The market town of Penrith is known locally as the ‘Gateway to the Lakes' but it is also the ‘Gateway to the Eden Valley' and has a number of boutique shops, bars and restaurants. Located just off the M6 makes it the perfect base from which to explore the whole of Cumbria, Lake Ullswater is a 15 minute drive with Ambleside and Windermere easily reached via Kirkstone Pass, or head along the A66 to Keswick or travel through St Johns in the Vale to Grasmere all less than a 45 minute drive. The A66 travelling east takes you through the Eden Valley, visit one of the many villages with local inns serving delicious meals, the valley also lends itself to those wishing to explore by bike on the flat, quieter country roads. Continue along the motorway to the county capital of Carlisle and enjoy a days retail therapy in the Lanes Shopping Centre, a meal in one of the many restaurants, a night out at the cinema or bars or explore the castle and cathedral.
