our stay and would stay here again.
